Anyway, I really hope that EVERY skill should be EQUALLY valuable given the same points in different situations.
One thing I hated in D2 was the fact that some skills were worthless placeholders and made you wondered why the dev team wasted their time on it.
I think that every skill (even ones that you have access to first) should be equally beneficial to conquering evil in different ways. We need a bigger emphasis on class and specialty gameplay, so everything has a chance.

Opinions?
It seems that the skills will be equally beneficial since they've added the hotkey's it just seemed that they set up other skills up for failure because of the one click switch deal in D2.
Kinda like the Hellgate system then. Cant say I like that more than the D2 system. Atleast in D2 there were good and bad skills. With a system where every skill gets "equal time" you'd end up with a large amount of mediocre skills to avoid creating overpowered classes.
I agree, although i don't think that the beginning skills should do as much damage. Say Bash in D2 shouldn't do near the damage as beserk, but you would have the ability to stun your enemy, while in D3s case the bersek would just be about damage. This way people can always find use for the skills which from what they have told us is a big focus for them.
Hmm I see what you guys are saying, but then I think that the ultimate skills badass should be in a class of their own (kind of like WC3's system). Any opinion on that?
if everything was exactly equally valuable then using the first tier skills would be better because they come much earlyer. they should set it up similar to guildwars where as there are plenty of combinations for strategies (i dont mean it being exactly like guildwars). There will be cookie cutter builds, there always is. Just make it so theres plenty so not every sorc is casting fireball or orb and not ever barbarian is doing whirlwind.

What do you think about WC3 skill/spell system? I know it's simplified but imagine porting it over to D3 x 8
I think that much like WoW had to retune much of its talent trees to get rid of "useless talents", Diablo 3 should do the same. There should never be a skill that you simply don't use because others do more damage or for the same mana have a better effect. Each skill should have at least some use in different situations.

Half the reason diablo 2 was so awesome was because certain builds pwn'd other builds. If you eliminate that you eliminate half of why 95% of the community wants a new diablo.
Well not everyone liked PVP. Lots of people liked to COOP and go against the minions of hell with a band of buddies with decent gear. Me and my friends also played hardcore with decent items (we didnt care about items) and prayed that we didn't die. It was so scary and intense.
This is why a lot of people want every skills that can add benefit to a PVM fight in different ways.
If you even fucking played either diablo 1 or diablo 2 you'd realize how retarded your statement was.
The hardcore, battlenet veterans are the SOLE reason that diablo 2 still pulls in numbers like it still does, let alone a majority of the potential diablo3 buyer base.
You liked to kill absolutely mindless, un-challenging sprites that walked circles in place until you attacked them?
You are the kind of person that gets hard to mow their lawn.
I think that there should always be a skill/spell hierarchy.
I mean that there should be versatility in skills and spell combos, but there should also be ranking for each one. I.E. of course some will be better than others. Specifically lower end tier skills should be higher up on the hierarchy because they are simply better. Without this kind of mechanic it lowers the value of having a diverse range of options to choose from. Synergies which were introduced in patch 1.10 for DII were a particularly awesome addition to the game. They helped players focus on power housing their ultimate spells while still investing points in tertiary skills which still played a role in the character depending on the build.

Calm down tough guy...
Diablo 3 should cater to all kinds of players, not just PVP. If you didn't like the monsters, then you'd probably be happy with a Diablo 3 fighting game for playstation.
Lots of hardcore players, including myself and lots of friends liked to just get thrown into a crazy situation (the diablo world) and try our best to survive. It was the COOP dream. It was fun and intense to really have to work together to not die.

No
They completely pigeon holed you into being "the fire sorc" or "the lightning sorc"
There were great hybrid builds back in the day, like orb/TS or orb/Hydra or the infamous monster murdering Nova build sorc with fire spells to kill lightning immune mobs.
The way the game is configured now you MUST get all the lightning synergies to be useful, and many many many of the spells that used to be effective for sorceress (Hydra, Nova, Orb, Chain Lightning, etc) are almost completely useless.
Every patch in Diablo 2 has brought it down a peg, the runeword additions in 1.10 were nice even though they should have made droprates a bit higher and tried to combat duping.
Forcing the entire tree to work around a single spell like "Blizzard" or "Lightning" completely detracts from being a cold sorceress.
Cold should not = Blizzard, it should = any combination of spells you wish to mash together into your playstyle.

+ That's right dude. We want to actually use different skills, not be FORCED into one or two forever..
I still prefer the tree, but in order to make the lower skills viable in the end game they need to have some sort of utility.
Example:
Why use charged bold when nova is better?
Have charge bolt do some extra DOT or give a knockback ability. Not that its balanced with that example, just trying to prove my point. Also with a skill tree system you would NEED to see the synergies make a come back.
