Okay I'm going to try to keep this straight forward. I play many games so some of it will definitley be influenced.
-Larger world, more explorable.
-Side quests.
-Jobs (hey, you need some gold!).
-Survival (Eating, preventing disease etc).
-Darker World (Like Diablo I).
-More Mercenaries (Act IV didn't have).
-Animal Mercenaries/Pets (Okay there are summoners but what about the Barbarians? They need someone too!).
-3D (First person view. Oh you 2D fans please don't kill me).
Okay that was a broad list, now I'll add sub topics to each.
-Larger world, more explorable.
Landscapes.
Multiple routes that don't lead to dead ends.
States, having different laws (if it's 3D).
Enviormental details.
Trails etc. (If an animal/monster has been in the area, leave trails unless it's a rocky surface, again if 3D).
-Side quests
Helping people.
Quests not important to storyline.
Quests for your own benefit.
-Jobs
So you can make a living.
Jobs can help determine your stats.
-Survival
Eating.
Wearing clothes to protect you from the elements.
Adds a more realistic feel.
-Darker World
Oh please don't make it a cartoon.
Have it more gorey, bloodier, and scarier.
Don't overdo it and go Doom 3.
-More Mercenaries
Adds variation.
Adds personalization.
Certain classes/skills should work well as a combo with mercenaries.
-Animal Mercenaries
Totally cool!
I love animals.
Maybe even pets?
-3D
Don't kill me for saying 3D.
Like I said, not cartoony.
First Person 3D.
Ok so there you go. I know this is pointing a lot to an MMO, but so far every bit of evidence has been pointing to Diablo 3 (if existent) being an MMO, sorry, but it's true. Please again, like I said, don't hate me for this list.
@ Stereo we have covered most of if not all of that stuff.
i suppose a repost of the master list of ideas is overdue though.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
No first person. I've played a forst person hack-and-slash. Didn't work with me. And jut so you know, that hack and slash was Oblivian/Morrowind. The combat is hack-and-slash anyway.
First person would kill Diablo...
1st. The map would have to change.
2nd. Summons would suck because you can't tell where they are, though in PvP it might become an advantage.
3rd. It would make it so less demons are killed at a time or at least you wouldn't get the same satisfaction because you can't see the effect if you use a move like Poison Nova or something where the effect is widespread.
4th. NO!
Well, I'm not going to read all 75 pages of this, so I hope I don't reiterate TOO much of what has been said. Here's the list.
1.No 3d. As in, no fancy 1st person it just slows things down. Imagine some of the mobs in D2 made with 3D sprites and you get the picture. I've tried to get into games like Dungeon Siege and they just aren't fast paced enough. Forget about zoom even, don't need it, don't want it. Remember some of the cool little details in Diablo dungeons like bodies trapped in torture devices and things like that or blood spattered on walls? It's too resource intensive to do all that with a 360 degree aspect. So no 3d. Turning on 'perspective' in the video options was plenty of 3d for me. (I still think the Countess' Tower in D2 looks cool like that). In fact, the perspective option in d2 is more realistic than a lot of 3d games that are out where yes the landscape is fancy looking but things like tops of tall buildings don't 'move' independantly of the ground around them.
2.Character specific quests/areas. This would make replay value. Like Necromancers have to do quests involving Rathma lore and things like that. Barbarians have to travel into the Highlands to learn about their heritage and gain items/abilities. Make the game different for each class depending on their role in the world. I'm thinking of the DnD series of books where Raistlin Majere had to survive the 'Tower of Sorcery' in order to gain 'ultimate power'.
3.No pets or pack mules. They just get in the way of the action. If I wanted a virtual pet I'd play Black and White or get a Tamagotchi.
4.Make spells/abilities have different graphics when given skill points. Like instead of a seperate firebolt/fireball spell for the sorc, make it so that skill points invested into firebolt make the result larger and more fiery and give it more area of affect. Like level 1 firebolt is a simple fire missile, but level 20 firebolt is a massive explosion on contact dealing loads of aoe damage.
5.Don't skimp on the music. Use the same european orchestra to make the music that was used for the LoD add on (I've heard they have recorded D3 music already. YUMMY!). Sound quality is more important to me than fancy graphics. I love the music in Harrogath.
6.I'm not against pay to play as that is really the only way to keep piracy from eating your revenues. But expansions should be FREE and regular. Hell make the damned initial purchase free too. It'll pay for itself as long as you keep it interesting.
7.Bigger stash. Damn I hate trying to juggle a multitude of runes/gems/magic find gear, etc.
8.If D3 is an mmorpg make a good balance between single/multi. Is this possible? Like if somebody chooses to solo instead of party, maybe give them quests that give them abilities beyond a constant leech/partier. Maybe this goes back to point 2 somewhat. Or maybe that an area is harder for mp, but gives more experience if you do it single player. Or something. Give us introverts a leg to stand on!
Well I think that about sums it up because I think that most of us all want the same thing: D3 to be D2: Bigger Badder Uncut.
the thing i want to see is the ability to reset your skill tree so you can change how many skill points you have in one ability and then put those points into something else. that way, all the bad skills you put points in can be transfered to a better skill.
yeah cuz sometimes u mess up on skills u put in and it dont work out that way and sometimes u mess it up so bad u have to make a whole new character. and it licks nuts..

Shizit happens...and when it does... i will be there to throw it in ur face..
this little idea randomly came to me, called "bargaining," in which you can go up to a random villager or person in the area and see what items they have with them, and you can trade some gold for what they have. for example, say they had some sort of amulet, you can pay their asked price for it, but unlike gambling you can see what the item is. however, they may ask for a LOT of gold depending on the item they have, and every NPC will carry different items. i've also been thinking of a way to make it possible so that you can trade items for items, instead of gold. in this system you would trade in an "asked for" item (they will have a list of items they they would want in return for the item you want from them. for example say you wanted that same amulet, but didn't want to use gold, the computer will look over your inventory [the NPC will be assigned a particular "want list" and if you have what they want you can swap items like a b.net trade.] there will be a "want" list, which will show the items the NPC want from your inventory.)
EDIT: i know, it's just like buying from a merchant, but this will be alittle different. the NPC will have a tiny inventory, probably the size of the horadric cube, and EVERY item is identified, and they may be carrying useless crap (but unique useless crap, say the NPC was a kid and they had a doll or something) but it will be fun to see if they DO have something usefull; it's also a cool way to integrate missions into this
another random idea: an NPC "mule," which would be like an NPC that acts as a unique stash to the act your in (although this idea seems kinda pointless since you already have a stash + inventory, i'm just trying to be creative). i don't know where to go with this one, however maybe if you can think of some way to make these idea work that would be cool.

Bargaining seems like the DND skill persuade. you can use it to persuade someone to lower their prices.
i think also that the characters have more vocal responses to missons and other characters, just be more interesting.
thats was what was cool about diablo 1, you find a big mushroom and if you try to use it the character says "that could kill me"
this sort of thing was present in D2:LOD, but i think there was more of it in D1.

But it is nice not having an emotionless zombie following you around.

actually there's more voive respone in D2 than in D1, but is a small diference, anyway, it would be cool to hear u char voice a lil more
I posted this in an other thread but i think it will fit here better:
Iwould like to be a spirit of a dead heroe (from D1 perhaps) and posses the corpses of undead monsters and control their hell skills against them selves.
btw, i would like to have a little more help from heaven in a D3, if it's a prequel they should be there in the sin war, and if it's a sequel, it's time for them to come down here and help us, we are just mortals against the 7 evils from the burning pits of hell, and we are good at it, but a lil help would be nice. Plus u could be able of choosing the angel/god/heavenly creature that will asist u in battle, thing that will determine what character class u can choose and wich skills u may may have.
As an example, if u choose Tyrael u can choose among the human clases as he is the most close to humans, or if u choose other angel (i don't know the name of them all) the one that comands the heaven armys, then u can choose to be a spirit or anima, with their particular skills, and so on...
and to honour the argument variety that had D1, depending of what heaven faction u choose u may have diferent quests, and that way the game would be more diverse
ok, i'm dreaming a bit, but i would like to have a more complex game, not lineal argument
