Hey guys, today I showcase and explain the mechanics of the Arcstone ring. Although it's more of a novelty item (there are simply better rings out there), it's still pretty cool conceptually and does ok damage. Enjoy & discuss!

You had me till "Does OK damage." because it doesn't.
Too bad it didn't do another monster affix like Shielding, Health link, or something with some use.
Considering it appears to tick twice every other second (so averaged to once per second), with some lightning damage stacking and high sheet DPS you should be able to break 100m - which is ok for a ring. The problem IMO is that it doesn't proc enough (should be a constant chain) and is TOO limited by distance. If it was say, 2000%, a constant chain (ticks once/second) and had a range of say 100 yards (a bit under 2 screens), it could be competitive.

So, vastly buffing every aspect of the ring; proc chance, duration, and damage...it might be competitive? And you say the ring is "okay damage?"
It's just not usable; you should be agitating for a complete redesign, or something.
You say it ticks twice every 2 seconds, but I couldn't see 2 high crits at the same time in the video (I might have missed it).
I would expect the "double tick" is once for you, and once for the follower, making only 1 of them useful, since followers have low damage.
To be sure about this, you should try it with 3 or more players, or with the set that calls all your followers. But I would expect it to tick once for everyone using it every 2 seconds.
i'm guessing "okay damage" to you means its competitive. OP clearly is saying it's not. it's decent but not enough. It's a "novelty item" op said. what are you trying to argue about.
Personally I also think the ring needs to be buffed to be competitive but it's an interesting ring concept nevertheless.

My first thought about it was using it with asheara's just for the fun of it.
i dont have the luxury of time to test it though and im not sure if you tackled that already. hopefully they tweak this.
Appreciate the vid, Mik. I was curios how this ring worked.
It appears they made the same error with this ring that they made with Broken Promises. Not enough proc trigger/internal cooldown renders a great concept impotent in compare to other options. Kinda lame, because the work they did on rings in 2.1/2.2 was supposed to present a number of viable options to rorg/SoJ/Unity.
They had some success in doing so, but it appears they half-stepped with a few of these cool ideas.

They 'sort of' did it - Obsidian, F/R, CoE - are all BiS for some builds now. Just not EVERY ring is viable. Broken Promises is just ironic.
If four people equip the ring in group play, the effect should be vastly greater then focus/restraint. Maybe make it scale based on number of players with it equipped or somethng. It's just a terribly designed item.
I like the idea of it being "go-to" in high GR play, but it will need to scale and to beat out Focus/Restraint if four people are wearing it. Maybe each player equipping it increases the damage/duration by 2/3/4x. so it's ticking for 6000% weapon damage every second or something. Could be viable.
To be honest, with Focus & Restraint dominating the ring slots for dps builds, most other rings have been relegated to novelty/niche/farming build status.
ps while rorg previously dominated, at least it offered a way of mixing and matching sets etc, so it offered a gateway to some level of creativity in build designs. As much as I like having such high powered rings I think it is a shame that they leave us with little/no other options. If you are chasing dps, they are really the only option.
Has anyone tested this with Ashearas or with more than 2 people using it? Does each link do the damage? So with Ashearas does it do 3x the damage each pulse because there are 3 links? In a 4 man group with everyone using Ashearas and they are all out at the same time, could it do 15x the damage (all 12 followers and 3 other players)? Does it proc Wyrdward stun?
Isn't the double tic correspondent to each ring? Making the proc go off every 2 seconds (or so)? If this is the case, then why the hell bother making these videos if simple logical design mechanics eludes you?
Since the follower's weapon has a ruby the damage is ok(ish). Has to be tested with Asheara's Vestments though, I've seen people saying it works and some than say it doesn't.
It may scale with number of rings worn, but like I said I don't have 4 rings to try out the 'max' effect. Theoretically you could do something cool with 4 players all with Asheara's which IIRC has ~40% uptime AND all followers with Arcstones, but good luck finding 4 players each with 4 Arcstones willing to test. So to answer your question as to 'why the hell bother', because I want to explain what I know given the gear and availability I have.
Thanks for the feedback Gorok. I will continue looking for additional Arcstones and will test with Asheara's once I have enough pieces to put together. Might be kind of cool.
As you can see the players line in a best case scenario would count to 64 ticks (if my math is right?!) every two seconds. That's player high damage ticks, not counting the ones between followers and other characters around. If we average 50m crits (and your gear is far from optimal for this power) then we get 3,200,000,000 in damage. Let's assume you only have one set of followers active at any given time between a 4 player party, you still get 12 more player lines which counts as 600 mil crits on top of the ones between players, which is another 600 mil.
I imagine the practical damage would be much less than theoretical maximum. As your image demonstrates, it would be hard to position everyone so that all of the arcs are hitting targets. If half of the players were on one side and half on the other, all of your arcs to the players on the same side would really be too short to hit anything.
