Auriel
Female. Robes of soft blue. Her nature is sympathetic, and she defends the existence of Sanctuary.
Imperius
Male. Robes of royal red with a shining breastplate upon which the image of an upturned sword blazes. His nature is fierce, and he thinks that Sanctuary should be destroyed.
Ithrael
Gray-clad angel, neither male nor female in aspect.
Malthael
Male. Gaunt figure whose robes and breastplate are black. Likely to be the Archangel of Death.
Tyrael
Male. Likes to directly get involved with the affairs of Sanctuary, even against the wishes of the Council.
It was these five Archangels that decided the fate of Sanctuary. Their original plan was to destroy it, however they were forced to take a vote due to extended circumstances. The result was in favour of letting Sanctuary live on! It was Tyrael who had the final and most impacting vote which saved Sanctuary from imminent destruction.
The Council made a pact with the oldest of the Prime Evils, Mephisto, that he would leave Sanctuary untouched in exchange for the traitor Inarius (who created Sanctuary). Sanctuary was then left in the hands of the humans, with thier memories wiped, allowing them to grow from the beginning. Each individual is left to decide either to live by the light or the dark.

Well it's nice and informative and all, but what is the purpose of this thread? Right now there's no topic.
In terms of this information however, was it ever mentioned what color Tyrael was in? i mean, he's obviosly white/yelllow/gold in the cinematics. so I guess we can assume he wore those colors back then as well.
Also, did they all have the same kind of wings as Tyrael has? I can't remember.

I wrote that information based on the paragraph at the end of the Veiled Prophet where the Angiris Council meets. I don't really remember it exactly, but if I didn't take note of it then it probably wasn't in the chapter (unless I missed it).
I don't think their wings were even described. Nor do I think Tyrael was described - at least not in that chapter. He was probably described in another chapter though, I couldn't search through it easily because I don't have The Veiled Prophet as a PDF document.
And tell me, where was Tyrael mentioned to be the Archangel of Justice?
Solomir should have these answers, if there are any.

The regular angels had their wings described similarly when they descended to do battle near the end though, right? I would assume that means all angels look somewhat similar.

I cannot remember exacly, but I do remember reading that he was the Angel of Justice somewhere. I don't think however it expressively gave him the title "Archangel Justice", but jsut saying eh stood for Justice of something similar to that.

Lol, yeah I thought of that after I posted. Obviously the wings were described somewhere, but when I think of the angels in the book I forget about their wings, which leads me to believe that they weren't really described or emphasised enough to enter my imagination.
Though I do remember Inarius' wings being described as stretching as far as to expand through the entire room. I think his wings were described as being rainbowish though, rather than blue.
Strange that Tyrael is called Angel of Justice and also an Archangel. They must come from two different sources.

One doesn't necessarily cancel out the other though, right? Angel of Justice might be his title, while Archangel more describes his general position in the inner hierarchy of Heaven. Sort of like Officer and, well, whatever non-officers are called. Archangel would be equal to officer, and Angel of Justice would be Brigadier General or something like that.

True, it doesn't cancel out his rank. Its just that you'd think they would be consistant with something like that.
There are two ways to use 'Angel'.
Archangel is the equivalent of Prime Evil, while Angel is the equivalent of Lesser Evil (well, sort of). So it doesn't really make sense to call Diablo the Lesser Evil of Terror when he's a lesser evil, just like it doesn't seem to make sense to call Tyrael the Angel of Justice when he's an Archangel.
However, the basic word for members of Hell is 'demon'. So I suppose Angel would be the basic word for a member of Heaven, which means that calling Tyrael the Angel of Justice is equivalent to calling a demon the Demon of Something. Which yes, makes sense to call Tyrael Angel of Justice.
Its just hard because Angel is an overlapping term. So because this kind of thing is hard, each publisher should be consitant to the terms they use. Then again, I don't recall the other Archangel's title being mentioned, so they could actually be called Angel of Death as well, which would mean that they really are being consistent by calling Tyrael the Angel of Justice.

I would not agree with that. Angel can't be equal to Lesser Evil.

This I can agree with. We can view "Angel" and "Demon" as the names for the races, or so to speak. Prime Evil would then also be equal to Archangel. That leaves an equivalent for Lesser Evil, which we do not have at this time. There may not even be one, and on top of that, there's nothing that says the rank Archangel has to stand just above angel as it does in some Christian writings. There could very well be several ranks in between Archangel and regular Angel.

Lol, I know, thats why I said "well, sort of". I was just pointing out that Archangel is a higher rank than Angel. I think Archangel is more a combination of Lesser Evil and Prime Evil. Though yes, there very well could be other ranks that we don't know of yet. I hope there are, cause its confusing.
