I have just had an epiphany. People in D2 are addicted to runes. They start games just to trade runes to make a crafted item. I have always thought that that detracts from the game; everyone's beating each other up over runes.
What do you think of runes in D3? Should they be the center of attention? Should crafted items be so uber, they create god-like characters?

What is normal? Normal is a concept that everyone or a majority of people are the same or similar. However, we know that everyone is unique. If everyone is unique, then everyone is different. If everyone is different, then everyone is weird. If everyone is weird, then everyone is normal.
High rune drop chances are way way way way too low in D2
Runes should be in D3 BUT their drop rates should be drastically highered
Fuck sake..... you play a game for years and you never see a rune drop thats higher than ist
But every second dickhead has an enigma (or hoto, botd, fort, beast, cta, coh, infinity, lw, pride.. so on)
If everyone on Battle.net played legit then actually seeing one of those items would be near impossible (the way its supposed to be)
I think they should keep them, but like he said, they need to drop very rarely and moderation of dupes needs to be increased dramatically to keep the same thing from happening again.
See, I don't see the difference between making games to trade runes, and making games to trade gold, know what I mean? Runes are just the equivalent of game gold in Diablo. I don't really see a problem with that. It's just that I don't understand how everyone and their brother's uncle has an enigma/cta/hoto and the like. It baffles me. The rune drops should be decreased dramatically.
Indeed. That is why Diablo 2, in a way, sucks. *Waits for the flaming to end.* Finished? Ok. Anyway, Diablo 2's built in such a way that a casual player isn't capable of finding such items. In fact, it's tilted twards those that hack, as when those that hack are banned, they pick from hundreds of other keys to load into there hacking programs to get more runes and whatnot, while you can get banned for no real reason. Shit, I got banned once for a month for logging out and logging back in too fast, my friend got banned for 6 months for logging out and logging back in. The way Blizzard has it set up is just complete and utter idiocy, favoring hackers to legitimate players.
The game is too dependent on items - I personally hate this. Why don't we just throw out the skills along the way if only items matter. And, the items it is dependent upon are impossible to find for a player who doesn't play much. Also, 15 level guys can wear godly items... wtf?
Runes are way more powerful than gems are, I think that's a pretty serious and strange disbalance there.

Now, get the flames over with.
I actually agree with that in a way. I don't think it's actually the game that sucks, though, just the item system, since it was thrown out of whack by the introduction of godly runewords that everyone "needs" to have, and hence everyone dupes runes and the like. It really just comes down to the fact that dupe moderation is terrible, hacking moderation is terrible, etc- all Battle.net-related problems. The game itself, played in single player or on a LAN connection with friends without hacking, is much better.
The actual game-play elements, like the whole point distribution system and the fighting style (which they have as hack n' slash), were actually dumbed-down from real DnD rules and such, to appeal to a casual gamer. The problems you portrayed, Link, were all server-based, I think. Dunno, just my two cents. Don't mean any of that as a flame, if you might take it that way.

I think the main reason for this is simply because you can't string together gems and get better results, only runes do that. But yeah, "indestructibility" and "unable to be frozen" attributes on runes are kind of over-powered. But, again, in single player those types of runes are nearly impossible to find, at least for me, which levels it out a bit.
lol i remember when i got an ist rune. It was intense!!, hell cow game, and i died, running back to my body and the cows i killed when i died dropped a ist rune. I was so scared when i seen it on the floor and clicked it as fast as possible. BUT the highest rune drop i ever got was jah. It was at act 5 the first waypoint, bout to kill shenk, and 1 of those other monsters died, and i almost skipped it until my bro came shouting beside me..JAH RUNE>>>
If you get the hellforge hammer you can use it at level one and do a shit load of damange. That weapon is good enough to last a good 8 or 9 levels.
First of all, that hammer is crap, I tried it. It doesn't do "shit load of damage". It does as much as damage as the average socketed item I can make for myself at those levels... Besides, it's not like the first 8 or 9 levels are worth bothering.
I am talking about a 15 level paladin that can deal tons of damage due to items. Like 5k-15k damage I am speaking here. Why is that permitted? Most items I see have level restrictions. What happened to the items that paladin was wearing?

I think that was largely the point. Though I must say, the runewords that were made in the patches were insanely overpowered. The majority of the original rune words are a joke compared to BOTD, even if they have the same number of runes.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
In my opinion the rune system, even with its overpowered runewords, is a good system on paper. However, when you introduce duping and other forms of cheating that all those bad people do out there, even the rarest and most overpowered items become the norm. If Blizzard were to eliminate or even reduce duping to the levels of most MMORPGs, I think the rune system would be just fine in DiabloIII. Unfortunately that would probably require monthly fees and I know a lot of people would be upset about that. I, on the other hand, would welcome it.

Yeah, I completely agree. Especially the Aldur set. Why does the Druid's best set have to suck so terribly?

What items would those be? The only good low level items I can think of atm are Sigons
Made the game ridiculous...
