They were showing off the game and going slow.... Go look at the boss fight of the huge monster at the end and tell me the battle isnt as fast. Dont look at the character on the screen, but the people in the party.
I have some worries about D3. This game is just so important to me i can't ignore this right now and move forward.
First of all the happy wow-ish, wc3-ish looking world, happy forest with cute squarish trees, grass and everything. It is just wrong on so many levels. But more than anything, that is shoking to me is decline in pace and ingame speed. I was expecting D3 to be slower after what happened for example to starcraft in warcraft 3, what happened to quake 3 in doom 3 and quake 4. Nowadays prettier graphics - slower gameplay, and problem is never in hardware, but in games.
If you guys didn't play Diablo 2 for a while, for years maybe, you may forget how mindblowingly fast it was, i was a very devoted D2 player and yet after a 2 years break, when i installed D2 again i was shoked by how insane speed and pace in this game is compared to all the newer games both on PC and consoles, and that is why D2 was so good. Now in D3 i see just another game that has nothing besides looks and sound effects.
Please, guys, if you have some footage of powered up D3 character in good boots, faster run stuff, teleports in action, please post the link in this thread. I hate to be negative about anything, especially about something i really care about... Does anyone else have the same feelings? Did the Blizzard ever comment on this matter?
Umm did you watch the final battle? It was intense and awesome. The camera was shaking and you felt scared. It was EPIC!
So what, things aren't stupidly fast and spazzy, big deal, now we have IMMENSE impact physics and great animations.
It's a little early to be gauging the real pace of the game. The stuff in the gameplay video had to be a certain speed to make narration possible. I like the look of it, actually, looks like a good blend of slaughter and strategy.
Exactly. I'm happy that blizzard is adding some tactics to take out enemies instead of mindless spamming. I can't wait to play hardcore!
Well the Witch Doctor is after all WC3 related (Orc Unit)
Well... This game is still in development afterall. Nothing is final in that version. I expect the Witch Doctor to be changed much more.
The level we saw is probably only a small portion of the D3 world anyways.
Take a look at the graphics of D3. They aren't ALL that great. Sure they are good, but not the greatest. I'm assuming that the graphics are this way simply because Blizzard is going to deliver a lag-free game. Look at WoW graphics, and I barely have an issue with lag there.. these graphics go along the same general guidelines as D2, simply a little more 3d. As of right now, with what I seen.. Lag will not be an issue unless someone finds an exploit duping.. and causes mass lag to the server.
I think the graphics will improve. However, I think blizzard is focusing on combat, physics, animations, and the feel of the game--which, IMO, is mindblowing.
Sorry if this has already been brought up, but the spinning speed of WW seems a lot slower, doesn't it? Just doesn't seem quite as powerful as it was imo.
Yeah and it looks better. WW of D2 looked goofy and stupid like the tazmanian devil. Now you can actually see the barb twirling and sending his axes into the faces of zombies.
You know ACTION in ActionRPG usually indicates that the game is fast paced. English isn't my native language but I took the liberty of looking up the definition of action.
"the series of events that form a plot; the trait of being active and energetic and forceful"
I don't know about you guys but words like energetic and forceful do indicate some fast pace.
And someone claiming that Diablo 3 has wowish graphics probably didn't
A: Watch the actual video and instead got stuck with some Leeroy video on Youtube.
or
B: Is simply retarded and don't know better.
Yeah but the action in D3 isn't slow at all. It's fast and earth shattering. It's just not benny hill fast.
lol yess! I remember playing hardcore with buddies against diablo and our paladin was trapped in a corner. We tried fighting diablo off but we got scared and we abandoned him LOL. We all ran for our lives!
This Is For Doryah I Agree With What You Posted On 6-28-08 However The Slower Gamplay Will Just Increase Time Consumption The Other Fast Paced Diablo And D2 Where Incrediably Easy To LvL I Was Able To Get To 90 In One Day And I Am Sure There Were Those That Could Get To 99 Now If Blizzard Could Make This A Mass Multi-Player Then That Could Increase Game PLay With Easy Groups To LvL Faster But Not As Easy As D1 And D2 In This Post Mostly Refering To D2 Because That Is The One I Remember Best I Could Also Defeer Players From Only Being Able To Play With Only 7players And That Is If That Many Joined In My Opionion Harder Bosses And Mass Multi-Player For Groups As Well As Excitment Could Really Make This Game Great Because After Stopping Playing D2 And Playing Newer Blizzard Games For Example WOW Battle.net jus seems Out Dated After Seeing The Progression To Mass Multi-Player The Free Battle.Net As Oppesed to $15 on my Credit Card A month Is really Nice And Convenient But I Would Rather Pay The Monthly Fees That Is If There Is None On Battle.Net As Is Because I jus Remember The Old One With NO Monthly Fees But With This New 3D IDK But As I Was Saying I Would Rather Pay 15 Dollars A Month And Have A Way More Excitting New Diablo III Because If Battle.Net Is The Same As It Was Before It Will Prolly Detur Me From Purchasing The Game Which Would Be UnFortunate Because Diablo And Diablo II Are My Two Favorite RPG'S Of All Time And I Really Jus Want This One To Be As Good And Kept Up To Snuff With The New Blizzard Games Because I Myself Know What The Blizzard Crew Is Capable Of Thanks
Well that is my point. Thread starter complained that the pace of the game seemed similiar to Diablo 2(meaning to fast) and I tried to explain the meaning of the word action.
Smash And Thrash Games Also Need To Be A Somewhat Fast Pace Or They Will Get Really Boring Like Guild Wars Way To Slow And WAY TO BORING So Screw It As I Said Before Making It A Mass Multi-Player Will Keep It Right At A Steady Pace With Harder Bosses And Quests/Mobs But At the Same Time Easier To Get A Group Than The Way The Old Bnet Was Set Up With Only Up to 7 Other Players Allowed And You Ocasionally Got That One Jerk Who Would Join A Baal Run At a LVL 5 OR LOWER IF YOU FORGOT TO PUT LVL RESTRICTIONS ON And Then You Would Have To Set Up A Whole New Game With A New Name And Hope The People You Told In The Previous Try Joined That Is Jus One Small Downside To Old Bnet not even a major issue But I Got Many Reasons For Liking The New RPG'S With Mass Multi-Player Than The Old Bnet So Yes I Say Keep It At A Fast Pace But Slow It Down From D2 And Make It More Of a challenge And Allowing Easier PVP Will Also Attract New Players That Nevered Played The Origional Diablo's And The More Players The Better The Game Gets So For People Discovering Blizzard With The Hit Game WOW will Be More Inclined To Check It Out I think For A Older Blizzard Fan Who Loves The Old School Blizzard Games But Also Enjoys The Newer Ones I Jus Think That If You Take Old School And Combine It With New School Internet Options And Better Online Gameplay Than Before It Could Be The Best Thing to Happen To The PC RPG Playing World Ever
THREE: If you look closely on the modified picture, the author has added tiny subtle blood splatters on the floor and on the enemies, with the sharpened image this helps the atmosphere of the game seem more dark and gritty and evil. Not becuase its any "darker" per se (which it isnt actually, its the same brightness).
Problem : You can't sharpen up the texture without increasing the size, because the texture get stretched out, and blurred when put on a surface.
Solution : Filter effects. Tons of games use them now, just add a bit of film grain, and some color saturation compression.

As for the graphics it certainly was eye candy specially when they interacted with the NPC characters like Cain and the other guy. CANT WAIT!!!!
TOO GOOD!
Just wait till you play it, I think you will not sleep for a day!

Get over it.

Yea and the D2 paladin was WC2 related...

+1 yes I agree. People need to take a breath.
