it ran across my mind while looking for some upgrades on the AH...
I can very rarely find an upgrade on the AH, because my first search unless for a weapon is All Resist... and if your searching for All Resist + Strength + Vitality, the only things you can find at a decent price is stuff with high Amounts of either Strength or Vitaity, but always seem to be low on the other vital stat... and once you start to look for items with Crit Damage or Crit chance, then it gets 100 times worse in price...
My question is at what point can you stop looking for so much resist... I am talking about keeping about 200 resist so we would get 300 with warcry, making it easier to upgrade damage...
How much armor would we need? I could easily get 13000 Armor and increase my damage quite a bit while leaving myself about 300 Resist...
How much HP would I need to do this? How much Health would we need to be able to rely on Revenge or Furious Charge to Heal us since they are based on % of Max life...
If we have 60-80k life with 13000 armor and 300 Resist would we be able to survive just as easily as if we had 700 or so resist unbuffed with 40k health and 9.5k armor... keep in mind that with all these changes my damage output would increase from about 20k to about 50-75k,
I went thru about 30m gold trying to get resist gear and now I am stuck, I have about 700 resist but just a little over 20k dps. Any upgrades I have tried to get to increase my damage output would either...
a)Decrease my HP
b)Decrease my Resist
c)Decrease my Armor...
and I am already having trouble staying alive long enough to pick away champ packs...
Not to mention I would like to soon add MF gear to my character... What do you think?
As a WW barb I try and keep 700-800 All resist. As a tank barb you want 900+. Remember, int gives some AR so calculate that if a piece has some on it. You get a lot of AR on shoulders, boots, chest, legs, and shield for fairly cheap.
75 str/75vit 60 ar boots aren't good too low strength, nothing more then decent. Boots can get 200 strength maximum, wouldn't call them good unless they have well over 100 strength at least.
On topic keep your resists until you overgear the act you're doing and can blow up champ packs within 1 WotB. 30k dps should be enough for most champ packs in act3 more helps of course (assuming you're in act3 with that kind of gold spend). I like my setup of 1k resists 9,5k armor, 50k hp and 31k dps, upgrades are getting expensive if I want to keep my defenses high but that's normal. Most pieces of gear are around 3 Mil and upgrades easily costing 5-10 Mil for me atm.
You can go for lower resists but 300 just doesn't cut it unless you're just doing act1. I'd say stick with 700-800 resists and just slowly upgrade your gear. Only tip I can give is that life per second is fairly cheap on the AH and if you get a fair amount on chest/legs/boots it's really noticeable for your survivability.
The point is, get high str/vit on some pieces, and lower stats w/ more AR on others. You can get cheap high str high vit shoulders, and decent balanced boots. I'm assuming this guy is asking because he's poor, and that's the best way to do it.
Personally for boots I have a great pair of sage seekers but a good pair of those costs a few mil (good firewalkers are better, but cost a lot more).
i buy stuff with +armor and either fire or physical resist
oh and most useless resist is arcane, even with 1.5k arcane you're still going to die quickly to a arcane beam
This.
I have just lvld up a barb. I geared out from this philosphy:
I sure want all res, armor, str and vita (for items that doesn't have crit). But that's too expensive for most. So i had to prioritize. Shoulders and belts can have up to 300 strenght. So I would want over 200 str on these pieces. At the same time, chest and pants can have up to 300 vita.. AND sockets. So you can get ALOT of str and vita from the pants. So i figured out I'd prioritize vita and str. And drop all res on the chest and pants and rather add fire/phys res and armor - if it's available. And then i sacked vita on belt and shoulders and got alot of str and dual resists (fire/phys + all res). I would guess many orders have geared their barbs in this, rather cheap, way.
You can always get some gear that is missing str / vit and make it up somewhere else, if gear is becoming to expensive.
This, bought ~160 str ~100vit ~4.5 crit and 20 MF bracers for couple mils. Comparable once with resist all on top of mentioned stats were priced more then half of my gear alltogether. If you alternate stats between gear slots you can achieve decent result for low price and from there on just upgrade slot by slot.
For belt and shoulder try to get all resist, one element resist and str ( up to 300) if possible get some vit but is not priority. Next is pant and chest try to get all resist, one element resist and vit ( up to 300) same theory as belt and shoulder, and also tried to find socket (2 and 3) on them
And as for the rest, since their max is 200 for either str or vit is up to you and also ur luck to find them on ah.
I was once like u... can't upgrade anything without spending 20m+ on individual gear and was struck for a moment.
