Spirit Spenders Exploding Palm:
From a strict usability standpoint, we think the visuals for Exploding Palm can be a little difficult to interpret. It's hard to tell who's affected by the Bleed and who's being damaged by the resulting explosion. Our Visual Effects team has made some improvements in 1.0.4 which will make it easier for players to tell who's bleeding and who's getting damaged.
From a mechanics standpoint, the three-second Bleed can make the explosion hard to pull off, and the damage just doesn't seem enough to be worth the Spirit cost. To help with both of these issues, we’re increasing the duration of the Bleed to nine seconds as well as its damage per second, which should make it more likely that monsters you’ve touched with Exploding Palm will go boomwhen they die.
Current: 220% weapon damage over 3 seconds 1.0.4: 745% weapon damage over 9 seconds
(Don't worry, Impending Doom is also having its duration increased to 15 seconds.)
Just had to post this... one of my favorite skills to use pre-Inferno makes a comeback.
Don't know which skill to bump for it, or how it will play out effectively, if at all, with the way I like to play, but DAMN this is one of the things I was looking forward to with 1.0.4.
With elites it should work wonders if you focus all your damage on a single target. When the monster is 50% health, drop EP, kill the dude and watch hilarity ensue.
Well from a dmg per spirit standpoint it's a lot better off. But it's really only 73% dmg vs 83% dmg per second.
That being said it will be much more attractive with a 2 hander. I could definitely see some exploding palm, insert favorite generator, and finish with SSS 2 hand action.

Dude, for the same spirit cost, it now does 10% more damage per second for 6 more seconds. It is a hell of an improvement, which also gives you a much bigger window of opportunity to kill the bleeding mob and make it go boom.
Ever since I reached Act 2, the only skills I ever swap are Mantras, and only between MoC (MF runs) and MoE (progression). Since finishing the game, I haven't touched my skill bar. That's not to say skills haven't been tested, but everything was just meh.
Now it seems I have a contender for my right-click.
Well i dont have the game,i was going to buy it in november but after what i saw in patches 1.01,1.02 and 1.03,i thought well maybe i should not buy this game after all(Cause i still cant say whether the game's good or not cause i dont have it). But after patch 1.04,when my fav the monk is becoming what it was meant to become in the first place i thought man i a going to buy this game.
And when i saw the buffs to my all 3 fav skills(WOL,SSS,EP) i thought am i going to buy this game??? HELL YEAH!!!!
Oh and btw about exploding palm, now the duration is 9 sec,i think a strategy may work for it in co-op games.
The monk uses EP with the rune that gives+5 spirit with each monster hit.He goes into a group applies exploding palm and rushes off to another group, while the DPSers of the party hit that monster hard and kill it and manage to hit atleast 4 enemies.
Now the monk who is fighting group 2(Preferably with another melee guy) must have managed to get atleast 4 hits off, gaining 24 spirit. And when the monster from the first group dies hitting atleast 4 monsters, the monk gets +20 spirit. He applies EP again on a monster of the second group(cos now he has 40 spirit) and he and the melee guy rush off to group 1(now weakened) to finish them off and the DPSers hit the monster with EP on it again and the monster dies.
Now group 2(weakened) will follow monk and melee guy while they finish off group 1 and te DPSers wreak havoc on them.Dont forget that i am not even taking into account cc and defensive ailities, which help in survival. This could help the party a lot
On the other hand,i dont have the game so my strategy may turn out to be entirely idiotic

I'm seeing much potential for X-palm/SSS builds. I hated leaving X-Palm back in Hell mode. I was just starting to become proficient with it but it was too awkward for the serious shit.

Do you not understand what you quoted. My point is for a dual wield build where spirit isn't as much of an issue, cyclone is going to be more damage with 100% up time on MoC.
However, for a 2 hand build which favors DoT, cooldowns and good Dmg per spirit it's very viable.
I just gotta say, after getting my very first paragon level, that EP has made the game fun for me again. I'm even farming!
I switched out Blinding Flash for it, still testing out runes, but it is immensely powerful, as it was supposed to be. 9 seconds is a freaking lifetime against elites.
Am I the only one that thinks EP is still a bad joke compared to Barb's cleave/rupture?
Monks apply the debuff manually one target at a time for explode on death.
Barbs with cleave/rupture explodes anything in a forward arc with killing blows - with primary attack.
Uhh... you do realize the difference between the skills? EP explosions are based on the targets HP, while Cleave is based on your own dmg. Against elites, it should be rather obvious which one is the superior skill. There's a reason no barbs use cleave in Inferno.
EP + Wave of Light with the reduced spirit cost has been working wonders for me in Acts 2 & 3. If you pick up Exalted Soul and a spirit generator that gives extra on critical hits the spirit generation is hardly an issue. With the reduced monster damage 3 defensive passives isn't as critical as before. If you can afford to drop an additional heal, EP, WOL, and SW can work wonders.
Haven't tried it with SSS yet, but I can vouch for its efficiency when combined with a SW build. I am definitely killing elites faster with it, using the same cookie cutter Thunderclap+Cyclones combo, with the added effect of EP.
Less crowd control is an issue, especially in Act 3. But hey, at least i'm trying out new builds!

The biggest down side is still that the explosion only works on death. So that part of the ability is worthless on a boss and limited on elite packs.
That said, i can't wait to see an elite explode for huge damage numbers.

Gonna try this build next, 'cause EP made me realize I used to like using a lot of other monk skills... http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/monk#afVgXk!UXY!aZbYba
