In wow mages, warlocks, priests and druids never used their weapons, they stayed on their backs, and no one cried about it, because they weren't suppose to use them.
Think of the monk in the same way, ALL (correct me if I'm wrong) of his abilities use his limbs, not his weapons. Even the names and icons of his abilities show fists.
I will give you this:
If anything, his weapons should stay sheathed at all times, and not pop in and out of his hands, that is plain stupid.
Not to mention he cites WoW as his example like that should make anyone feel better about it.
What I don't get is there is already an animation for the monk swinging his staff. And there are already the animated effects for abilities like Deadly Reach. Monk swings staff, you see the effects of Deadly Reach. What's not obvious about that?
Why does everyone refer to WoW for a diablo example? lolz the games are totally different in playstyle, theme and genre. Sometimes I wonder with these forums.. are we to support diablo or not.

Thank you for comparing casters to a melee class. You win.
And why can't a skill called 'Deadly Reach' use a staff instead of a fist? Where does it say 'Deadly Hand Reach'? Lashing Tail Kick? Sure. But, as you said, 'ALL monk skills? No, don't be silly.
Please try and stay mature.
And what do you mean by "Why can't a skill called 'Deadly Reach' use a staff instead of a fist?", Because this class is a martial artist, that uses his body as a weapon, punches, kicks, exploding palms, didn't you ever watch a ninja movie? I think of him as a Shaolin monk. Sure they can a use a weapon, but they don't need it, they just kick you in the face.
And that's what (I think) Blizzard went for here. Don't be close minded to think that every class in the history of games should follow the same patterns. I for one, am glad they went astray from the normal conventions of a melee class.

I compared it to wow because both games are fantasy themed, class based games from the same creators.
It's not suppose to make you feel good, it's just so I'll have an example for a popular game.

Talking about martial artists and escpecially about ones that know how to use weapons (shaolin monks?). Why WOULDNT you use your weapon if you know how to use it? Isnt fighting with a weapon as a martial artist always better then fighting bare handed if you know how to do both? Just imagine a shaolin with a staff... they know how to use it... so why wouldnt he? It gives him better reach for the fight...
So I dont see that argument as valid. Also if Blizzard really wants us to fight barehanded they could simply give the Monk no weapons... but they give him the weapons... so yeah I guess they want him to use them.
Also if you look at the animation right now the Monk isnt a Monk but a Wizard with the teleport skill... he frequently teleports his weapons out of his hand xD It just looks dumb as is.
Overall I would be satisfied with an animation that just lets the weapons stay at his back/waist... it would look way better then what we have right now <_<
If you'll go back to my original post I said that if it would just stay sheathed then all will be peaceful in the world.
But other then that, yeah I see what you're saying. Good point.

They're not that different.

An class shouldn't be able to euip a weapon it does not have animations. Monks should use claws / staves only.
