www.dictionary.com defines a gimmick as "an ingenious or novel device, scheme, or stratagem, esp. one designed to attract attention or increase appeal"
And before you try to say that the gimmick you are referring to is.. to equip or embellish with unnecessary features in order to increase salability, acceptance, etc...
Everything they have put in the game thus far has been to create smoother game play and is in no way unnecessary extra just to make the deal more aethetically pleasing.
Please do not let me discourage you from grinding away good sir. If WoW does it for you, then use the positive connotation of "gimmick" as your definition. If you were well read you would know the negative connotation, but that's another matter. What is important is that we keep Diablo away from WoW so that people who do not like WoW ( and they are well-justified ) are still interested in Diablo.
Titan quest copied Diablo II and God of War, Diablo III copied WOW and God of War.
What's the alternative here, no D3? Think I'll take D3 over no D3 thank you very much.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
Nah you got it wrong, wether or not WoW is a great game should have no resemblance on Diablo 3, that is EXACTLY the problem. The way i'm seeing it is Diablo fans who either love or hate or don't care about WoW (and who don't want WoW in Diablo, nomatter wether they love WoW on itself) against WoW fanboys who can't stomach people disliking WoW art in Diablo.
But the problem herein lies that many people are unaware the WoW borrowed many mechanics from D2. When these mechanics are brought back from D2, much of the fanbase will see it as "WoW copying."
Should they share gameplay mechanics? No. Should they share good core rpg ideas, sure, why not?
Have you played the game? Have you given it a fair chance? Probably not. You're probably just angry at WoW because Diablo hasn't had a fair chance. So are we all, but there is no reason you should be getting mad at WoW.
Its a great game, over 9 million people can attest to it.
That's a terrible argument, specifically that you're using an argument from popularity. It doesn't jive. The reason WoW is popular isn't because of the graphics. It's because it is easy. Every aspect of it is easy. This is why it is popular. In fact, it is very similar to the reason why games like TF2 and Halo are popular.
Easy to play, easy to master.

The issue has nothing to do with WoW mechanics. It has everything to do with WoW appearance and feel.
No one has to crap on WoW to make their point. WoW is a great game for many people, shown by the number of subscribers.
But I tried it, and it didn't work for me. I just didn't really want to do the quests because the world felt fake to me, and I didn't want to "rescue it".
Blizzard could do a really great thing here by making sure their two different IPs are really separate: WoW for people who really like faerie and fantasy, and Diablo for their darker-minded fans who like horror and terror. They could cover a large swath of people with this strategy.
While WoW emphasizes careful, orchestrated PvE with healers, tanks, DPS, etc., DIII is more about "everyone jump in, let's kill some monsters". Different strokes for different folks.
Let's keep it that way! Blizzard would show off their immense artistic and gameplay talent in managing to preserve the flavors of two very different-feeling IPs separate, while covering people who want a more fantasy-type story and others who like a darker story. Financial success!
But WoWing Diablo III is short-sighted because this new game just covers the same population. More WoWers will buy initially, but those who need a dark RPG will migrate to a new franchise.
D3 lead designer is jay wilson the man behind dawn of war and company of heroes so i don't think hes too much of a wow lover. maybe he sees it as a great game but that doesn't make him wow lover.

Diablo 3 is graphically and artistically great, there needs to be variety in the game, instead of only plain and dark areas!
+Wouldn't it be better and more interesting if from a sunny beautiful day, mist starts covering the screen, rain starts falling, thunders and lightning striking and it starts to darken, instead of constant dark!?

The lead art dev is the lead art dev from WoW. There is a reason why they look exactly the same. It also shows us that he is, indeed, a one trick pony. And that is sad.
its so typical. over the last years (and since WoW was released and gained a huge fan base) on this site there were people whining about how Blizzard have their attention on WoW and do nothing about Diablo.
Now that we know they've been working on Diablo III for over 3 years we find another reason to whine about.
"It looks too much like WoW."
you guys hate so much a game you havent even played. You dislike a setting and graphics you havent even seen.
Naxxramas for example was a pretty spooky place in WoW end-game raiding but few people managed to see that. Some places in the Plaguelands or in Shadowmoon Valley (for those that have heared of Burning Crusade) and quite a few quest chains change the mood from "happy" to "spooky". There's lots of grind alright, but thats about it being a MMORPG. Theres none without grinding.
The gameplay demo showed they kept the gameplay intact and improved it a bit. The (scraps of the) story they showed us looks at least promising and the character customization (at least in matter armor looks) improved much.
I've played too many hack & slash games while waiting for Diablo III and none gave me the feeling a simple video of Diablo III did!
Shoot me if you want, i was an active WoW player and i will go for Wrath of the Lich King till Diablo III is out.
let me say it again this is diablo it is not meant to be wow2, any one that want it to look fell like wow wait for wow2 don't turn our beloved diablo in to wow please blizzard listen to me

Many of you have some sort of strange pent up rage at WoW, blaming it for how long it took to release D3.
WoW is a great game in its own right, many of its gameplay aspects originally evolved from D2, so there is a nice synergy there.
But the problem herein lies that many people are unaware the WoW borrowed many mechanics from D2. When these mechanics are brought back from D2, much of the fanbase will see it as "WoW copying."
