I have to say after messing around, the really major problem about the current graphics is them being washed out... Notice how in my "manipulations" the colors remain warm and strong, so all you guys screaming "we dont want a grey game", can shut up now, its now about being grey
I just hope Blizzard sees this...
im actually loving these alterations...if anything the colors pop out in more detail. im fully behind blizzard seeing this comparision and having them, take this direction.
it also takes away that Painted feeling that the art seems to be going, which is in no means bad and id be fine with it if its in the final product, however id rather see it in the Backaround like for mountains off in the distance or whatnot.

I really like these manipulations, the foliage in the environment stands out more, its sharper.
the real problem for me is the size of that warhammer or whatever it is the barbarian is wielding.
honestly...in real life would that be a good shape for a weapon?
To all of you that are complaining that D3 is TOO colorful and TOO bright...Go take a look at some D2 screenshots, it to has lots of Color and bright areas. You have seen a bit of gameplay footage and some screenshots of D3 and you think you can make a judgement this quickly.http://s2d2.turboimagehost.com/sp/4b6b19389beddbf9f3e7e89ab4a12c90/D2.jpg
"if you look at diablo 1 and 2, they were very umm... I mean they obviously had the gothic look to it, but, you they weren't, they weren't very uh, very colorful games. And one of the challenges we wanted to take with Diablo III was, 'could we add color, but still maintain that gothic dark feel?' You know cause I think, uh, we want to take dark as an emotion, rather than an actual color art choice. And I think that's something that um, you know took a long time to get to the point we're at now, like we've probably gone through at least three different pretty major art direction shifts, until we got to the point where we are on stage. Because I think it's really difficult to pull that off. But, we're really happy with the game now."

I think thats enough to close this thread with a bang.

i dont think the brightness is so much the concern now, at least not for me. we all can adjust gamma and brightness on our monitors and with in game options (see the picture you posted for proof ;)) i just want sharper lines and more distinctness between something like a leaf on a rocky road and grass from that.
For a game like diablo a more defined and detailed art direction is more appealing than the painted smoothed and warm out art direction it currently has.
but in all honesty im fine with either. and content right now cause i know blizzard will look at these insane amounts of posts/threads and adjust it accordingly (just like starcraft II)and thats why they are an Amazing company.

People will still whine...The game looks great and only time will show how great its going to be.

Are you talking about D1 and D2 ? or D3 ?If you are talking about D3 then you must be looking at a different game than I am then because I dont see that at all !!

Your image just degrades and desaturates.
Blizzard WANTS the accents of vibrant colors. You washed out the important accent - the fire special effect. Now it just blends in with the ground
If anyone want to see the pic, click the "go to post" in quote, im not going to quote a crap picture.

Maybe if you increased the brightness and contrast a bit further it will look even more bright.
?????
Never in the 5 solid years that I had played Diablo2 had I seen the textures so bright. If I took a screenshot it looked even darker.
The games that are dark and filled with shadows and darkness are made that way on purpose. Doom and Resident Evil weren't made so you can see through the darkness as if it were day.
And I can't figure out why you so blatantly refuse to accept that D3 looks terrible and far from the concept art. Nothing like D2. Your argument is that D2 had colors?

The Barbarian is from Arreat, a very cold snowy mountain top, but they are much tougher than normal humans, so they don't need warmth.

Where are Barbarians originally from? Sumeria, or more specifically Mesopotamia, AKA Europe. Think the Alps and the Pyrenees

I wonder guys when do you realize that a 3D game WILL look cartoony unless it's really detailed which will kill most computers? Or that stuff just doesn't get to you?

Maybe you can't get it that I don't give a flying fuck if it kills your computer.

The fact many ppl on these forums have made the game look much better by just messing around on photoshop proves that its a bunch of simple changes. It's not the whole graphics engine that needs a revamp, it's the art style, which, as everyone can see, is not that hard to do.

so the art design you currently see for diablo 3 does not look like it was painted and it looks very detailed and has precise/distinct lines on each objects?
or are you looking at the AFTER fan manipulated art?
The fact many ppl on these forums have made the game look much better by just messing around on photoshop proves that its a bunch of simple changes.
No, that actually proves that people have no idea how graphics are made at all. You keep using sharp edges on those screens and that would take a lot more polygons in 3D. It's easy to operate with 2D. It's easy to put a tint on a static picture. But when it comes to models and lighting and performance it gets much more complicated.
The most notable complaint can be addressed to the 2D background on which the game is played. It may be modified. Everything else is not really that simple. You say the armor is too bulky - try to make a model that has curves, is not bulky, and doesn't have too many polygons. You'll end up with a bulky model or a high-polygon model, or a compromise, which is what most 3D game kinda strive for.
Now, maybe you don't care about buying a super computer for Diablo III, some people do, and that's to whom Blizzard will sell.

Here's 3D without cartoony for yal...

I like it but some of the textures would have to be changed, too.
Such as the rocks on the side, for example. Way too washed out and... Just blend looking.
im a 3D modeler and artist, i know how games are made and i know there's serious flaws in the Diablo 3 engine and in their art style.
Great. Then give me a 3D Diablo-like scene the way you want to see it... and make sure it's low-poly, too. Not photoshoped images with fabricated sharp edges... anyone can do that.

cain's gimmicky clothes, did you ever see an old knowledgeable master that experienced the suffering of the elderly dressing like that funny?haha...
DIFFERENT ARTISTS MAKES DIFFERENT GAME!!NEW CLASS of WoW above.
You seem to know much about what Blizzard wants and seem very familiar with their design ideas. Maybe you were part of their developing team?
Oh, please don't restrain yourself from quoting 'crap' pictures! I love hearing your comments.
