Well if their going to allow Modding it should be supported by providing a full Toolset and Why are people talking about how Blizzard could charge for it and capitalize off of it ? I've never seen any game charge extra to use the Editor it comes with, not even the high grade Unreal Editor 3 which was shipped with Unreal Tournament 3. Unreal Editor 3 ( UE3 ) is able to be used to Mod anything related to the game and more for those familiar with Epic and their Unreal Engine 3.

I sure hope Blizzard nails any exploits that allow duplicating equipment and items like in Titan Quest. I was so sick of players asking to duplicate my equipment or another player for his equipment to keep for themselves, or joining a server and seeing a 3 2 1 countdown which meant there was duping going on. I don't want to see these Kids ruining the game again, or be an annoyance.
yes, exploits and hacks are sucky.
However, what I would like would be what the topics about... mods.
I'd love to be able to make my own quests, items, NPCs, enemies, locations. And since this can only affect you game if you download the mod I created I fail to see anything wrong with this.
It's just like Warcraft, Starcraft, and Neverwinter Nights.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
As long as Blizzard takes care of hacking and exploited mod's I think everything should be welcome on Open Battle.net servers so everyone can play through the Mod's as a team, or Mod's that specifically require more than one player due to it's difficulty.
i think the effort that would go into making a world editor should go into keeping other people from making world editors. there are really three routes, blizzard:
not make a world editor and hope noone makes one. Use the time saved to start the next project (also known as plan D.I.A.B.L.O. 2)
not make a world editor, work to prevent world editors from rearing their heads
make a world editor, try to capitalize off of it and tear your hair out in tears as you realize that no one's buying the one you're trying to sell because you made it easy for other people to make free ones.

or include it in the game~ which would probably prompt more of us nay-sayres to buy and see if we could effect the lighting through it.

That's a retarded assumption. If anything, Blizzard will sell MORE if they include a world editor/modding tools.
yes ava, thank you for explaining for me. I meant as a separate package. Making it part of the actual basic game is just a bad move because you won't get new buyers from it. The only difference it makes is in the eyes of the people that already planned on buying it.
Since when has a company ever been dumb enough to sell the world editor or modding tools separately from the game ? It just cracks me up thinking about it. If anyone should be selling their editor's it would be Epic Games with their Unreal Editor 3 which comes with all of their past and Current Unreal Tournament titles, and Gears of War ( with the game ) for free with a supply of updates containing fixes and add-ons. Selling the Diablo 3 Modding Tools separate will just mean less Mod's since everyone is not provided the tools free like every other game that ships with the tools plus Blizzard makes Millions a Month, so what's the point in charging ?

I bought warcraft 3 because of Dota.
If they sold it separately only a few people would buy it and the rest would download it. Also Blizzard would get a lot of hate for not including it with D3.

lol good stuff again, the best thing to do to prevent these things, is to create a free account at www.box.net and store your game saves online, they offer free online file storage up to 1GB which is more than enough for saved game files, and charge for 5gb to 15gb. I've had game files stored on there for a few months now.

Are you talking about free 3rd party modding tools for download or tools that charge a fee to use because the Gmod is free from what I know.
