As scheduled, Blizzard has released the a new armor set. This time it is the female Wizard featured in a red plate mail armor. It is interesting to see how something as "heavy" as plate mail we be worn by someone of a lighter feel. Keep in mind that every class will be able to wear every type of armor. While still keeping the plate mail, they have also incorporated the robes of the wizard keeping its unique look to the class.

Our armor preview continues today with a behind-the-scenes look at the female wizard sporting a red plate mail set. And keep in mind if you don't happen to like that shade of red, it can drop in any number of colors, or be customized to your liking through the dye system. Thursday we'll be previewing a set worn by the female barbarian, so check back.
UPDATE:
A bit more info, this particular plate mail is the armor we will be finding near the end of normal.

Sick armor, I really like how all classes can wear all types of armor. it gave the designers a real challenge and I think they did well with this wizard plate, but the barbarian plate on thursday should be TITTIES!
I'm not sure I really like it...Although, I don't really like the Wizard that much either.

That looks absolutely awesome. It doesn't need green light and rainbows shooting out of it to look cool: it's detailed, variated, and unique. Some of it's dysfunctional, but the same could be said for the appearance of set items on our "sprites" in Diablo II, and, besides that, the focus of sets is to be powerful while looking aesthetically awesome. I believe it accomplishes both without sacrificing that level of reality that we like to keep with the series.
The thing on her right shoulder could be for holding her globe thing. That just occurred to me. Of course, it probably wouldn't actually function like that in-game. Just as guess.
Edit~
Oh, wait, she has them on both arms. I'd guess they're just for deflecting blows, then.
haha i wouldnt mind if blizzard would make some funny armors. like for example take this wizard here. its plate mail but still she looks like and flexible.
I wouldnt mind maybe a armor set thats unique or like the diablo 2 set items where it makes the wizard have the armor set of lets say a full out barbarian. haha
just a wizard in freaking armor. but you cant move at all. hahahaha.
I do like tomagabriel's idea. The idea of tilting the facemask upwards, or totally taking off while in town, and then when you exit town or go into a portal, without restricting any movement, a brief slip on of a mask or helmet to signify your character is ready to battle the evil world filled with Diablo's minions. Keep in mind this is only late lvl 20 armor that we are seeing, so if the lvl cap is 60, should double in awesomeness and detail.
The kind of helmet you can slide up during non-combat and then down during combat.
In Diablo 1 at later stages (i think plate mail) you held your helmet in your hands in town and wore it in the dungeons. Would be awesome to have the same thing happen in Diablo III.

PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.

Yea I liked how that looked in D1. It would be cool if they did that in D3 just had the helm on the side. Could be an option

I like this set. I love the way that in Diablo, sets doesn't have to be "über-fancy" just to be cool. This is very basic, but yet nice looking. Wizard is currently in my plans for first character and this did not disappoint me :).

Not because I don't like the armor, just because I think it would be more entertaining that way.

I think that's the reason, remember that all items are designed to be seen from the isometric perspective.
As it should be
