I don't know if these are the only ones, maybe there are rares/crafted ones as well, but it never occurred to me to use a ranged weapon on a WD. Could be cool with the new ability-scaling-to-weapon-damage system they're coming out with.

I have my own reasons to drink, I think I'll call my Dad up and invite him.
I saw hot shot for the first time a few minutes ago, oddly enough. I said to myself, "What the hell!"
At first I thought it must be an error, but I don't think it is.
Overall I like it. The more I think about it, the more I wonder what other strange items like these are out there for other classes. It promotes diversity among characters, I guess, which makes me all the more excited to look out for interesting combos in the future.
And like you've said, the new skill system with items promote such strange, but interesting builds.
And with spells being based off weapon damage it really doesn't matter what style of weapon you have, as long it equips and has good damage. Not like WD will be doing much regular attacking, even if it's a bow. I think it's mainly to show off the item. Like, "whoa, that WD has a CRAZY bow! he must be baller!"

Spells are based off the actual spell + Your ATTACK stat... not weapon dmg

well thats retarded for casters, but we dont know the % yet so for casters it could be negligible
Yeah, casters with 2H axes and maces sounds a bit iffy to me as well. That being said, I don't think they're done implementing it fully, and no one has mentioned if any restrictions have/will be placed on it. They could very well say that Witch Doctors can only use daggers/staves/bows, who knows?

No your quite wrong on that 2, The percents (while not set in stone), have been made to some classes along with the DH changes. They haven't been implemented into the beta yet, but the D3 community site has the changes on the skills, and the skill calculators.

Went outside today, the graphics were ok. But the gameplay sucked
I love the idea of ranged mana steal, especially with a class like the Witch Doctor. Cast a wall of frogs and zombies, then stand behind them regenerating to do it again.

i like this idea for farming plus the migic find is sweet on the lvl 60 bow
They've already said that every class can use every weapon, with a few exceptions. Barbarians and their mighty weapons, WDs and their ceremonial knives, DHs and their dual crossbows, to name a few.

Nah, I don't think the option to wield weapons would effect caster's weapon choices all that much. If you look at the daggers and wands, many of them (especially the legendaries) carry +damage to witch doctor/wizards only.
I think they designed it specifically this way so that they'd still be able to compete with their class weapons, and so the items would stay desirable throughout.
EVERY ITEM ON THE WEBSITE SHOULDNT BE TAKEN AT FACE VALUE, BUT MERELY AS A PLACE HOLDER OR A GLIMPSE INTO WHAT MAY BE AVAILABLE IN THE RELEASED GAME!!!!!
I think that the weapon based damage is a stop gap measure. for now it will work, however I think its something that will be changed either in a patch or as a major change in an expansion if weapon damage remains for release.
As for Docs not attacking in melee...I Think that an auto attacking Doc has a lot of potential to be viable. Get a pet or 4, increase damage you do and monsters receive (soul harvest, big bad voodoo, hex) and prevent them from targeting you (horrify, confuse) and you could easily make this an option that might work.

If that made sense to you, Bravo! I think I even confused myself...
About this two=-handed weapon vs. caster weapon discussion.
Damage skills will very likely be "normalised" (like in WoW). Wich mena sit will take in condideration not only the weapon damage, but the dps during a few seconds.
All weapons will very likely have the exect same DPS. The mods will surely be the deciding factor.

They have their skill pages updated with the spell-damage/weapon-dps changes tho >> Witch Doctor Skill Calculator
