Hard to tell how to upgrade your weapons. Things like playstyle, personal preferences and what kind of current gearset/stats/build u r running making a huge difference.
Here is my approch for upgrading weapons:
- LoH is overrated and overprized! I dont bother with LoH at all.
- Never buy a weapon cuz there is vit on it. Get the amount of vit from the rest of your gear. Makes it way easier to replace the weapon later on.
- Think twice what u want and compare items with a dps calculator
- If your crit chance isnt that high dont bother buying a weapopn with crit dmg and open soket. The dps gain isnt that high in the end and wont be worth the crazy amount of gold.
- If u dont pay attention to the current active weapon and running a sw/cyclone build dont use a low dps statholder weapon as your offhand. In the end u will loose dmg.
Im always aiming for weapons with:
- At least 100 dex on em - I prefer +175 dex. Depending on your dex on gear those is worth up to 100 weapon dps. In my case its worth like 70 weapon dps.
- I want either +90 crit dmg or open socket on my weapons. I cant afford a weapon with crit dmg and open socket at the moment. At least one with decent dps.
- LL is nice to have but not a must have. For me its easier to deal with reflect/electrified affix combos. And its way cheaper then loh.
I have my weapons posted a page back or so, I still cannot let go of the LoH on my weapon.. cant imagine how I can survive
Im so glad i found this post this morning, I have been struggling and getting frustrated with trying to do act 3 and playing the auction house to try and get good gear cheap and flip my old gear. I have done ok i havent lost money yet but i still cant do act 3. But with all the information from this thread on what stats to look for on which items etc I think i can start doing better in my upgrade searches. I have been making several foolish mistakes just seeing peoples stats posted like oh he farms act 3 and has 25k health i should slack off on the vit or oh his dex is lower than mine i should slack on dex etc.

I have had D3 since launch and only played my monk and he has like maybe 70 hours played. so all this information is so valuable to making every minute of my play time count.
Im bidding on a 1k dps axe with slot and 100 dex, Im not sure how I can survive with out LoH or Lifeleech but its gonna be one expensive mispurchase if I end up having a harder time..
Hey, read a lot of threads here and ive thought about creating one myself with regards to item upgrades. Now that character profiles are live, its a lot easier to share, compare and the people giving advise can also link their profile. Since this thread is already here with some great advise, I thought perhaps I could get some help as well :-)
Now I'im on the EU servers, and I've spent a lot of time searching the AH and farming. I have 330% with 5NV when I swap items before kills. Ive found some 1k weapons, but barely anything with decent stats.
I find it very hard to find any decent helms and rings on the AH/RMAH which doesnt cost 50€++ or 50mill gold+.. Perhaps if 1.04 brings more search options it will be easier to use the ah.

Anyway, what items do you think I should upgrade first? I think I should get about 10k more life and 150 more resist. Then bring my LOH up to 1k. A3 farming works fine except for molten shielding vortex packs which require a few deaths... Its not that hard to get more LOH, but it will mean sacrificing dex/vit on weapons. I also think I should upgrade at least one of the rings, but also finding a ring eith decent dex, crit / IAS with some additional stats, such as +life isnt cheap.

20,5% crit chance
105% crit hit dmg.
1,87% IAS
