I agree that it does need to be changed a BIT (darkened and bloody). That being said, don't you guys think that if the environment is constantly dreary, it takes away from the effect it has on the player? by this i mean, if you are in a sunny environment that isn't too hard and then you go into a demonic dungeon in the final act, you get that feel of omg this place is EVIL and it sticks out. its like using the f word lol.....if you use it all the time it looses its effect ;). i know that act 3 was FAR TOO DREARY, as to where it wasn't even close to fun.
Again, i do believe though that it should be slightly more evil looking.

I never really thought about that. Yeah, me least favorite part of D2 is act III. But I alway figured it was layout as much as anything else. I mean, Durance of hate just sucked to try to navigate. Plus I hated the Fetishes.
I mean, That seems to be the closest to a happy medium. You could do all sorts of crazy different things to try to fix it/change it, but sometimes the simplest is the best.
I'm not entirely sure the game needs to just be desaturated though. I think it mainly needs more polygons- you know...texture..less cartoon, comic-y feel.
Am I the only one who saw the barbarian up close and the word "Conan" slipped out of my mouth?
Right now, it looks like an isometric view of Age of Conan with some Guild Wars and WC3 thrown in! More texture. Don't be afraid of color, but don't forget that certain areas need a real transition, not just bright and sunny outside and dark in caverns. Too much of a juxtaposition.
And it seems to me that they're swearing off their roots from kinda dark, Celtic-inspired fantasy to more of a tribal thing, which I never really got from Diablo in spite of Kehjistan and Kurast and all that...
I must admit though, that nzkobc showed those images that i think are more like what id like to see. i am not going to dislike diablo 3 if they leave the visuals as is, but that look in those photos are closer to what id like as well.
I agree with you. I think the graphics are fine as is but sharpening things up and adding details would be nice. I am willing to just try the game with whatever graphics they release it with rather than decide from a short game play video that I am going to hate the game because of the graphics.
Even in D2 the graphics were the main thing that was criticized. No one cared though because the game play was awesome. It is ironic that people are now swearing they will hate the sequel they have been begging for because the graphics are wrong.
At this point, I think they'll have to work VERY hard to add the amount of detail Diablo2 had to environments. They were all about realism, and hand drawing may not work.

We have hardly seen any of the game so far, how the hell can people be bitching already ?
Im just so damn happy that it was announced...
Not ALL of D2 was evil ? there were lots of areas that were well lit and didnt have an evil feeling to them. I wish I could reach through my screen and punch some of you in the face !!

I think that's my favorite "How it should look" comparison I've seen so far. However, even on the top right side, the blocks that make up some of the walls (stone fences? I dunno what you call them) look a little too blocky and cartoony. The bottom right is perfect though

That is a good way to look at things, but my biggest problem is the brightness.

The characters, the terrain, the enemies.
Seriously, did you see the gameplay with the undead mages that if you don't kill quickly turn into demonic liches?
They look exactly like characters from WoW.
That is a good way to look at things, but my biggest problem is the brightness.
100% sure thing that they will add a brightness option in the Video tab of the option menu.
