I think the "evil" or "dark" characters should be removed, such as Necromancer. The purpose of all Diablo's storyline is the Hero (Good Guy, emphasis on "Good"). I definitely think they should consider balance between all characters if they allow.
Allow both male and female versions of the characters.
I like the following character types:
Barbarian (Amazon is Female Version) - Focus on savage melee combat
Knight - Replaces Paladin, focuses on structured melee combat
Shaman - Replaces Druid, Master of the Forces of Nature
Sorceress/Sorcerer - Master of Elements of Fire, Cold, and Lightning
Rouge - Replaces Assassin, Master of Traps and Deception
Conjurer: A wizard able to create things. Like temporary armor, weapons, auras, stop arrows mid flight, etc.
Also each of the classes I listed in both posting should have one major weapon as part of their base skills and one minor weapon (recieves half bonuses main weapon has). A major weapon requiring two hands gets more bonus than one requiring one hand (50% more). Same with a minor weapon. Also all characters have one of their skill tabs the same as all other classes except for primary/secondary weapon skills on it. Allow all characters to raise skills to raise attack rating, defense rating, attack speed, run/walk speed, overall resistances, maximum resistances, life restoration, mana restoration, casting speed, and hit recovery speed.
Other two skill tabs would have cool skill not relating to those listed here or affect those listed here as synergies either.
All traps are localized (no Lightning Sentry, for example).
Oh also, all skills doing damage (like Frozen Orb) will affect the caster as well if caster enters the area of effect. So using Fissure, Blizzard, Meteor, etc. on yourself will affect you as well. Skills should not be allowed to be used by other classes (like Knight using Teleport). Prevents overpowering and keeps class stereotyping in place.
Examples of Skill changes:
Knight would get Smite (Shield Bash) that would be available to use at Experience Level 1 doing 1-2 damage per skill level and 5% knockback of 1 yard per skill level. Shield is used as a weapon. Requires an attack roll.
Knight would get Critical Strike that would be able to be used at Experience Level 6 that would add 10% enhanced damage per skill level when used as an attack. This modifier is applied after all modifiers are applied.
Rouge would get pit trap that would be available to use at Experience Level 6 doing 1-2 damage per skill level and preventing movement or person being affected by Pit Trap to be attacked by anyone not within 1 yard of them. Person affected cannot or be attacked by opponent unless they have a attack with a 3 yard reach (polearm or ranged attack), and all damage by those attacks do half damage. Person affected can teleport out of Pit Trap of course.
marshall i get what your sayin but still vampires just doesnt sound right for diablo 3, it might be because i think of countchocula whenever somebody says stuff about vamps.
here are a couple of things that i would like to see based on the heaven vs. hell theme.
first off, the ability to choose the gender of your character.
and along those lines, greater ability to control your character, height, weight, maybe be able to put your own face on the character.
getting rid of the 99 lvl limit. it's kinda of a bummer after you reach it. i would like to see past lvl 150 characters being able to go on a quest to become a higher form of a character. and with that you would be able to have either wings or horns and a tail, depending on which side you choose. and as you move either light or fire marks your trail. and you stature changes. you become a larger being. you would become sort of a titan, in the terms of greek mythology.
i don't really understand how guilds would play a roll in diablo, seeing how it was previously made. but if there are guilds i would like there to be no limit to how long a guild can get. the idea of a guild war with hundreds of people makes me all happy in my pants.
oh and crossing classes. like having a barbarian who can summon like a necromancer.
i haven't played in years... so i'm a bit rusty with diablo knowledge... so let me fire up my game again, and i'll have more comments soon.
Wow, very interesting ideas! Hmm... I think our little forum has just been a bit more lively.
I like the ideas that Hybrid, jm, and sonnychiba proposed. I see that you have placed much effort on those thoughts. I identify myself with Hybrid a little bit more, that's sort of how I pictured the character creations will be if the D3 theme is indeed Heaven vs. Hell.
I strongly agree with Sonny about more on character customization; to be able to choose the gender, hair colour, and other features. I love customizing charactes; it gives you more of an individuality. Although, I don't quite agree on being able to grow horns or wings. I like Hybrid's idea better, the form/type/features of the armour your character wears depends on his/her class and alliance. I also don't quite agree with "crossing" classes. It's a little odd to me.
Although, you have very good ideas, Marshal, I don't quite agree with the vampire character idea. It's not credible enough. As DiabloKillerMan said, there was never any mention of vampires (except just as enemies) in the world of Diablo. And how will it that Diablo would raise her and return to his "wanderer form". It all just doesn't make sense. But, you did pose a very good point about the Worldstone.
If you're right, and Tyreal did say that. Then, that would prove that the Worldstone is indeed some sort of barrier/warding that protects the mortal realm from the other realms. If Baal fully corrupted the Worldstone, then I suppose that would mean that only demons will be able to cross over to the mortal realm. But, because Tyreal had a hand in destroying it, then, perhaps, the worldstone wouldn't be fully tainted and there would be some kind of condition where angels would equally have the same power as the demons in the mortal realm.
Knightmarex if you comeplete act 5 it tells u all the info u need to comfirm that, just to let u know and i just cant wait until the first message is sent out confirming that diablo 3 is under construction.
Let me clarify mine. I wrote a lot without thinking through it. Actually, when I put certain classed I forgot about the whole customization ideas. I do think that Blizzard will have male and female for both. Actually, I guarentee they do. But still the classes are exactly as I explained them. I'm probably about 80% sure Diablo 3 will be along those lines.
As for neutral classes, there are atleast 3. Always. But the Neutral classes will change very little depending on whether you are good or evil. Basicly only appearance will change. Skills will hardly change at all...
I'm also guessing that since Diablo himself is dead, Blizzard may not exactly call the game Diablo 3, but either:
A) Change the name entirely, example: Tyreal: Devil's Sidekick (*Lame yes. But an example non-the-less...*)
Well, Diablo is the master. The Devil. If the Devil dies, hes dead. Gone. Tyreal is the supreme evil now. No dought Blizzard will tap into this, whether as a Act, or the main story line, he will be a boss.
Well, if you're going through that route (that D3 might be under a different name), then, you're probably right, Hybrid.
But, if they try to keep to the original storyline, I think diablokillerman is right. From the archive books about the Diablo Universe, it said that when the 3 Prime Evils found out about the soul stones, they thought of a plan to corrupt it (with the help of the captured and tortured Izual of course). And it was their whole plan to do so all along when they were exiled to the mortal world.
Now, when they actually were exiled to the mortal world, they weren't very powerful, because what gives them their vast power is Hell. They need to tap into those energies and the only way to do that is with the soulstones. They said that the Prime Evils were also weak, and they need to possess corporeal bodies to stay in the mortal realm. That is why the Horadrim were able to capture them in the first place.
Now, I think the power that makes the demons (possibly even angels alike) weak in the mortal world, is the Worldstone. Now that it's destroyed, then, they have nothing to worry about. I think when we killed Diablo, their powers either returned to Hell, or just scattered throughout the mortal realm. In any case, the Worldstone is destroyed, so, demons and angels alike will be able to hold corporeal form and draw their power from Hell/Heaven without any problems.
wow u guys r deap lol and when u think of my vampires dont go for count chocula go for blood rayne or selene from under world (when she enters blood more she says (blah im goin to suck yo blood)
be sides vampires will never survive in the sunlight ;(
and it should be called DIABLO 3: moon of the spider
the spider abviously bit diablo mutated into a giant fiend after the fiend is slain sum wacko alchamist like nithalack retrieves blood from the corpse and CLONES DIABLO...... yes?? no??? lol
well i guess no vampires >.> yeah tyreal says that knighmare right after u kill baal but since every one skips that part and goes on and get rushed they miss it but i listen to all the text makes game fun

gosh... i need to read the books. i need more diablo!!!
one thing that i miss a lot from diablo 2 lod is how the amazon used to be able to use the guide arrow and it would go through and come back again and again with the skill of pierce of course, but i would like to see that element come back because that is a magic that the amazon has
i like the whole horns and wings idea, it sounds pretty cool, and maybe when u finally got them they could help u in some way idk, but i think it would be sweet, and we definately need to be able to customize the height and weight, like a barbarian if u wanted to make him small his arms would be a lot bulkier than the taller one with lankier arms n what not
more spells and skills are a must that goes without even saying
wow u guys r deap lol and when u think of my vampires dont go for count chocula go for blood rayne or selene from under world (when she enters blood more she says (blah im goin to suck yo blood)

Well, I sort of understood the part that you were talking about more agile/heroic vampires. But just the simple thought of vampires as the good guys in Diablo doesn't mix. That's like putting Orcs and Elves in the storyline of Diablo. It's a little off. Think about it, in the Diablo world, they always talk about ONLY angels, demons, and mortals. Elves aren't mortals (or angels or demons), Orcs aren't mortals (or angels or demons), and vampires most certainly aren't mortals (or angels, but were demons in D2). So, I don't think there would be vampires in D3, only as enemies.
It can't be called Moon of the Spider, because that's a book. It's more like a spin off of the Diablo storyline. And Nihlathak is not an alchemist but a necromancer, and he couldn't retrieve the blood from the corpse that clones Diablo because Nihlathak is dead. Your character killed him in Act 5, remember?
I agree more with DiabloKillerMan. If Diablo died, he'll just go back to his soulstone (because it's what holds his power/his essence while in the mortal world). Now, because his soulstone was smashed, the only place that power/essence would go to would either be Hell, or it can just stay scattered vastly in the mortal world.
I suggest you guys really read the Diablo stories. It's in the archives in D1. It might give you guys more insight. It gave me insight when I read it.
what do u think about, before ur char is made u choose if its evil or good, and depending on which one u chose u go down a different path throughout the game and u get different armour and the evil would be dark and the good would be light and give off light, and in the last act u would battle the oppossite side, and if u die there is a chance that ur character can get taken away and u cant get out of the "jail" unless u agreed to help there side
i forgot this, but we need to be able to have many more chars than just 6, main reason is that i run out of room to hold stuff all the time, and it pissed me off
in d2 normal nightmare and hell are all the same that is bullcrap, its so boreing i cant believe they did that, i havent heard of anybody finishing the full game because its so boreing. They should make just a huge difficulty as you go on it gets really really hard instead of doing the same thing over and over. I hope that they have been working on this game over the past years so it will be so great and unbelieveable it would blow us away and be so fun. BUT they probably just started a year or so ago and dont have much finished. If they create d3, at the end of the game they should make it so it leads on and so it has to have a sequel. They should have like 10 characters and you should be able to create what he/she looks like and everything. You should be able to have a demon character if your on hells side that would be kick asssss!!!.
sounds good to me, and ya d2 was very repetitive which made it bery boring at times
ya the thing about the demon and angel stuff if u do something really important like kill one of the main guys in hell if ur an angel u get ur wings and they have special powers that would be so badass
