Simply want to know if games that advertise Nvidia chip-sets are necessarily better than using ATI?
And for Blizzard specifically also.
I ask b/c i plan on doing a new build soon and id like to optimize my graphics by what works best with Blizzard games/specifically for Diablo 3. I know reqs. aren't out for the game yet but im kinda going balls to the wall so it should be fine
As said, Blizzard games usually have relatively low requirements for their games. I have used both nVidia and ATI (Atm sitting on an ATI HD5850). I've had no problem with either.
The thing with "Optimized for nVidia/ATI" that some games run with is that it's mostly just a marketing trick. It doesn't ensure that either will run better than the other. Sometimes it might, but the quality of the card itself is far more important.
any given game is either designed on a computer using nvidia or ati but I think liquorice is right about the marketing situation. there might be some money passed around for advertising. I do however know that ATI graphics usually run more optimized on AMD systems while nvidia working usually smoother with Intel. While none of the areas really run bad as stated above I suppose there have to be a runs best with category somewhere.
Nvidia can update their card's drivers faster than ATI if I can recall. That's a point you don't want to forget if you're planning to play D3 in the first 1 week of it 's release. But at the end, it doesn't matter if it's Optimised for ....

I don't know about nvidia and intel but I do know that AMD bought ATI sooo yeah I'm willing to bet their cards work best with their own chips. As for nvidia or ATI.. like it's been said, it really depends on the card. If the game does run BEST on nvidia cards you probably won't notice the difference if you get a decent ATI card. What really matters is driver support so if Blizzard does develop their games on nvidia systems then I'm willing to bet nvidia will have out the best drivers first.
nVIDIA is better for gaming.
ATI is better for work.
Don't really know what you base that on.
I'm not going to go into details because, seriously, I hate ATI (that name is going to be scrapped btw, AMD is removing it all together soon) vs Nvidia discussions and the way they always turn out.
I prefer Nvidia due to software and less overheating issues, although generally ATI gives more power for the money.
The difference, though, is marginal at best indeed, especially for Blizz games.
only difference i could see as in advantage for nVidia users for Diablo III would be the use of PhysiX that they have implemented in their cards. Since Blizzard has licenced Havoc physics engine for the corpse/environment smashing fun.

PhysX has nothing to do with Havoc. They are two different engines and you don't need an Nvidia card to use Havoc.
So AMD (ATI) don't develop their cards for gaming?
Some quotes:
"ATI Radeon™ HD 5000 Series
Expand. Accelerate. Dominate Your Games."
"Prepare to experience a riveting high-definition gaming experience with ATI Radeon™ HD 5870 graphics processor."
"New possibilities for ultimate gaming, digital media entertainmet" www.amd.com "Gaming" is a frontpage tab.
Steam integrated drivers updating for gamers.
To mention a few.

Just sayin'..
Because we all know when a company says something to promote one of its products, it's always true!

No, but the quotes proves that they indeed develop their cards for games. That's what I wanted to say with them..
I really don't want to get too deep into an AMD vs Nvidia discussion because I think it's just utterly pointless. They are both great companies with good products. It's a constant battle, you can't just say "AMD>NVIDIA ALWAYS" (or vice versa) because new products come to the market all the time. Sure, you can favour one brand over the other because of your own experience/performance in a certain game/etcetc. That's fine and understandable.
Me, i'll pick what I think is best at the time of purchase based on performance/price, regardless of brand.

Ofc I don't sit on it while playing games. Only while writing in the forum.
