So, I play a tank barb(LOL). 970-1100 all resist with 11k damage, 9k armor and 49k health. This was my first chance to hop into act 3 alone and give it a go. I did just fine until I got 5 stacks and came across a pack of normal(trash mob) Swift Skull Cleavers... bout 10 of them got surrounded and 3-4 shot before I could do anything. I walked around the next corner to find a Swift Skull Cleaver champ pack with Arcane Enchanted, Vortex, Desecrator, and Illusionist. I was curious if anyone has any tips as to how to kill this pack as a barb, I was in the keep depths level 2 and couldnt corner a few of them to chunk em down. I don't have any LoH atm but I plan on getting a pretty nice wep with lots of it soon. They killed me so fast and I spent 50k gold and 25 min trying to kill them without any success.
P.S. I have like 23% chance to block with a helm of command. Stuff I put on the AH doesnt like to sell and I may be over pricing but I usually spend the gold I make fast so getting a lot of money for a good 1h with lots of LoH may be difficult :/ ( PLEASE HALP!!! )
Well, I'm a barb tank with 950-1100 res to all, 8.8k dps, 10k armor (with the enchantress), 52k life, 34% block. I normally handle such packs by going all out bersker/EQ then kiting then nuking again and they are usually dead by then. I'm just constantly moving and spamming revenge. I do agree that the skull cleavers are pretty nasty though.
guys what you do when you encounter extra health pack? you fight them for 1 hour? lol i have more dps i hell
600 AR, 7k armor, 50k is more than enough to farm a3
Well, I burn extra health to about 50% of their life when popping my CDs the first time. It depends on the type of mobs of course. If they are ranged they tend to run all over the place so that prolongs the encounter. I also 1-shot siegebreaker np with my 8.8k dps. I generally find it a lot easier to farm act III by myself with my low dps than having a friend with say 60k dps join me.
I can't Lol @ the 8k dps of someone playing HC. I appreciate all the input from everyone and I agree and disagree with a few things. I play a tank barb for a reason. To stand in shit and not get 1 shot all the time. Yes, you are correct I cannot tank everything but I don't want to just give up and go damage much like a lot of barbs out there. My 1h that I use with my shield isnt good, Ive gotten a like 200-300 LoH and ive seen a bit of a difference in the gameplay, nonetheless ima prolly stick to my act 2 farming until I get enough gold for a better wep and some pieces with higher str/vit/all resist. From the looks of this game in general you either go glass cannon and could die to silly things, or go tanky and tank for someone who kills them for you. When you solo as a tank or have no one to play with, you do often sit there for quite some time until you can kill the champ pack. I'm just one of those players who likes to have no issues with white mobs but can laugh at my glass cannon friends when they die 100 times. I just think the skull cleavers might be a little OP and need a slight damage nerf or somehow make it so they dont all attack at once. Just think of it as illusion mobs all spamming illusions at once, or being chain frozen like it was planned by an enemy team. Its a little annoying and a tad bit rediculous
I have 0 life on hit, always had, it is not mandatory.
The way you beat skull cleavers as tank barb - you don't tank them.
The way you beat most content without dying of boredom - you don't play tank barb.
In all seriousness, you won't ever have enough gear to "tank everything".
Even with those resists and after inferno nerf, you got demolished by a few white mobs. That says a lot about barb state.
Go damage, get 30k+ damage. Get leap with iron landing, get ignore pain, get wrath and all of a sudden things change.
You still wont able to tank shit, you can't now anyway, but you will able to kill shit before it kills you.
Why play a barb if you're gonna kite like a range class and do less damage? Seems stupid to me.
I'm a tank barb... 51k HP, 14k dps 10 armor 1k AR 800 LoH.... i can solo all of inferno fairly easy. So you're logic is quite dumb tbh. Go play a DH or Wiz if you want to kite you get triple the damage.

No one said anything about kiting anything. And please, you are in no position to ever call my logic dumb, or decisions stupid.
You just chain your defensive cooldowns and kill everything quickly.
And if you lack the damage or whatever, you wait 1-2 seconds till your cooldowns are back up and do it again.
Your stats are what most barbs get without spending insane amounts of gold. And I played tank barb and I cleared inferno as tank barb before the inferno nerf. Did you?
Can you stand and tank damage from molten or arcane lazers? Nope, you have to move to a better position etc. Now imagine the exact same gameplay but with 5x more damage. That is what everyone was talking about.
When you kite with a ranged class, you die in a few seconds. If you think there are only two builds: either glass canon or tank, you are the stupid one.
I am 10 times tankier than any DH or WIZ out there, and I don't kite anything.
Also, how long does it take you to do a act3 full clear run?
I've never timed how long it took me to clear Act 3, i farm act 4 with those stats no problem except for a random bad affix. I can stand in anything and live. I might get low on HP here and there but a quick leap out and charge back in heals me right back up. I spent 5mil on my gear Max... compared to people that spend 10x that and still have an issue with Act 3 and on which makes absolutely no sense to me.
You're saying "don't tank them" so what's that mean other then come in hit and run back. That's kiting for a barbarian, correct? If it works for you that's fine. I'm just pointing out it is possible to tank everything in the game minus a few bad affix which you have no choice to come in and hit and run back a bit. I just don't find myself doing it much at all and not spending much at all on gear.
Not trying to argue, fight or have any tension just chose a bad choice of words. My apologies.
Its a tough champ pack nonetheless and I could see everyone running in to trouble with it in a 4 player game, with or without a tank. Ive come to the conclusion that if Ryno isnt having any trouble with those stats and clearing inferno then I have something to shoot for as a tank. Yes it would be nice to drop 2-5 mil on a good dps build and fly through solo inferno. I personally dont have that kind of money and I would prefer to tank for friends and we progress together. My second barb that I need the level 60 with 2 barbs achievement will probably be a DW double tornado spec unless it gets nerfed. I like my tankie ways but both of you are right about good ways to clear inferno.

You will barely get enough gear for tank spec with that money.
You will definitely not get even remotely close to ww/tornado spec with that little gold.
I'm not good at saving my gold like everyone else. Even in wow I only have like 13kg which is just there to cover repairs. If you have 100 million gold good for you but thats not how I play. If I find a 10 mil item and sell it, I'm probably going to spend half of it or more as soon as I get it. I dont need that much gold, I will just proceed with selling bad to average gear for under 200k and buying a piece or 2 at a time.
Karalius in my tank set with 1.5k LoH Molten, Plagued and even Desecrator heal me for more than they damage while OP:CA is up (~50% up time with high crit). 1.2k RA 80k HP and tank spec it really isn't a big deal to stand in elite abilities.
But you are right in that it is boring which is why I am dual wielding as of 1.03 and just burning things down. In 4p I will usually switch to some tank gear though because Zerking things doesn't really work as well.
If you want to main barb you might as well just be flexible and have two sets of gear. I never die and gear/spec appropriately for my party and act.

well im glad i know someone can tank everything lol I am somewhat confused as to how your stats are that good tho. >.> you must be rich! haha. I finally got up to 2mil gold and I am considering finding an LoH wep for act 3... although I did manage to get to ghom and i yeah pretty much had no chance.
ok...saying "child" "scrub" "15y old" "stfu" "noobie" = proving to be an adult? come on.. can't be a better troll?
It just means he's in that really crap 18-20 range where kids think their mature adults because they can now buy cigarettes and move out of mommy and daddy's house.
Well, this thread quickly devolved. But to the OP:
I use ground stomp with the pull rune to pull everything in and then revenge spam while chewing away at non-illusions with WotB. Illusionist usually means more mobs to revenge off of. Leap with iron impact will help you get out of desecrator when it stacks up and you can also jump over arcane sentries. Sometimes I'll need to leap out and then run around while potions are in cooldown/pull them away from health orbs so I can leap onto the health.
8k damage seems a little low, even for a tank. Also, your shield might need upgrading. 25% with Helm of Command? You should be able to find a shield with better chance to block; they're pretty cheap.
