I could always make my character look more Indian. xD

but you also have to think how far blizzard can go with a customization. i mean like linkx said. you could have a tunic ove rsome chain mail. that tunic during gameplay could get ripped by swords. and torn to peices. your breast plate could be seen dented to show some durability. your gloves could look like your fingers are going through them. so ya there are many thing blizzard can do. but i think if you could have some different char sizes and skin color (depending on what class you are) and even hair color, would even be good to have.
I think it would be best to keep the bodies basic like in Diablo 2 so that you can tell what characters are what. Then have heavier armours only being able to be worn by stronger characters. Keep the clothes like tunics ripping and gloves wearing down and breast plates denting though.
i like that idea because then i don't feel like i look like everyone else.... i mean seriously how many assassin's or necro's can there be on one screen. it gets me a little annoyed b/c i can't change the actual appearance of the character. but having that ability would be AMAZING!
I like being able to change the colour of us in DII lol. Especially at low levels, I always get socketed armour and socket it with a skull. And when I play as a druid, I love wearing the Arctic Gear armour, because the orangy colour of it goes really well with Druids
In Lord Of The Rings: The Third Age, it was pretty good to have hoods for your character, but the 'cloak' was just a cape. I want a cloak that goes all the way around, and flaps about during battle. I know, its really hard to do the coding for, and tahts why no game has been able to do it yet... as far as I'm aware, atleast. But I really want them to figure it out
I want it custom appearance! It would be kick ass to get to pic a type of char (sorc, barb, etc) and then do watever the hell we want. like hair, beginning clothes, face, gender, and race.
(if we could choose gender, the female barb would be disturbing)

I think each class should be clearly defined but allow for modification within that class.
For instance, you shouldn't be able to make a necromancer the size of a barbarian. All necromancers should be forced to have white hair and be pale, but how pale and what hair style should be user defined. Facial features should me user defined as well. It just prevents all characters from looking the same while retaining the ability to easily distinguish between them.
As for units of two different classes wearing the same piece of armor and looking identical, there is a very simple solution. All armor could be class specific and in turn maintain the appearance of that specific class, with some exceptions (cloaks, capes, tunics). Think armor made from bones for necromancers, plate armor for paladins, hard leather for druids... etc.
But not all Necros have white hair. Zaal has black hair. But yes, I agree. At a glance you should be like 'oohhh a sorceress', and not 'oohh, what do you do?'.
I like the customisation in Oblivion too. Like, being able to make a really pale person with really dark eyes - like a necro, I suppose.
Ahh, I like this one. I for one like to spend hours meticulously tweaking stuff. I grew up playing armored core games. I like the idea of an avatar that projects the inner-self.
Customization would be a great addition, in my opinion. Especially if people were in a guild and/or clan. They could have their armor or shield have a specefic pattern that represents their guild.
Of course, it can go into much greater detail, but I think a customization feature would be a great addition.

But what if they do it right. Someone can do it right. And if they do it right it'll be awesome won't it be?

Customization in oblivion was pointless. It's first person. Fifa was too far to see. Hellgate London had the camera on your back, and it's a failed game. The list goes on.

It's the decisions you make when you have no time to make them that define who you are.
In Oblivion (or Morrowind) I always use 3rd Person View (vanity mode) because yes, I am vain, lol.
I never really played Oblivion though - my computer isn't good enough. I did manage to create one character on my friend's comp though lol, and play it slightly...
