Hi, I have both a 60 barb (yeah they suck unless you are ultra rich) and a 60 DH. For now I am playing the DH and liking it alot, however I am stuck on Act2 inferno. I see a lot of topics on people who have 50K dps+++ and I wonder what kind of gear they have. Not concerned about specs as I have one which is pretty standard use for probably most DHs.
Basically I am wanting to see your gear, because at my current gear level I cannot move on Act2, I barely got through the first quest chain, as in I died probably 10 times, avoided all elite packs and just ran like hell.
Here are my stats with no concern for resists;
Dex - 1501
Vit - 551 (total life 22104)
Crit Hit Chance - 11.5%
Crit Hit Dmg - 165%
Dodge - 35%
Resists - random ranging from 95-127
Paper DPS - 29151.78
My Bow is a 2H Bow with the following stats; 989.1 DPS/1.4 Atk spd/each hit adds 422life. I know this isn't the best but it was the best I could afford. Also been rolling Exalted Phatom Bows by salvaging any useless lvl60 items I find while farming, considering they are in the 5-8% drop range for me they are minimal in gold loss by not selling them.
If I put on my resist gear my stats are the following;
Dex - 1131
Vit - 601 (total life 24081)
Crit Hit Chance - 11.5%
Crit Hit Dmg - 50%
Dodge - 31.3%
Resists - All over 300, lowest 303, highest 378.
Paper DPS - 19468.41
I have been farming Act1 inferno for over a week, and have yet to find any upgrades at all. So am I doomed to gold farming to TRY and buy better gear or am I missing something? So if you are a DH with over 50K dps WITHOUT SS can you post shots of your gear so I can see what I should be shooting for? I think I have a general idea but just seems like I am stuck atm hard.
My Dh has about 46k dps w/o ShSh. I'm too lazy to show screen shots, but the gist of my gear is as much dex as I can find, and a lot of IAS. I've got two rings with 15%IAS, one with only 65 dex the other over 100 dex because of a socket. I also bought a cheap blue ammy with 108 dex and 15%ias, and I got lucky on some 75 dex, 15%IAS, 3% crit chance gloves. I bought Promise of glory bracers for pretty cheap with 164 dex and 3% crit, and found some boots with 194 dex.
The whole point is forget about resis, and go full dps. Sometime in the future with the inferno nerfs it might be possible to go shield / 1 hander and vita / all resis gear, but atm it works much better for me to just be made of paper.
get a good amount of IAS though, and then look for dex. After that crit and crit dmg, but ias / dex should be your first priority.
It isn't about what type of gear you should shoot for, it's about whether you can afford it or not. Increasing dps is a certainty the longer you play as you farm more and more gold. Your problem right now is that you can't afford some of the higher end stuff. knowing what other demon hunters are wearing won't really help you because the ones with 50k+ dps are wearing stuff you can't afford anyways. That said, if you want more dps you just focus on the traditional suspects of ias/dex/crit%/crit damage. How important each stat is depends on what skills you use and your play style.
Also,29k dps in act 2 inferno is exactly where you should be. I think i had slightly less when i beat act 1. You are supposed to die a lot -- this is normal. The only difference between demon hunters and everyone else is that we can still make progress while dying.
The only problem is when they change the repair costs, then progressing in that fashion will not be worth it. Lets hope the dmg reduction to act2-4 in inferno is enough we are like suicide bombers on every pack.
Alot of it is itemization.. what otheres have said holds true as well.. its expensive.
You want crit, and few peices have it.
for example, I have 24.5% crit -- I have 7% on my quiver (and +10 max disc), but it doesn't have +elemental arrow dmg.. which would cost me about 15 mil.
Another 8.5% on gloves -- I bought gloves for 5 mil -- 120+dex, 60 vita, 35 resist all, 13% ias, and the 8.5 crit. (and +3k from health orbs)
2% on some 90 dex and +other crap bracers..
4% on my legendary neck (just got it, was a dps DOWNGRADE from the 130dex, 55% crit dmg blue neck that I found for myself... but it has life on hit, vita, and resist all.. helps vs reflect dmg packs
Keep in mind about all these stats, they all play off eachother...
if you have higher crit, then more crit dmg boosts your dmg MORE per point then before.. etc.
BIGGEST dps increase you will get is from getting the right itemization on your weapon.
You NEED a 2h xbow (a 2h bow will suffice until you get more crit) WITH a socket, it MUST have a socket.. Failing a socket, it must have at LEAST 60% crit dmg, as well as having a high dps number at the top.
example: a 957 dps bow , versus a 850 dps bow, with a socket -- which does more dmg? .. for me its the socket one because of the higher crit I have....
My main advice.. dont despair, yes its a gold farming nightmare, but every so often I still find an upgrade in act 1... and slowly work on buying the gear you need to live and do dps.
Some specific item advice:
Your quiver MUST have +8-10 max disc, this is needed to live.
- It should also have +crit OR +elemental arrow dmg OR +hungering arrow dmg.
- Bonuses if it has all 3//and +dex, but this is very expensive
- The IAS on it almost doesn't matter.
Your gloves And/Or Neck MUST have IAS on it,
- It should have +crit OR +crit dmg on it as well (it can have both +IAS, but again, this is VERY expensive)
- It should have a good amount of dex, Ideally 150+, but this adds cost.. if you can get 100+ for MUCH cheaper, do it.
Shoulders/Belt -- There are very few uniques or specials that work for these slots -- Theoretically you can use 2p Inna's set (belt and Legs).. but its kinda /bleh
- Aim for as high dex as you can on these 2 slots, the other itemization does not *really* matter
- I went for +vita, +resistall as my required other 2 stats, and then looked for +Picradi, +Liferegen
The only problem is when they change the repair costs, then progressing in that fashion will not be worth it. Lets hope the dmg reduction to act2-4 in inferno is enough we are like suicide bombers on every pack.
The repair cost will only affect glass cannons without good gear yet or that arent really playing well. I do full second heart/azmo run and i average half a death per run with 22k hp and 200 resist. However im sporting 98k dps without sharpshooter, which i dropped because my crit is 49% while on my claptrop, meaning i never have any benifit from it in the first place and well night stalker with that kind of crit rating sometime keeps my Dicipline so high i can ss 5-6 hell 7 times without the use of prep.
Note that they are reducing monster hp as well. Im already destroying most elite packs in 2-3 smoke screen, depending on their affix of course. How much the nerfs gona be? Anything significant and it will be even more a cake walk. Gear makes both surv and glass cannon work. Glass cannon is simply faster and much, much less expensive.
I didn't think I was above 50k without SS but I guess I am right at that mark. This is the stats I'm currently running and I'm able to do Act 2 fairly quickly (with the exception of invulnerable minions). When I first cleared 2, I was about 33k without SS but I was running on nothing but smoke screen surviveability.
At this mark I cleared Act 3, but it was just mashing my face against the keyboard dying through the spiral staircase to finish the act. I definitely want to up my crit and resistances before I go mash my face against Rakanoth some more (even though the resistances won't matter). Just tired of farming currently (the randomness gods started out loving me early in inferno but have dropped off now) and been leveling other characters.
I love post like these, they give me hard-ons.
88k dps DH here (no ss duh) and i clear act 3 seigbreaker/fortifide bunker runs (chest 5 stack and boss kill) in about 45 mins.
I melt shit. No joke. And it wasnt hard either.
From what I saw of your gear/stats, you need to get some IAS legendarys, atleast the helm...think it is called something vissage. Solid upgrade there
But most of all you need to maintain the xbow ( I have a bow, but i also have alot of base crit dmg on my gear keeping me at 150%+) WITH socket WITH emerald WITH 1k+dps and after that....crit chance...atleast 25%...
....and you dont need all that health, you are a DH. Learn to smokescreen.
I'll be completely honest. Act 2 is just plain stupid. If you're aiming to progress through it, however (and not just run like a Kenyan through the entire Act), then you should be looking into going full glass cannon. Your "resist" gear is absolutely nowhere near what is needed to successfully utilize the Shadow Power gear/spec. At this point in time for your gear (and assuming your DH is your alt and probably don't want to drop 10mil+ gold on him right now), here are a couple of helping points.
*Act 2 sucks, get through it and don't ever look back.
*Ignore most survival attributes (this includes vitality, % life, resists, etc), at this time you will still pretty much get one-shot by anything with 24k health regardless
*When looking for a bow or xbow, you are not looking for IAS on the weapon itself.
*Use the cookie cutter "blow shit up" spec. Hungering Arrow - Devouring Arrow, Elemental Arrow - Nether Tentacles, Smoke Screen - Lingering Fog, Preparation - Backup Plan, Rain of Vengeance - Stampede/Flying Rain (personal preference), Caltrops - Jagged Spikes (personal preference again), Sharpshooter - Passive, Archery - Passive, Steady Aim - Passive.
*Also if you wish, you can drop Sharpshooter for Tactical Advantage.
If there is any additional or specific mob help I can provide, please feel free to ask.
Took the adivce and ramped up my IAS, just doing that and some dex got me to 37k dps paper doll no SS. Gonna keep with the advice here and ramp up as i can from the AH.
All-in-all I found that very useful, however this part of it I don't find necessary if you're willing to go vault as one of your, for lack of a better word due to brainfart, buttons. I've farmed quite well just by vaulting 2-3 times away then shooting, even cuts down on usage of SS except in "OH SHIT" moments when you're surrounded and not sure how to get out. That's just my 2cents, and a lot of it is play style of a particular DH. There's really no wrong way to play as long as you go hard on what you're looking for. Most of the gear you said though is right on point, but a lot of it was a bit closer to BiS than what he could afford. Personally I went Blue for a lot of different things to add IAS and Dex on different items. Just to be stronger. Given I haven't put in a lot of work to look for blues lately and have been content with what I have.

The #1 thing you want is a good weapon. It'll give you the largest DPS upgrade by a long shot at any point in time. Try to save up 2-5 mil and then browse the 2H listings for a deal. If you can get something over 1200 DPS (or ~1kish with a socket, check the spreadsheet), grab it.
From that point you want, in no particular order, Dex, Crit Hit/Damage and IAS. Building for tanky-ness is up to you, but I don't recommend it. When it comes to IAS, we don't know how the change is going to go through so I mostly ignore it for now. I doubt IAS will become useless, so gear with it should be fine.
Don't check DPS with Sharpshooter on. Upgrade your weakest items first. Get movement speed boots, they help a ton for certain mob types. I also wouldn't recommending buying 'OK' items. Once you hit 40k DPS or so, upgrades get costly. Save up multiple millions and buy one amazing piece, and do that for every slot.
I actually completed Act 2 with 47k dps WITH sharpshooter, 360 resist all, 28k hp. Nothing could one shot me with this set up including elites/mortar which allows a margin of player error when kiting so you don't die.

You can finish the entire game on Inferno as a glass cannon with 30k DPS non-SS. At the high end I don't think survivability is worth it, you lose too much DPS for too little survival gains.
Just wait till you try to solo in act 4, you can have 400k dps and still get one shot, repeatedly
My advice is there's not point in trying to solo act 2-4, buy staff of herding and farm. If you don't have enough farm public butcher till you have enough.
I was a glass cannon build but I felt like I died ALL the time. Invisible naga's and such land one hit on you and you are dead. That's not very fun in my book when you get elites that are mortar/frozen/reflect damage/fast etc on already annoying mob types and you end up skipping elites because you can't survive. He is obviously tired of dying so saying Burn it before you die doesn't help in Act 2. Not saying go full tank spec but it makes a world of difference to be able to take just 1 hit.

so you can die to the second hit?
