Listen, if blizzard, at a later date adds shaders to the characters, armor, and swords; which by the way is quite possible, you are going to be commenting on how cool and realistic the materials and skin look.
I think that a ton of people are misjudging the style because the materials in the game right now lack any real world qualities. This is due to the fact that there are no shaders in the game.
you know what?you are totally msunderstanding what the art is about!!diablo3 should more be realistic at art style..des that means there should be more ploygon or something??you ganna ***** boku!

For the 4th time, youre putting words in our mouths, no one said we wanted Diablo 3 to be like Witcher, we want some changes in the game in order to make it different, the same level as difference as Starcraft 2 early shots to current shots, not like Witcher, stop putting words in our mouths.
Great post with the comparisons of Blizzard version of Starcraft and Starcraft2 and how the fans helped improve the overall look of the game. I was really happy to see that post because I never seen how starcraft first looked before the fans complained. Same thing with starcraft 2, the improved screenshot looks wayyy better.
One thing you have to consider about the colorful environment in the gameplay demo is that maybe its part of the game to make you understand something? Like say.. they are probably using the beginning part of the game to show how the world changes and as you progress, it will get darker and darker as you move to Act 2, Act 3, etc. Showing you what the evil has done for 20 years. This technique is part of story telling and it helps you understand and give you more immersion towards the game.
Dont get me wrong, I love the more darker edited screen shots of D3 than the D3, WoW like screenshots. I hate WoW's cartoony graphics thats probably why I never got into it. Hopefully blizzard does something about it.

Yeah and I'm saying that if shaders are at some point added to the game it will look more realistic. However I never, in all my years of playing D2 said wow, you know this art looks realistic.
I don't think you understand what I'm trying to say, but thats fine.

the realistic that you said its not the realistic that we've mentioned here!!
the realistic of you,is just about ploygons!!!
the realistic of us,is about art style...as you know....Diablo2 is so old compare with current games which have a high level graphics effect and an accurate calculation physics engine..hower.. these technology could quickly fell behind..At that time noone woud like play the game!!!!but diablo2 is defferent because it have a realistic art style..okay,my conclusion is that, what kind of things could make a game have a long live??not these technology but the arts,diablo2 is a example, there have so many people are stiil play it now..
oh,im still play yoyohukusyo by the way which havent any polygons!

Now, there's also the matter where people may contest as to why Blizzard cannot make Diablo 3 in the same style as Diablo 1 and 2. The quickest and most apt answer is that it might be because Diablo 1 and 2 were not made by Blizzard. They were made at the now-defunct Blizzard North studio, most of whom broke away from Blizzard entirely when the studio was assimilated back into the main HQ and went on to form Flagship Studios, the company that made the floppish title, Hellgate: London. So this means that not only do you have a different set of people working on the game, but the people that originally made the first two games(and even the division from which they hail) no longer exist. So, I've come to the point where I will use previously posted evidence to support my point as to how and why the art style currently is.
Please stop spreading the lies of omgnoes the blizz norths are gone. Only 8 people from blizz north left to form Flagship, of which only David Glenn and Phil Shenk were involved in art design and direction.
Some others left to form Castaway Entertainment and Hyboreal Games. Of the members there, I only know that Michio Okamura was an art designer in the Diablo series. Anyone can feel free to post evidence otherwise, but it wasn't a fact that every artist left or was isolated to Blizzard North.
The art IS nice, the uses of colour and their direction is good... dark as an emotion, i get it. I dont think they need to go back to square one. But, it's too glowy and the textures need refinement or bumpmapping. The blocky orc... err barbarian armor, the cartoony feel. Perhaps all the doodads and environment objects are not in yet but if you look at the starcraft 2 screenshot comparison out there, I think every fan would be happy with that type of modification.

All proper discussion of this kind, whether its defending the art style or going against it, should be directed to MD's thread.
