If I recall correctly the servers were top-of the line. Operand or something like that.
This is true, I don't remember the exact name, but they are top of the line. 1500 of these servers is A LOT. I was told 400 of these is more than enough for wow and it's expansions. (And they already have the capacity for that). I will go ahead and make an assumption stating Sc2 wouldn't need more than 500 of those servers. So where's the other 1,000 go to? heh. Sounds like a HUGE game is coming out.
I'v kept my mouth shut for quite some time now. I'v been mostly reading what other people have had to say and awaiting Leizeg(sp) because I believe that the announcement for D3 will take place there and that the beta-key is for D3. However, I would like to point a couple things out.
When it comes to D2:LOD coming out merely a year after D2 may I just say this... DEE DEE DEE!! They set it up it was obvious they had plans for the expansion all along. Blizzard sets up almost every single game for an expansion because that way they add what they want to add with double the money for 2 games.(Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness, Warcraft 2: Beyond the Dark Portal, Starcraft, Starcraft: Brood War, Diablo 2, Diablo 2:LOD, Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos, Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne, World of Warcraft etc. etc........yes it was necessary to put all of those) I guarontee that Diablo 3 has been in production for a long time ALONG with an expansion which will come out on a later date.
Diablo 3 will be in a form of an MMORPG.. Not the same. They also would not make D3 without a Single Player mode. So technically no, it won't be an MMORPG because those are strictly online. Thinking LOGICALLY, if there weren't single player mode it would not be Diablo 3 and if there is single player then that means no monthly fee. WoW and Diablo would not take consumers away from eachother. They both of a completely seperate style of gameplay. Some people don't like the overhead view but they like the Third Person view on WoW. Plus, knowing some of the people who play WoW like it is a religion they would have no problem playing both. Also, to your comment about making the game completely brilliant that was directed toward someone doubting the MMORPG idea I would like to say, Umm... What? Just because it's not MMO doesn't mean its not going to be a completely spectacular game. I know it probably wasn't your intention but the way you said it said to me "It will only be good if it is MMO"
Based on your information on SC: Ghost and WC Adventures being terminated just before release does support your theory of a late announcement but at the same time it also points toward "D3 got canned" which, sadly, is a possibilty.
The servers doesn't mean shit. They are creating a new battle.net from what I understand which would require some. They are constantly adding to WoW and with the up coming SC2 and hopefully D3 they will need quite a bit of servers, and if you've ever played WoW or on B.Net you'd know people bitch about lag ALL the time. Maybe they're just being extra cautious.(sp.. i really dont care..)

That is waaaaaaaaaaay incorrect. They use multiple of these servers for each realm. You have three world servers, as well as the database server, and the npc server. At the very least, that is 5 servers per realm.
That's enough for 300 realms, then. But you have to remember, they swap out servers all the time, as population increases, and the old hardware is outdated.
when the servers where purchased WoW used roughly 300 servers, they planned on doubling that amount leaving 900, this was a year ago and i can see wow up to 700 servers now...

If you ever meet a hafling and a hungry dragon you dont have to outrun the dragon, you only have to outrun the hafling.
I was off - I forgot the instance servers. That means at least 6 servers per World of Warcraft realm. That means those servers would be enough for 250 WoW realms. There are currently 224 realms in the US version alone.
...
Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness, Warcraft 2: Beyond the Dark Portal, Diablo, Diablo: Hellfire, Starcraft, Starcraft: Brood War, Diablo 2, Diablo 2:LOD, World of Warcraft etc.
Hellfire was not Blizzard. It was a very ordinary expansion, and it is why you will not find it in the Diablo Battlechest.
Technically Diablo was a kind of MMORPG through battlenet. I don't see them reducing the online capabilities of Diablo 3 and probably expanding them. I doubt it will hurt the single player game play and I imagine they will make it more challenging and fun to play on Battlenet like all the battlenet only loot in D2:LoD.
The servers were opterons, a big whopping 1500 of them...
Now about the people leaving WoW to play D3 argument that floats around...
You are forgetting the DIABLO playerbase is also playing WoW(They would love to play D3 instead)... These players would go back to a Diablo game as soon as it hits the shelves
From what im seeing with WoW atm, alot of people are getting annoying with the balancing aspects ala PvP. Eg, Warlocks, They freaking rape 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3 but aren't "over-represented" in 5v5 Arena brackets.
Most of the World PvP that takes place on PvP realms is 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3... to not balance classes to 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3 is quite a big fuck you to the customers, who have always given feedback to the classes which they play.
Another example of this is, how many times they have changed the mechanics of "fear' since the games release, but this in't about WoW, its about why Diablo players playing WoW will leave WoW to play a new Diablo game when ever it comes out.
Also, about D3 being an mmorpg... won't happen, Blizzard has stated they DON'T want to be an MMO ONLY company, and Diablo's style has always maintained the Single Player capability with Online Play attached.
Another reason it won't be an MMO is because of the HUGE effort they have to currently maintain the WoW Servers, customer service, In game support, the list is endless. As i read somewhere they have like 1000 customer service reps or w/e, its just mind boggling.
One last thing, i wouldn't call Guild Wars an MMORPG, Yes the PvP side is like an MMORPG, but thats only in arenas. Being in a Town in GW's is like being in a chat room, and when you leave chat room to enter a game, u leave the town, but if just ONE of ur partys members runs back to town, you ALL GO TO TOWN. thats rly fukin gay, along with all the instance crap

HAHA! You had gay friends... Tell me RVR in GW2 won't kick MAJORRRRRRRRR ASSSSSSSSSSS... You can't it will be all like... PEWPEWPEWPEWPEW ROAR!!!! CHARR!!!! HUMANS!!!! THOSE LITTLE GUYS WITH BIG EARS!!!! THE BEAR PEOPLE!!!!! PEWPEWPEW!!!!!
i really dont see diablo 3 being an mmorpg. wow has 135 devs. if team 3 turns out to be some diablo sequal, it only has 40 devs. 40 vs 135. i sense a shitty mmo.
Id just like to congratulate d2dealz in his work. No, im not being sarcastic, im serious. He has the most logic of anyone who has speculated out loud (that is, posted a thread with their thoughts) and he actually makes sense. His reasoning makes me beleive everything he says.
Just wanna say thanks mate, you did exactly what you said you were: you got my head in the same space as yours. Good work, keep it up.
Just returned from holidays and I felt like contributing here by saying my humble opinion.
First, the good news. The Wrath of The Lich King expansion pack for WoW is about going to Northrend and killing ARTHAS. Here is the key, Arthas. He is the most powerful being on Azeroth according to Warcraft lore. The only thing that could beat Arthas is Kil'Jaeden or some Demon Lord. But the planet the demons are originated was not included in the lore (or so I think). In other words, this expansion signifies the end of WoW, because there is no more world to add. The end of WoW means the release of a new Blizzard MMORPG to remain dominant in the industry. And I think you caught the bad news. World of Diablo.
I respectfully reject this theory as the ravings of a madman. End a 9 million subscriber game MMO...
Well even if Diablo 3 doesn't come out soon then I can honestly say that no, I won't play hellgate london as a substitute. It looks like an alright game but fighting demons and evil overlords just doesn't seem right without a sword, bow and magic..
