Today, when I was fighting the SK, I noticed something strange: when I used haunt (which now does 360% weapon damage), I was only hitting about 3-5 damage per second. However, when I switched to Poison Dart (100% weapon damage) I was finally hitting around 13-17 damage, and my current weapon does 17.2.
Am I looking at the damage values of Haunt incorrectly? Or am I missing something? I would think that 360% weapon damage would hit higher than 100% with Poison Dart. If anyone is able to clarify this to me it would be appreciated.

So, I assume it goes like this. Haunt is 350% weapon damg, but Poison Dart I assuem you have the rune "Splinters" that "Shoot 3 darts at once that deal 70% weapon damage as Poison each." combine with the default poison darts damg. "Shoot a deadly poison dart that deals 100%weapon damage as Poison and an additional80% weapon damage as Poison over 2 seconds." Therefore, with each dot you are doing 750% weapon damg.

Actually, Splinters removes the DoT component of the spell. It replaces the old mechanic of the ability completely to give you 3 shots instead of one.
Quick edit: The DoT for dart also does not stack, it only refreshes.

Fine I will tell ya, Haunt sucks! OK? Is that what you wanted to hear? Fucking sucks!

Actually, if runed for damage (Resentful Spirit) its the second best single target spell Witch Doctors have as far as weapon damage % per mana I believe. Beaten only by Poison Darts' Splinter effect.
Of course, if you're using either for their efficiency, I'd say Haunt is vastly superior in that you can have as many applications of it active at a time as you want.

Its crap. If we are going to aoe, then single target spells suck. If we are doing single target then the dmg of haunt isn't all that amazing compared to other spells, so why waste the slot?
So yes its just fucking sucks.

1. Ah yes because every AOE "situation" you'll be in you'll be able to utilize all the other skills WD has that pass through environment "objects" just like Haunt.
2. Actually, considering Haunt's extremely low cost, the ideal single target "rotation" would most likely be spamming Spirit Barrage. Then when you go oom, keeping Haunts rolling while spamming Splintered darts. For the virtually nonexistent mana cost Haunt has, theres literally no reason not to use it in a boss type situation. Also important to note, if said boss situation involves moving, then its value increases even further.
3. Lastly, if you want to be taken seriously, you might want to actually give "proof" of why what you think is (or could be) correct. Spouting expletives pretty much makes you look like a tool too.
Says the dude who thinks yo are supposed to adds %additional dmg to %wpn dmg.
I already told you the reason...its not good for aoe, and its not worth it in single target to waste a spot. Haunt is shit, and everyone knows it, except maybe you.

Prove that thats not how the damage is calculated. Oh...you can't? K. Oh. And good job staying relevant to the topic at hand. You nailed that one too. Oh wait, you purposefully redirected because you couldn't come up with a rebuttal to what I said in my last post. Gotcha.
You keep thinking skills which serve clear purposes are shit. I'll keep thinking what I do. In the end, I'll be making money and finishing up Inferno when you're still struggling in Hell. If you don't believe me, feel free to PM me your battletag and I'll add you come release.

#1 Common fucking sense. You only add like terms. 2x + 3y =/= 5x
#2 Common fucking sense. Adding additional % dmg to wpn dmg would have massive effect on skills with low %wpn dmg, and miniscule effects on high dmg abilities. Some abilities have very low dmg, like hydra, but overall do a massive amount of dmg. If this was additive, hydra would be stupidly OP.
#3 Common fucking sense. It says an additional % to dmg.
#4 Glass cannon and magic weapon and + attack and +intellect have all been tested, and proven to work as multiplicative effects.
Seriously you must of dropped out of school at the 7th grade.

What a dumb statement. I will beat you to inferno, and while I am making pocket change, you will still be in hell. HAHA
And maybe thats true...but guess what? HAUNT STILL SUCKS ASS!!! LOL

I guess I was the naive one to think that the "community" over here was more mature than the official forums.
I guess you have, after all, proven me wrong about something.
Oh, and your "argument" that haunt sucks? Its meaningless unless you can "prove" it, unfortunately you've so far displayed an inability to do so. You've pretty much displayed an inability to do much of anything. One could argue based on that, that so far you've been useless to this thread.

edit: logic is fun
It would be hard or at least tiring to mathematically prove that haunt is crap. Anyone who understood that would already know haunt sucks, but seeing as you don't then you probably wouldn't be able to understand or accept it anyways. So in the end I would just be wasting my time.
Just think of this sort of like global warming and evolution. Don't bother thinking about the validity of it, rather just accept that some really smart people already figured this shit out for you and that you should just accept it.

How to judge haunt sucks. Cast haunt on SK in beta. Watch 1-2 dmg ticks. Watch Every single other ability hit/tick for 10+
Fact: Haunt is underpowered to the point of being basically useless unless used in an incredibly long term fight. Even still, you could use better abilities with bigger damage output instead of haunt.
