Blizzard stated at WWI 08 that you will recieve your own individual loot drops on a BOSS. They did not confirm anything otherwise as far as all world loot drops....as far as I know.
I prefer loot to drop for each seperate player. As Mythos/Hellgate: London is. It works great. Those with more Magic Find (which I hope is in d3, btw) receive their rewards for wearing it without having to worry about others taking the items.
Plus... more items for everyone!
If not this... then the same as it has always been. FFA.
Rolling for loot is more of an MMO thing to do because of the nature of gameplay. In Diablo's fast paced style, rolling for loot would slow down the game and kill the reward. I think Blizz found a great substitute for what Diablo II's system was and I'm very happy with the change.
I think FFA loot was one of the defining things about the Diablo online experience.. If Blizzard is so worried about autoloot hacks then why not impliment a better detection/prevention system?
Either way, I voted FFA loot because thats what it means to be multiplayer/online.. if I wanted to be sure I got my loot without any "work" then I would just take the other players out of the equation, i.e. single player/online solo farming..
It's not like it's at all hard to kill mobs in the Diablo world anyways, so soloing for guaranteed loot is not a problem at all.. The only reason I can see for this new system is because of crybabies/people who are stupid and fall for scams.. which shouldn't be to much of a problem if they implement a TRADE SYSTEM
The problem with the FFA system was that a good half of team farming (think baal runs) was having people ninja-loot items and not contribute to the fighting at all. An individual loot system that Blizzard says they are implementing in D3 would allow the pace of the game to be uninterrupted until all the monsters on the screen are dead before worrying about looting. In games with this kind of system it is a lot less stressful and there is not nearly as much feuding between party members over loot. Individual is best.

Agree with Obalobex. They are trying to cut down on the frustration-level and cheesiness that pervades Diablo II to this day, where people with faster connections or better computers can take loot. Sure, you can solo most things, and even the devs have said you can solo the entire game but the true fun if cooperative play. And having individual loot means everyone is that much more enthusiastic to play as a team knowing that they cannot be cheated out of loot by someone who is quicker at looting or whatever the conditions may be. You're still getting your loot with this system and if MF plays a role in Diablo III, then your personal loot may be a lot better than someone else's depending on your level of MF.
Previous - Fun because you get to steal some godly item infront of the guy who did all the works eye's, or because you get to be jealous of the unique warhat that dropped someone else snagged. But in the end this leads to unhappy people...because everyone isn't fair. People will jack your shit!
Individual - Not as fun because you don't see what the other person got....So in prospect if they let you see it just not pick it up..somehow keeping organized..then this would be perfect in my mind
The system in D2 was the best. You could modify it so maybe u get the first chance to grab the item, but they shouldn't make the item exclusively for you thereafter. That is just horrible design. Beyond the fun of grabbing items first, there is also the element of scavenging. Say someone needs an item that you received from a drop, with the individual loot system he can't ever pick it up because that item now belongs only to you. Part of the thrill of D2 was the scavenging when you are haven't yet found good items. In D2, the items were up for grabs if no one else wanted them ( and sometimes when everyone else wanted them ). The individual loot system is also just a bit too "nice" for a game like Diablo. Would Diablo let only one person have certain items in his belly? No he would want you to fight over them. It's chaos, it's Diablo 3.
With all the niceties and colors and happy go lucky vibrance of Diablo 3, why even call it Diablo? Is this a trick!? Is this just another WoW expansion with a different name? Where's the evil?
Personally I always like the FFA loot style, it made item hunting and farming with others all the more fun and lent a "twitch" nature to the game. Granted this is from a purist perspective because I generally expect other players to be like myself and not use things like "pickit". This is a hopelessly optimistic view of things, but even when I got my Zod rune pillaged by a cheater I didn't feel too bad about it.
The game was deep, dark and ruthless and that's just how I liked it.
The old system is broken. Players in the front lines got all the good stuff. When I played with my friend as a zon when he was a barb he would always grab everything before I could get over there.
Now I can concentrate on fighting and worry less about people stealing the items that I worked for.
The only reason you people give for the old system is that you want to steal items from other people or have your items stolen from you. I really don't get how can support something with such a lame argument.

You could just trade/give the item to your party member. Or if you are smart just tell your ally you are looking for a good _____.

It's a hack-n-slash. Still going to be a lot of drops and scavenging. And it isn't about being nice, it's about being able to bear being in a party without wanting to rip their throats out for ninja looting everything.

Would Diablo let himself be slaughtered and soulstone ripped out twice? No he would want to be murdered at least a third time. (I hope you get my point).

D2 was fun because of competition. FFA loot was competition. End of subject.
If you believe otherwise it's because your a noob and a wuss.
Although I would not have put it so quaintly, this guy is right. Diablo II was fun because it was an extremely competitive atmosphere, not only in game mechanics, but in player base as well.
