Meph I totally agree with you! Age is crap, we should be taken by intelligence, or maturity, not age. Couse now a days age is fucked up(apologies for language), I see kids of 12 doing thinks of a guy of 18, but dont even know what they are doing(like sex and things that require you to be more mature), and older guys doing things of kids of 14, what in both sides are bads. Be mature or dont be

Give, expecting nothing thereof. ------------ BoD - Come have some fun! Folks will always come and go, so enjoy them while they're meant to be in your life.
Three! (Super Mario Bros. 1 for the NES) I started D2 about age 14 or 15, around there. Got into it because it was a Blizzard game and I enjoyed SC and WC so I figured I'd give it a try. Lol.
At the moment, World of Warcraft, Minecraft, Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, Assassins Creed 2, and Too Human, but I wanna try ProtoGalaxy
Hah! Macros and Syllix you oldies.. forget about Diablo. You'll die before it's released anywya. Go do some crosswords instead.
Careful liquorice, or us "oldies" will be handing out APPLES on Halloween...and stale sticks of gum kept from our teen years! Now if you'll excuse me, I must attend to 41 down... Hmmm let's see, a three letter word beginning with C, ending with T, and rhymes with "hat"? Consarnit! I can't see without my glasses... *takes sip of tea*
older people are usually wiser, or um, more experienced. i could crush my mum in a duel of wits, but at the end of the day i cant balance a checkbook or understand home insurance and those things.

Uhhh....uhhhhhhhhhh...no. Your mom can't identify bacteria, but I'm sure if she took a course, she can do better. Likewise for you. Ask about home insurance, you will know about home insurance. I know about all those things. Your argument made no sense.

None of that has anything to do with age, ultimately. Proximately, maybe... (see what I did there)
The only reason you may not understand home insurance and relate that to age is where since you are a certain age you are not likely to come in contact with home insurance, therefore deal with it, therefore learn about it. But there's nothing preventing you or me from learning about it, and once we do we may realize our parents don't know shit about it...
As for experience, everyone gains it at a different pace, in different ways. Not all experience is positive, in fact, adults suffer from the lockdown effect, after a certain point they're unable to change their opinion or adapt to new information. IMO, most adults are pretty unwise. Wisdom is not age related, it's a developed thing that you kinda need to... make sure you still have. Or it's gonna run off. Lol.
The only thing age affects at all, IMO, is brain development. Pretty hard to learn much when you're still in that stage where you think you're the only being in the universe (pre-6 or so). But after the age of about ~15, certainly after the age of ~18, it's fair game. After 6 you can learn. By 15 you should have all the basic info that you need to get more info. These days you have the internet. Society keeps slowing children down but even if there are statistical trends of, say, people of age X being stupid about topic Y, it's most likely related to their social circumstances, such as still living with parents, being treated a certain way at age X, being taught certain things at age X, being in contact with certain people at age X, rather than the actual biological effect of their age.
If you ask me, society is basically making us advance slower than we can and the term for that is ageism.
The "one size fits all" mentality both of society at large and the educational system doesn't help.
I'm actually studying psychology so I'll put my two cents in. As you can see in the image below the brain only really finishes development at around age 20 - although new studies are revealing it's more likely between the ages of 23-25. Particularly it's the pre-frontal cortex; responsible for judgment, decision making and controlling your impulses that is the last to develop. So yeah one can seem more mature for their age in some aspects but still be inadequately developed. For example, I've always been more matured than my friends but when it came to decisions boy did I make a few bad ones. I'm sure some of you have experienced similiar situations. Having sex without a condom for example. Ignoring consequences. Then of course there's other factors like environment and culture. There's just so much that contributes to our mental age.
That said, some people do develop more quickly than others and then some slower, giving the appearance that they seem older or younger than their actual age. Like you said earlier, society seems to view people younger than 20 as still being adolescents. I suppose this is why people tend to pretend their older; so that they're taken more seriously.

Those are not related to the "development" of your brain.
Genes affect intelligence, too. That doesn't mean IQ reflect how you will actually make decisions.
It doesn't work like that. After age 6 people can make decisions. The only issue is knowledge/experience. That which you said above, having sex without a condom, is a knowledge vs philosophy issue, and I am pretty sure I can trace that decision to a lot of social factors that are floating around.
Social factors affecting treatment at an age are much more significant than how mature your brain is in our society right now. And that's the key point. I have not noticed any radical jumps between say, 15 and 20 year olds, or 20 year olds and 25 year olds. If you take this forum, I personally can't really say what anyone's range is and there are people in the 10-30 region here and any traceable differences between them are not statistically significant.
