Let's assume for lack of flaming that Diablo 3 follows suit like D2 in terms of genre and play style. What modifications to the formula should be made? Personally, I thought it was kind of dull how it lacked plot depth. I mean, the story was powerful and everything, but it was too linear for my tastes. Not only that, but the towns really lack interactivity and there is almost nothing to spend money on after a while.

Well, all of this would be hard to program in 2000. I think. And yay, muttons is back!

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
Yeah, I didn't quite understand how a bunch of powerful items couldn't outweigh one item.
But does anyone want to see a branching plot rather than a linear plot? I definitely can agree with more acts and such, but what about quests that lead to other quests that broaden your comprehension of the goings-on of the game.

So, do you mean side quests? Or multiple stories at the same time? Or multiple choices you can take to have different stories? Either way I agree. An expanded storyline is always great.
if they could somehow get rid of duping that would be great.... also have a really long story, and only 2 diffs normal and hell. the beginning of d2 seemed so slow, and boring. i dont know how i stuck with it, they need to make it more exciting

As long as it doesn't drain the game of other things. E.g., I don't know more places at the expense of making them even more repetitive than they are already are. But if they can do it, I am all for it.
- Darker, more evil
- Make the music more evil
- More frightening monsters
- Slow the pace down to about 50% of Diablo II's, but make it harder
- Make mana regeneration for melee characters 0
- Create new death animations
Yeah, Diablo 1 had a better atomosphere overall, more creepy and unnerving. I'd like Diablo III to be a bit darker and scarier to reflect its roots, although it is invariably going to be less scary going from underground the whole game to having certain outdoor portions.
i used to think that diablo 1 scared me cuz i was young..i went back to play it about 5 years later and it was STILL scary as shit haha. i love it. but ya now that i think about it...the story WAS a bit linear. like overall the lore is fantastic, but u have to go to the books to get it ya know? u get a lil bit of it in d2 but not enough. and ya the game needs to be longer..like on the real..once u read the books it makes doin mephy and baal seem unfair to the gamers, like.. those guys are leet lol. and theres tooonnnss of baal games wer alll these humans run in and kill BAAL LORD OF DESTRUCTION in like wat?15 seconds max? it shud just have better climax, which leads to more small quests and more mini bosses to lead up to the BIG primes. like..sry for the wow reference. but i ORIGINALLY played wc3, so i follwed its lore and read the books..illidan was freakin BEAST MODE in them. and they made that perfectly clear wen they put him in wow. like wat? 3 or 4 guilds per faction ACTUALLY run black temple and kill illidan. its as epic as its supposed to be. im not saying make d3 an mmo but at least make it more epic ya know?

i would like to see like maybe all the major towns in diablo be playable. so for instance you could still be following the evil. but you always are one step behind. then the last act you would fight the diablo or all the brothers or something. and yes. more branching then linear. but not to much branching where you are confused and dont know what to do. (ive heard some of this in wow) and i think it would be cool if you had to do multiple things in 1 quest. like some old crappy guy. says "oh you want to know where to find the evil, well first you have to do these errands for me. then ill tell you" or something like that.
dont slow down the speed of the game! the reason why d2 and d1 are a big success is because they are both "arcadeish" in a way... really simple and fast moving. i hope they dont break this trend.
if you look at other old games like unreal tournament, the best one is the first and second one that were just pure simple and fast. As soon as they start complicating the game with graphics and especially realism, they mess things up and the game becomes slooow and not good for multiplayer .... like "crysis"
same thing happened to quake 4 coming from q1 , 2 and 3, doom 1 +2 getting messed up with doom 3 , cs 1.6 with css etc etc.
i think they should do to diablo 3 what they did to starcraft 2.. remake the same game on a better engine to make it more creepy, put in some more items , quests and other little things and it will be fine..
Diablo 1 was far slower paced than Diablo II. I think even the factor of you moving slowly through the labyrinth added a different kind of evil feature to the game.
I'll probably get attacked for this, but... Perhaps just going around the world, with a dungeon in each town you need to go to that has the demon boss at the bottom, like multiple games of D1? And the quests could be like D1 where you have to find cryptic tomes and ask the townspeople what it could mean, then search the dungeon for what to do, that way every quest aside from "Kill the great demon" per act would be optional aside from maybe a quest required to open certain blocked paths you have to go through. Perhaps each set of levels per dungeon has its own mini boss on the way to the big one?
I'd like being able to respecialize your skills way late in the game and choose a new set though I wouldn't actually want it in there unless you had to do some kind of fantastically hard quest that puts the pandemonium event to shame, then have to find a randomized recipe which involves 1 item you get from it for the cube(I hope the cube is still in!) to do it, because part of the challenge is picking the right skills along the way without wasting any points.
As for skills, I'd like the same kind of system as D2, I think they got the skill system right there.

I'd also like to see set items be more powerful, rather than uniques dominating so powerfully.
And I think the ability to "dye" armor would be cool.

2) better monsters
3) skill tree redo
4) better char sound
5) graphics on some of the skills/spells
thats all i could think of
