Doesn't really look cartoony to me. My question is how the different shoulder pads are explained? One of them shows up on his left, but the other isnt accounted for.. And the helmet on inventory doesnt match the one on his head.
id rather it be the old fashion diablo item backpack style, where each item took up a certain number of squares. It was a big part of the game just creating space for items lol. Oh well, it won't affect game play that much, i won't complain.
Nihilanth, I think that your questions are simply aesthetical in nature. At this point they said a lot of what they need to do is content and that includes making item pictures look like their physical manifestation in-game, or as close to it as possible. As for the shoulders, I know in WoW (ZOMG FLAME SHIELD!) some shoulder pieces would only feature one shoulder pad, a kind of stylistic effect to differentiate between the standard both shoulders. I think it's only a graphical thing. As for the "Energy", we now know that the aqua colour globe for Barbs is called "Fury"

Wow i didn't notice the helmet. that is interesting..
why is the armour.. so badly... well, i think it lack's AA, and even then it seems so badly textured anyway, nevermind the cartoony style >.>.
cartoony weapon avatars are cheaper. Who needs realistic armor anyway...
@OP: good info, nice pic

The thing that has always killed me about Diablo is the fact that they act like my character has only 1 finger on each hand. I would really like to see the ability to wear a combination of rings. Not that the 1 ring per hand ever stopped me from playing, I'm just saying.
I also really hope that they bring back some way to transmute/craft items. Though from this screenshot that looks like it may not be the case. Since you don't need a cube to fit larger items than what the current inventory holds (e.g. 1 item per slot)

The blind mind's eye replies with a sigh and a tear of contempt for those who see the world as it truly is.
Looks great...Not cartoony to me at all.And with the game in such early development things will change alot from now till release.Cant wait to play the dang game, its not going to come fast enough !!!

shoulders) one shoulders item covers both, even if both sides dont match its just a cosmetic thing
Helm) same gear will look different on every class, so as to keep them looking like their class and variety on cosmetic appearance from other classes.
above post on rings) usually one ring per hand is allowed because of...
A) game balance, we already have many items to equip, adding more would cause the player to get even stronger and item effects would have to overhauled for this increase in items worn (imagine diablo 2 with 4 rings, they'd have to tone down rings at least so it isnt too easy to stack resists or such)
usual excuse used is two magical rings on the same hand counteract each other and result in no effect, so you wear one for each hand. Don't think diablo has an "official" excuse but would likely be it.
I think there is going to be some resistance to the change from the grid inventory system but ultimately I think people are going to like it. The grid system is outdated and adds a lot of extra clicking to the game. I did like arranging my inventory but it isn't a deal breaker for me and I am convinced I will enjoy the change.
God forbid we click the mouse a couple of extra times to get something accomplshed more efficiently. Have people gotten so lazy that they don't want to "click a mouse too much?"
This NEW generation of gamers needs to be spoon fed..... its quite anoying.

I heard somewhere that The rings hold too much power for more than one to be on the same hand and so close to each other, or they would cancel each other out and not work. Don't ask for a source but it makes sense in a way.
I don't get where people think D3 has cartoony graphics. its certainly more colorful, but i think it looks damn good, not wow-ish at all.
And i will miss the inventory thing, i do like the bag ideas and such, but i miss arranging my inventory. I hope they bring back scrolls from Diablo I so a barb could start pelting you with fireballs etc. XD

This was a demo... they put this together as fats as possible to show you features of Diablo III, they probably could've cared less about matching the pictures up. They had better things to do, such as making Diablo III. Once the game comes out and is actually TANGIBLE and these errors (if they are errors) still exist, then we can speculate.

It's 3am. rain. thunder, lightning. silence. silence. thunder. wind, howling wind. pricks of sound the rain makes. slowly. as it trickles down your roof. behold the solemn nature. behold the beauty of the storm.

the helmet is like that because as they said (atleast i believe it is), all armor will have a unique look for characters....which i think is sort of bull crap but whatever...i think there are certain pieces of armor that should be class exclusive like in diablo2, which in turn still provides those chars with a different feel.
Let Blizzard innovate ffs, this isn't Diablo 2.5 with better graphics and a new story.
agreed. quit complaining and cool it people.
