I've been reading a crap load of threads here and can't seem to find an answer to my question. How is everyone getting upwards of 1000 resist for Inferno? reason I ask is that I just got to Act 2 Inferno, and getting my ass handed to me.
Are people rich and just buy heavy +resist all on their gear? What's the average +resist all that most people have on a piece of gear, 20-30? I'm trying to wrap my head around how these numbers are achievable.
Hope this makes sense and thank in advance for any help.
For a Barb, yeah, it's just going to be tons of resist all along with Warcry: Impunity as far as I know, and maybe a small bit of Int / specific resists if they're mostly "free" on an item. 1000 resist with Impunity, which is a ton by the way and I don't think hardly anyone has that much, is about 667 base. I think that's pretty much the top end of what's possible for a Barbarian as that's an average of about 62 resist all on every slot if you have 500 intelligence. I rerolled a couple of new characters instead of gearing up right now, so I can't speak to what's average though.

Im currently sitting at 964+ I have two higher and thats cold at 1064 and physical at 1270. How did I get it ? I have 52+ all res on all my items except 1 ring and my neck. How to get the gear, farm items sell them and buy items that suit you or you can make money on the ah by buying cheap and selling high. Its up to you, but I did it with a combination of both.
I'm having 50-60 all resist on every piece except 1 ring and my weapon, currently in act3 and aiming for pieces that have 70+ all resist now if only i would get lucky when identifying rares

how are you guys getting so much money/gear??? I am struggling to stay above 3 million gold after repair bills. Act 2 is kicking my ass even though i have 550 RA, I was only barely able to kill Magda but the elite packs in the sewers always beat me.
I have tried selling some items I find and havent sold anything for more than 300k, usually less than 80k. nothing that drops is even comparable to the gear I have purchased from the AH; I am not getting upgrades where I am, but I can't progress to where upgrades would drop, nor can I afford better upgrades.
I have also tried flipping some items and have been burned several times, apparently I haven't the slightest clue as to what is worth what.

With a bit of luck and a tonne of farming.
Act 2 has a small chance of dropping ilvl 63 gear, which means you have a shot at those crazy perfectly rolled items worth 10+ million. You should be especially excited when you see rare rings/amulets as they are often in huge demand with the rights stats. Even Act 1 sometimes drop items that are worth millions.
The rule is never to make assumptions about the value of an item. Obviously there are some absolute "shocking" items that are no good to anybody, but sometimes you may think an item is mediocre when in fact ones particular build or class find it to be the perfect itemisation. An example is a ring I found, 73 dex, 3% crit chance and 50~% crit damage, and another random single resist stat. I thought it was absolute crap having never played a DH at the time, but I did a bit of research and found very few rings like that, the ones that were like that were selling for 1.5mil +. I ended up selling it for 1.8 million, when, I mayvery well have just vendoered it seeing it being a level 54 item.
I ended up selling it for 1.8 million, when, I may very well have just vendoered it seeing it being a level 54 item.
and this is what 99.9% of the qq'ing barbarians do , they vendor the item cause they got pissed off they didnt get a item for themselves
And you are basing this on what? Your own research? Things you hear your mates complaining about? You had a dream about it?
Back on topic... the resists that they mention aren't solely from the items you gear. Warcry's impunity rune increases your current resists by another 50%, so it gets even more effective the more resists you've got to begin with.
I'm sitting at 900 RA w/impunity as a 2hand barb. The items weren't that expensive tbh, i pretty much just put str/vit/ra as the stats i'm looking for and put 50-60 as the minimum i wanted for RA. Then just slowly start upping the str and vit with a max buyout of say 500k or so. Eventually you'll minimize the search to 1-2 pages worth of items. Generally i can get to about 100str/75vit before the search drops to a few items. Find 1 that has the stats you want and buy it. if you have 3mil then you should have no problem getting more resist. The only slots that are extemely expensive is your rings/amulets and of course weapons and shields can get pretty expensive depending on what your looking for. 800+ dps 1handers with 300+ LoH is pretty expensive. Along with shields with 25%+ chance to block and 3-4k block amount. 2handers are cheap lol.

I'm in the same boat :'( ...It's making me consider re-rolling. I'm going on holiday next week for 4 weeks, so I'll re-evaluate once I'm back since the next major patch should be released by then.

should be players in general not just who play barbs, majority of the people i know dont know what other classes needed in the game.
oh and for the record impunity raises it up 40% - so if you have a neck piece with 60 all resist it will increase your resistance by 90 with the buff up

Ah - just making sure you're not a pansy DH trolling on the barb forum
And my bad about the 40% - 50% mixup...lets cross fingers I didn't inadvertently cause some lurker a horrible death in hardcore...

It is 50%, not sure where he was getting the 40% number. In fact the example he showed gave the correct calculation, using 50%.

Thank you very much for your response. That answers my question very well.
Have a great one!
