Today, we're going to do something a little different around here. I'm going to come out sounding like a teacher that loves to give homework, but since you aren't graded on this, and Diablo is (probably) a hobby of yours anyways, it should be fun. Answer my questions to the best you can and be as descriptive as you can. Leave no details out. And I don't want uneducated guesses, I want serious, well-thought answers. Here we go, students:
(Please place the number of the question before your answer)
1. What do you believe is happening with the Diablo franchise at Blizzard Entertainment, and what evidence supports your answer? What are your theories of its development and how do you believe it is taking shape (RPG, MMO, nothing at all)?
2. When/if the next Diablo game is announced, where will it be, when will it be, and what will be the form of annoucement? Give reasoning for your answer.
3. What genre will the next Diablo game be? Give reasoning for your answer.
4. How will Diablo3.com change within the next year? Give reasoning for your answer.
5. What would be the three most logical rumors to arise within the next three months be if the next Diablo game were to be announced in June 2008? Give reasoning for your answer.
6. What could Blizzard do to gain the most interest of Diablo fans without an annoucement of a Diablo game?
Thanks for participating. If this thread gets as much activity as I hope, I'll be posting a post-test analysis of all the members ideas combined
1. Diablo III because:
Diablo MMO would compete with WoW
They are already reviving SC, so they can as well revive Diablo
They mentioned D3 in April Fool's, so they did not "forget" the franchise
2. World Wide Invitational in June because:
There seems to be an insurge of Diablo III rumors at this point, and Medievaldragon is acting funny
Everyone is looking at the WWI, and they either going to announce Diablo III or some other game, or it will fail and they don't want that
3. Hack&Slash or else they will rename it like they did with WarCraft. But, also, like with WarCraft, they may transform the game into something new.
4. If D3 is announced, it will get more active, perhaps Umaro will give us some forum rules and get an overhaul. If D3 is not announced, this forum will become a dead resource.
5. I am not interested in rumors.
6. Release an expansion. On a seroius note, if they don't announce D3, they are in big trouble among D3 fans. I say they either announce it or they bury the series.
1. As Equinox said, because of the latest Pinata prank. We can say that Blizzard hasn't really forgotten Diablo. They seem to be quite working on it.
I guess they'll create it as an RPG. Why would they make another MMO? [WoW]. They sure would not want to make two of their own games compete.
2. I'm pretty sure they wont release D3 any soon. Either it'll be some kind of patch or an expansion or something but not D3.
Medieval told us that they are working on a D2 patch. If they were near the D3 announcement why would they be working on a patch for an older version of the same game?
3. Cannot actually say. All is in hands of Blizz. All i can say is that they'll keep it like it is. But who knows maybe they'll try and experiment D3 with another genre to see if it attracts more gamers.
4. I don't think of it changing any soon. And i hardly believe that the D3 release/announcement withing this or the next year will affect the site's appearance.
Other than a little modifications. Like windows which could show active gamers etc etc. [not quite sure]
5. Medieval knows.
6. I wouldn't actually like if they release a patch [which is the highest probability]. Because if they do release it then we can surely say that they'll then take rest and release nothing else related to Diablo until later. [too later]
Maybe they'll work on another game's exp., patch etc.
I'll be happy if they do not release anything related to Diablo before the actual D3 game.

A few years back, while Blizzard North was making Diablo II: Salvation, and starting Diablo III the sequal, Vivendi Universal was going to be bought - and Blizzard North wanted to talk to Vivendi Universal about their future, and Vivendi Universal refused, and ignored Blizzard North - so Many employee's in the end, left Blizzard North (about 30 of the 40) and the 10 that was left, was moved to Blizzard Headquarters, Diablo II: Salvation was scrapped, and Diablo III the sequal was put on the "Back burner" and Blizzard North was destroyed. Team 3 is Blizzard North, if Blizzard North was still around.
I believe they have finally recruited enough high quality employees, and are on the final stages before announcing Diablo III the sequal - and I believe the Next Gen MMO is a Diablo MMO. I believe the MMO will come out much, much later than Starcraft II, or Diablo III - So I think we will see another "Warcraft 3 + Expansion pack, World of Warcraft" scenario. I believe Starcraft II will be released, and then Diablo III, and then a Diablo MMO... many World of Warcraft players such as myself wish for an MMO like World of Warcraft, but set in a Dark world, with swarms of monsters to defeat.. none of this "elite" trash mobs that one shot clothys... only Bosses such as DIABLO should one shot someone imo.
2. I believe Diablo III the sequal will be announced at the Worldwide Invitational in Paris France (Diablo's Main fanbase), on June 29th (Diablo II's Birthday) 2008. I believe Blizzard will pull another Website type of pre-announcement, but this time the site will look more Dark and scary - The Starcraft II pre-announcement had a blue backround I believe, and it just looked like Starcraft alot.
A small prediction that the Diablo MMO will be announced a year after Diablo III is released so all the players will get really, really hyped up. Blizzard will also have a website type of pre-announcement for the Diablo MMO - and maybe it will be announced at the Next Worldwide Invitational in Europe, or... maybe Blizzcon.
3. The main game, Diablo III the sequal will be RPG Hack N' Slash just like the rest - and the Diablo MMO will be, well, an MMORPG.
4. I believe Blizzard will take this address and use it to link to their main Diablo III page, and Diablo3.com will move to another address and become an official fansite!
5. 1) Diablo II Patch 2) New Diablo Book 3) They are recruiting alot for the Diablo team 4) Website change (Either this one being taken by Blizzard and Diablo3.com moving and/or the Diablo III pre-announcement, like the Starcraft II pre-announcement.
6. Patch Diablo II, more Diablo information in Blizzcast, bring out a new book, and the Diablo Pinata was cool was well.
1. What do you believe is happening with the Diablo franchise at Blizzard Entertainment, and what evidence supports your answer? What are your theories of its development and how do you believe it is taking shape (RPG, MMO, nothing at all)?
They're definately working on Diablo 3. The influx of job opportunities, as well as the rumors that have been spreading. Also, as i will quote, "I'm not writing for a dead game." Something is definately up with Diablo 3. I think it's probably pretty far in development actually. Blizzard North was working on it and they got rid of Blizzard North but i doubt that they scratched everything that they had on Diablo 3. Also it will not be an MMO because Blizzard personally said that they do not want to become a MMO company. However I am slightly concerned about the possiblity of Diablo 3 being a MMO as Blizzard is now Activision Blizzard and Activision might want an MMO.
2. When/if the next Diablo game is announced, where will it be, when will it be, and what will be the form of annoucement? Give reasoning for your answer.
The next Diablo game will be announced at the Worldwide Invitational 2008 in Paris France. France is a huge fanbase for Diablo as Korea was for SC, so the pattern does show that Diablo will be announced. Also, why wouldn't they announce Diablo and SC around the same time; it will revive Blizzard as its been kind of dead except for WoW. Also i expect to be a huge announcement where all of Paris goes dark or all the lights suddenly change red on the Eiffel Tower, something dramatic like that as they had something huge for SC2.
3. What genre will the next Diablo game be? Give reasoning for your answer.
Um... Hack'n'Slash RPG because thats what Diablo gamers like and want. Also Blizzard has to appeal to all gamers. They have an rts and they have an MMO. Need an RPG - Diablo 3.
4. How will Diablo3.com change within the next year? Give reasoning for your answer.
It will be more focused on the game itself then just a rumor forum. It will definately change appearance. But it won't change too much. I don't think Umaro is going to sell the rights to the site to Blizzard.
5. What would be the three most logical rumors to arise within the next three months be if the next Diablo game were to be announced in June 2008? Give reasoning for your answer.
1)Diablo II Patch 2)Website change 3)The timeline again (They did all of this last year when they announced SC2)
6. What could Blizzard do to gain the most interest of Diablo fans without an annoucement of a Diablo game?
Patch Diablo II or another book.

1. Diablo franchise is well and good. They are working on Diablo 3 currently (see main topic on why it's coming). It is a hack and slash with a greatly revamped battlenet2 to make it closer to an MMO but not quite. The MMO is something completely different.
2. It will be announced this year at the french invitational. It is time.
3. Hack and slash because the series is based on it. There may be slightly more MMO influences but it will definitely not be a wow style MMO (the MMO project references do not line up with Diablo team references in job ads). Some people have said that the new MMO and Diablo 3 are one and the same but I disagree.
4. Diablo3.com will be purchased by Blizzard and we will just have to log in to a new address. Incidentally there are a number of cases that have been won recently in the Supreme court for intellectual property infringements by website campers who have had to turn over their sites. I don't believe this will be the case with diablo3.com but if Blizzard want it they will have it.
I believe they like the fact there is a site dedicated to their future game with such an active and passionate community and they will leave this till last.
5. The rumours I will expect are obviously the Diablo 2 patch. There will be more job postings for the team behind diablo 1 & 2. There will be confirmation that there are 2 separate top secret projects. And closer to the time Blizzard will pre announce a new announcement. This will be weeks before the invitational. Interspersed will be comments from Blizzard staff like how they want to revisit Diablo again, and how they miss it etc.
6. They could put a little diablo figure hidden on the main web page. People go nuts over hidden images, just look at all the crap over the banners.
1. What do you believe is happening with the Diablo franchise at Blizzard Entertainment, and what evidence supports your answer? What are your theories of its development and how do you believe it is taking shape (RPG, MMO, nothing at all)?
Something is happening, though I have no idea of where it is in development. The April Fools really is a pointer that something is coming, and Knaak's quote that he's not writing for a dead universe.
Though of course I believe this. Why else would I bother to hang around here?

2. When/if the next Diablo game is announced, where will it be, when will it be, and what will be the form of annoucement? Give reasoning for your answer.
As all other WWI in Paris. The three franchises they have are all of different designs; they are not directly competing with each other, and so long as Diablo is not an MMO, tight releases will not be a problem.
The one issue with this would perhaps be that the games would steal attention from each other. However, with the multitude of websites currently active that review and report about thousands of games each year, one or two more won't have a negative affect on the attention each and every one will get.
Quote from "AcidReign" »
3. What genre will the next Diablo game be? Give reasoning for your answer.
It would have to be something of an RPG. The design of the world doesn't lend itself too well for an RTS or an FPS, and neither for a simulation or sports game
It also exemplifies a sort of game, hack&slash, that simply hasn't gotten much love recently. It's interesting to think whether that means it's dead, or only dormant.
Quote from "AcidReign" »
4. How will Diablo3.com change within the next year? Give reasoning for your answer.
I see several possibilities.
The first, and most likely, is that Blizzard contact Umaro and tell him that they want the domain name.Umaro agrees to this, and finds another domain to host this site on before the annoucnement. This is because Blizzard is already using www.worldofwarcraft.com
and www.starcraft2.com
They have moved away from battle.net, which is as it should be.
If this does not happen, unlikely as it seems, then this site wil lstay as an official fansite. I secretly hope for this

5. What would be the three most logical rumors to arise within the next three months be if the next Diablo game were to be announced in June 2008? Give reasoning for your answer.
I have no idea. I'm betting the same rumors that have already come will rise again though
Diablo 3 will be an MMO
Diablo 3 will be Heaven/Hell
Diablo 3 will be p2p

6. What could Blizzard do to gain the most interest of Diablo fans without an annoucement of a Diablo game?
It'd have to be a book that continues like the Sin War did with the main story, but it wouldn't be as good as a game by far.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.
well I dont think that d3 will be a MMOG because he wont be available too everyone, but maybe they will make something like Warcraft-World Of Warcraft

1. What do you believe is happening with the Diablo franchise at Blizzard Entertainment, and what evidence supports your answer? What are your theories of its development and how do you believe it is taking shape (RPG, MMO, nothing at all)?
A Diablo game is in development, due to the obvious fact that Blizzard is hiring for multiple positions for the Diablo team. I think the game is well beyond concept and is in the early stages of level, character, monster, and interface design. Enough of the game will be ready for a short gameplay demo in June. I cannot determine whether or not the game will be RPG, MMO, or both. Another MMO by Blizzard seems too soon.
2. When/if the next Diablo game is announced, where will it be, when will it be, and what will be the form of annoucement? Give reasoning for your answer.
The next Diablo game will be announced on either June 28 or 29 of 2008 at Blizzard's Worldwide Invitational in Paris, France. Diablo II and Diablo II: Lord of Destruction were both released on June 29th. This date is just too convienient, as well as it's about damn time.
3. What genre will the next Diablo game be? Give reasoning for your answer.
The next Diablo game will continue to be RPG, but whether or not it will be in an MMO environment is still hard to guess. World of Warcraft is still a great MMO and I think another Blizzard MMO would be a little too soon.
4. How will Diablo3.com change within the next year? Give reasoning for your answer.
Diablo3.com will not be ours for long. Blizzard will take it and turn it into the main website for the game after the annoucement in June. They may decide to host the forum with the site, but I feel that it is unlikely. Blizzard will take/buy the site. They will get their way whether Umaro likes it or not. Personally, I think Blizzard is persuasive enough to get what they want.
A few posts a while back by Umaro seemed real fishy to me as well. Almost as if negotiations were considered... But anyways...
5. What would be the three most logical rumors to arise within the next three months be if the next Diablo game were to be announced in June 2008? Give reasoning for your answer.
Rumor #1: Blizzard hiring more Diablo team employees. This is always a sure way to get the rumor mills turning.
Rumor #2: Heavy talk spreads throughout internet weeks before the WWI about a possible game annoucement. Happened last year before the WWI in May. I remember people talking about what game might be announced.
Rumor #3: Another timeline or mystery arises a week or so before the WWI. They did this for StarCraft II last year. It worked wonders as far as hype is concerned.
6. What could Blizzard do to gain the most interest of Diablo fans without an annoucement of a Diablo game?
To gain the most interest in Diablo fans, Blizzard would have to release a Diablo II patch, or speak more about Diablo in the future BlizzCasts.
1. I believe that Blizzard is in the process of making a Diablo sequel at the moment. There has been a lot of little hints towards this.
Several Job postings for people to work with "the team behind Diablo and Diablo II".
A larger picture of Diablo for the WWI banner.
WWI falls on the anniversary of DII.
In interviews, the "no comment" smiles of the head developers of Blizzard.
Team 3, Diablo 3
Diablo II:LOD patch
Blizzard is probably nearing the tweaking portion of the game development, and will only announce the game once it is very close to being ready. I think that by the time the game is announced, it will only be about 4-8 months before the game is released.
2. Diablo will be announced at WWI this year on June 29th, since it is the anniversary of DII. The announcement is fairly easy to guess what Blizzard will do.
All the lights in the room go dark. Sounds of creepy crawlies and small demonic whispers will start growing subtly louder. The new music will play, similar to DII:LOD, but with a new flare. Then over the loudspeaker booms a deep demonic voice that penetrates the very souls of everyone in the room, "Not even death can save you from me!"
Then the screen will flash on with scenes of death and destruction, armies of Barbarians fighting strange and horrific new monsters near the top of the snow covered Mt. Arreat. Then we go to the forests of Kurast, where the Paladins are battling monsters. Then on a beach of the islands of the Amazons. Followed by the forrest of Necromancers. Next we see the jungles of the Druids, and them fighting endless swarms of beasts. Then the sorcerers/sorceress' homeland. And finally the Assasins.
Now the screen goes to a bright white/tan, heat waves are billowing up off of the sands of the Desert of Aranoch. We see a very dark skinned man, dressed in a very functional yet still somewhat elaborate garb, similar to a traditional Djinni's clothes. He is kneeling on the blistering dunes, holding a handful of sand, studying it, and slowly letting it run out of his hand back to the ground. Suddenly, the earth begins to tremble. Giant crevices streak across the dunes, the sand pouring into a fiery abyss. Millions of small terrifying creatures come rushing out of the abyss. The dark skinned man raises his hands and fire spills forth from them, engulfing several of the creatures. Then with a gesture of his hand, a being materializes out of thin air, made of a searing white fire, that then engages the demons. This gives the dark skinned man, the Overseer (my character creation), time to begin his meditation.
The ground begins to shake again, as the earth cracks and falls away into the fiery abyss. A giant horned hand grips at the edge of the chasm, and pulls himself into view, the terrifying Diablo is back. The Fiery creation of the Overseer is swarmed and destroyed by hundreds of demons, just as hundreds more all begin to circle the Overseer. The Overseer opens his eyes, and at that instant, a giant blast of sand and fire explodes outward from him, annihilating the swarm of creatures. All that is left is the Overseer and Diablo. Scortched and bloody bodies scatter the surrounding area. Diablo is furious. His roar shakes even the most steadfast warriors courage. Diablo charges. The Overseer quickly stands, and starts to run directly at Diablo. We see a closeup of the face of the Overseer and see his pupils go from circle to a thin vertical slit. His skin begins to take on a greenish hue, and then giant fangs begin to sprout from his mouth. From a wide shot, we see that the Overseer has now turned into a Giant King Cobra, rivaling the size of Diablo. Both creatures prepare to strike, and just before they collide, the screen flashes to a black screen.
Flames start to climb up from the bottom of the black screen. Then one flame licks up a little higher, and ignites the previously unseen title into flames. "DIABLO III". At the bottom of the screen says, "Coming to PC and Mac, Winter of 2008".
Black Screen.
Thunderous applause and cheers.
3. It is really hard to say what the genre the next Diablo game will be. I would assume it is going to be a blending of genres, to set a new standard to the RPG game world.
4. Diablo3.com will get a huge boost in memberships over the next few months due to all the hype and anticipation that is getting built up for an expected announcement at WWI. Plus the long awaited skin update.
5. The 3 rumors are:
More job postings for team leads, to work with the team behind Diablo and DII. This is common, and builds hype, but doesn't actually state that they are working on DIII.
Music from the game will be leaked somewhere. I think this will be a rumor because it will be a new style of music, similar to DII and DI, but a little bit different. This will build anticipation, but doesn't actually give away what game Blizzard is working on, unless it has similar themes to DII.
Somewhere in the DII:LOD patch, will be a clue to DIII. It could be a line a character says, or could be a little picture in some rocks on a map, or something along those lines.
6. Blizzard could include a lot of answers to Diablo3.com questions in the new Blizzcast. I really think that in at least one of the questions, they will give subtle hints to the coming of a new Diablo game.
(Please place the number of the question before your answer)
1. What do you believe is happening with the Diablo franchise at Blizzard Entertainment, and what evidence supports your answer? What are your theories of its development and how do you believe it is taking shape (RPG, MMO, nothing at all)?

The one issue with this would perhaps be that the games would steal attention from each other. However, with the multitude of websites currently active that review and report about thousands of games each year, one or two more won't have a negative affect on the attention each and every one will get.
I see several possibilities.
The first, and most likely, is that Blizzard contact Umaro and tell him that they want the domain name.Umaro agrees to this, and finds another domain to host this site on before the annoucnement. This is because Blizzard is already using
www.worldofwarcraft.com
and
www.starcraft2.com
They have moved away from battle.net, which is as it should be.
If this does not happen, unlikely as it seems, then this site wil lstay as an official fansite. I secretly hope for this
I have no idea. I'm betting the same rumors that have already come will rise again though
Diablo 3 will be an MMO
Diablo 3 will be Heaven/Hell
Diablo 3 will be p2p
It'd have to be a book that continues like the Sin War did with the main story, but it wouldn't be as good as a game by far.

*Bump*
