I'd like both. Globes to keep me going and potions to save me. Add some sort of dynamic to potions. Make them a valuable resource or limit how many you can carry so you save it for big monsters/bosses maybe?
ROFL OK so health globes are like so unrealistic!!! but health potions are everyday stuff... LOL
Yes because when you are ill, passing over health globes hanging in the air and which defy the law of physics are realistic
When you are ill or injured, you drink potions/ medecines in the real world, that's why health potions are more realistic than health globes hanging mid-air.
Hopefully each character gets assigned his own but I know what you mean, it seems like it would make the game uber easy as compared to the potion regeneration idea. Maybe the game is hard enough that we will need these orbs. I really don't like this idea but maybe they are using it so that it will make soloing a boss much much harder considering these won't drop then. And this will help with PvP, which I'm completely all for.
At first I liked the idea of adding hp globes to pots, but on second thought, I don't like it. I think it'd be better if you could only carry pot on your belt (not in your inventory), and you can only buy pot in town, and that there'd be no health regeneration in the game at all (stats should just increase hp and items increase hp or life steal), and hp shrines instead of hp globes. Why? Because this would make it more intense. You have to try to survive, using the fewest potions as possible, until you get to the next shrine, or the next waypoint - and sometimes you won't make it. With hp pots allowed in the inventory, it'd be just about spamming pot, like in D2. With hp globes, it'd be just about killing more monsters - which is a definite improvement, but I think it could be better.

Ranger - Ranged Weapon Mastery (fire a bow or javelins like a machine gun!), Traps (MK style!), Pets (lions, tigers, and bears oh my!) - physical damage based
Demonologist - Bone Spells (Necro style!), Avatar (shapeshift into a demon!), Furies (evil spirits that hang around you, giving party bonuses) - mix of physical damage and magic
LEAP ATTACK!!!!! PLAGUE OF TOADS!!!!!
SLOW TIME!!!!!
mana globes would be very awesome for casters cuz they cant mana steal.
Who says you can't have mana steal?

what you guys dont notice is the fact that globes/orbs drop (float actually) once you kill a monster.. so you can get bosses off the list since you usually fight them when they're alone, look at how he fought the Thousand Pounder boss.. he evaded him as much as possible.. notice that the globes/orbs regenerate your health.. they dont instantly heal you.. and besides, I hope this game will be different than D2 in the aspect of HP.. in D2 each hit would take 1/4 to 1/2 of your hp instantly.. I hope here the fights wouldnt be like that..

Good, it makes it look even more like Devil May Cry while still staying a RPG. Can't wait to pwn Diablo.
In the gameplay trailer the mana regen was REALLY fast, and the barb had normal items on, execpt for the hammer, so I'm going to assume that the witch doctor did too, so that should be around the default mana regen...
I'm pro globes. Managing potions wasn't really important to the gameplay, so anything that streamlines without fucking up the balance is an improvement.

I'm guessing that they had some of that stuff tweaked just for the demo. I mean, they wanted to show off as much of the skills that they could, so mana regen. seems like the right idea.

could be that, but i also noticed a slightly different color on the barbarians mana. The witch doctors was deeper blue. Different classes might have different regen rates too.

Some people have taken screenshots of the skills the Barb uses, and they seem to use 'Stamina' instead of 'Mana'.
But as to regen, if you remember/saw the SC2 Protoss Mothership demo, they pumped up the energy of the ship for that demo just to be able to show off all its abilities, and was not indicative of the real power the ship will have.
and there still are pots in the game -temp-

Maybe the whole orb system could replace the sanctuaries while expanding beyond it.
