There are a few factors that could theoretically help us predict what the new classes might be.
1. Old or New: They said that they'd have new classes like the witch doctor and old classes reimagined like the barbarian. That leads me to believe there will be at least one more new class and at least one more old class, leaving one variable. Now honestly I hope we have 3 new and two old, but it could easily go the other way.
2. Culture: Just as in Diablo 2 each class seems to have a culture and possibly a religion behind it. Most likely we'll see some variety in that. Thus, we have a northern barbarian society and we have a jungle/tribal/voodoo society. Some cultures that could be represented are: Medieval european based, desert, and asiatic based.
3:Power: Further distinctions come in what sort of powers they wield, weather it be martial prowess, power over the dead, the blessings of light, elemental fury, a connection with nature, or pacts with the masters of hell, or any mixture of they above. 4. Role: We already have a rough and tough brawler in the barbarian, and a support caster/pet master with the Witch Doctor. Other roles include spell slinger who throse around magical damage (read sorceress type), an agility based character, and/or a hybrid. The role of Healer could be included, but I'm wondering if a witch doctor wouldn't have that, not to mention, it's only for group situations, and we'd want a class viable for solo work as well.
Bearing this in mind, here are some options:
Spell Slinger: There's always the socerer/soceress, which would be bringing back an old class with a possible cultural background of either desert or Europeanesque. Another idea would be a Cleric (although I hate the name, so priest or mystic might be cooler), a holy powerd casterwith similar cultural options. I wouldn't say shaman, just cause a shaman is to close culturaly to a which doctor in my mind.
Agility: We could always go with the old Rogue or Assasin, although it would have to be different from the rogue of D1, as that was a sexually exclusive sisterhood, and this game seems to be in favor of integration. My idea of a new class for it would be a professional demon hunter, most often seen witih a crossbow. Think along the lines of the movie Van Helsing. . culturally they would definitely be European based. We could also have a monk, which could be strictly about martial arts or indeed have the light backing, probably with the asiatic background.
Hybrid: The paladin from D2 was an excellent example of a hybrid. Others would include the Demon Hunter or the monk mentioned above given some sort of holy backing. There are a ton of possibilites with Hybrids though.
The thing though about "Demon Hunter" If you recall in the new storyline people treated the events from 20 years ago like they never happened. So its kinda hard to put the class demon hunter in there. Monk is a possibility but I'm not 100% on all the types of warriors in Sanctuary.
I would honestly like to see a class something like a samurai in place of a paladin...
And I would like to see a class that can specialize in a scythe.
Im kinda disappointed with the witchdoc though... I dont think it holds a candle to the nec
Don't forget, the Diablo 3 expansion will bring on 2 more classes if you don't like the 5 in D3 classic.
The remaining 3 classes will have some form of a mage and a rogue.
I'm praying to god that they have redesigned the necromancer and it will also be included in the game. If not, the last class will be the paladin.
In the "rogue" category, we could definitely see the Druid brought back to fill this role. Check out the art trailer on the D3 website and you will see a concept drawing for a Druid.
They could also bring in a Monk and this would cover the "rogue" as well as remove the need for a paladin.
I personaly believe that there has to be some kind of healer to make use of in "Co-op", a paladin (Personaly for me) would be a welcome return as i enjoyed playing with him last time.
That said a paladin may be knocked out in place of a priest? but you never know.:)
There will be no healer class. This is a action RPG, besides the healing system thus far confirms this.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Druid/Archer combo. Like a Ranger.

Good point on the whole forgetting thing. I just thought the Van Helsing Archetype would fit nicely. The only way they'd make it in is if they were some sort of top secret group.
Now on the Monk, I can bring up on thing: after spending some time studying the current map of sanctuary, it seems that Blizzard is toing a good job with giving places culture specific names. For instance, the Islands where the Amazons are from have some very Greek sounding names (such as Philios), or the desert areas have names like Aranoch or Kehjistan, which have a middle eastern ring to them. If you are wondering where I'm going with this, to the north you will see an Island called Xiansai. I don't know about you, but to me that screams Oriental, which brings to my mind Monks. However, it could also mean Ninjas or Samurai.
I fail to understand what what all the complaining about no necromancer is. The witch doctor is clearly the new necro. Biggest example would probably be his demon summons and his wall of zombies (similar to the necros bone wall just cooler and probably more useful). Blizzard clearly said they are redesigning all the classes skills. So even if you saw the old looking necro he would have his skills redone either way. On top of that we have only seen 5 skills. Those of you saying he doesnt look evil enough, im pritty sure he looks a lot more interesting then the diablo 2 version. All he was an old man with gray hair.
personally i would PREFER a necro just because i enjoyed playing as one so much. however the few WD skills they showed gave me high hopes for the class as a whole so i'll try to reserve judgement until the rest of the skills are released. although firebomb seems a tad out of place to me ::shrug::
I thought the witch doctor was awesome when I first saw it, especially with the locust swarm and everything, and being able to empower creatures with it.
