Please someone tell me I'm not the only one so happy with the announcement of D3, that they're not stressing about something that, to me, appears to be a fantastic and natural progression to the game/series.
From what I've seen thus far the concept and work done, to me, are amazing.
Now, I understand changes could, and in all probability will be made, but seriously, some people seem to be suggesting virtually black and white?! We live in a colour age, and being able to incorporate that into a dark game can't be easy. I love the graphics, and the magic effects are just that, magic. Colour should be there and in spades I believe. I was even going to FINALLY upgrade my PC, so that I could bask in all it's glory. Now, I'm going to hold off because, if the naysayers in the community get ther way, it won't be worth it.
Personally I think they've done a fantastic job, and if I could lash out right now and buy it, I'd do so. With some of the suggestions being made, I wouldn't even bother. A sad day for someone who bought the first Diablo on release day, like many of us here I'm sure.
So Blizz, please, make changes if you must to allay the masses, but puhlease, don't turn it black and white, or drain it of colour. I'm begging you!
Ethereal
*whispers* ...ship me a copy as it stands right now. No one will know. It'll be our little secret! *
ummm the color of the game isn't going to make any difference on system specs... I personally want the game darker, but at the same time want the GFX to IMPROVE. My computer that I built 2 years ago seems like it would be overkill for D3... Doesn't mean I won't buy D3, I just want better optimal graphic options for high-end users, while maintaining the low min reqs for low end users.
It's a figurative representation of Diablo's fanbase.
No, it's not. If I were to change it to 1000, you cannot predict what the percentage would be. It's quite possible the only people who bothered to respond were the "ignorants", leaving the other 946 who would vote otherwise. I'm not saying this is what would happen, but it's not out of the question. Your assumption that the majority shares the same opinion as a select few on a forum only further proves your ignorance.
To your other assumption, yes the 'mood' could change drastically from environment to environment. Have you personally seen all of Sanctuary? Is it not possible that some areas of the world are vibrant, whereas others are dark? Yes, it is possible and it's even happened in Diablo 2. The "small portion" was referring to one small piece of a dungeon and an outdoor scene. The environments they've designed are a lot more interesting than the previous Diablo games'. Act 1 was mundane, boring, bland. The new environment gives a change of scenery and is very appealing to the eyes.
There has been 20 years of peace lore-wise. There's no reason for all of Sanctuary to be covered in blood and darkness. It's only recently that the demons have made their return. It's pretty easy to infer that parts of Sanctuary will still be uncorrupted, whereas other parts will be defiled and sprawling with demons.
Stop trying to argue with me kid, you make a fool of yourself. This is not Diablo II, the scenery will be different. Get the fuck over it boy.
Edit: If you REALLY want to sound intelligent, pay attention to the "Diablo Lore and Environment Art" panel this morning. Until then, stop poisoning these forums with your ignorance.
Its been expected for many years, you have to expect a GREAT transition from Diablo 2 to Diablo 3, just look at the game logo. And plus Starcraft 2 looks way brighter than Diablo 3, check out the Archon if you have the chance
I'd like to point out that none of the people who have been waiting here for years are complaining.
Agreed. We are all just completely thrilled that we are finally being given what we have all dreamed of.
The graphics, to me, look perfect. That game play video looks exactly how it should, it looks like Act 1. The thing that makes the game look perfect for me is the stark contrast between the above ground, and the underground. Besides, I am sure that each area will have different color palettes. A greener hue for a forest, a greyer hue for dungeons, a bluer/whiter hue for Heaven, and a redder hue for Hell.
It was actually a really cool day for me. I woke up this morning and checked blizzard and saw the announcement. I freaked. I then spent about an hour watching the cinematic and gameplay video. And when I went outside, it was actually dark and foggy. Fog in Orange, CA in the middle of summer!!! What a perfectly Hellish day to announce DIII.

LOL
That's like saying mathematical statistics is wrong no matter what the size of the population is.
Furthermore, your assumption argues that, for example, a country can not elect a president because not everyone will vote. Of course. ROFL

A sample of a ~100 people (yesterday in that poll) is a SIGNIFICANT sample considering this forum has ~30,000 users.
If you take a look at the poll again (roughly 200 people voted), the percentages haven't changed much.
If you ever looked at any population-wide study (such as a study of women in the U.S., roughly 160 million people), the numbers usually don't exceed a 1,000 participants and are considered to be a representation of a whole population.
So please, don't call me ignorant because you are really making yourself look foolish.

We are all talking about the art style, which according to most people should be changed to a darker, more Diablo-ish one. The reflected "mood" is an outcome of the style (cartoon-ish being considered cute and adorable).

Realism is not what Diablo is striving for.
What needs to be shown is a world that is being overrun by evil and violence. Cute and adorable STYLE has no place in such a game.

Yes, let's throw pancakes at each other. Definitely shows how mature you are.
