Indeed, I should have spec switched, but I was feeling over-confident at the time. I haven't had much time to go back and take another shot at finishing act2 lately, but when I do it will be with the gloves off for sure.
I'll have to piggy back a ride with you into act 2 I can probably do enough damage for you I just can't take the hits

Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
Well I haven't changed my gear at all, but doctor'd my build replacing leap with charge-dreadnaught and superstition with juggernaut. It didn't seem like a big change, but it was enough added sustain and anti-cc to clear the rest of act2 (without skipping any elites!) no problem.
Then I ran into Belail and failed to beat the enrage a few times before calling it a night. ~18k dps with full frenzy stacks, 50k+ with wotb on top of it, but even with two WOTB applications per his last phase i'm still 10% or so shy of a kill. I assume this is the point when I don some gimmick spec, but at this point I haven't heard of one which doesn't rely on LoH (still too expensive for me).
Well, the barb has run me to the end of my gold coin purse. After perusing for upgrades for two solid hours I couldn't find a thing for less than what I consider a hefty markup. I believe that means it's time once-again for alt-leveling in the hopes of finding a more reasonable budget-build class. Now comes the tough decision between wizard and DH.

Yeah, unfortunately Barb will do that to you. It is the most expensive class to gear up. The cheapest, I'd say, would be Wizard or Demon Hunter, if you're looking for a cheap class.
Well, lets face it, at least to me, Barb + WW is what puts a big fat smile in my face, or at least it was back in D2. Now with Fury and not Mana, having issues to keep the WW going, not so much anymore. Yet, the voice, some abilities like "leap", all that make the barb the class I want to play.
Unfortunately, as said, it is too gear dependent. So, the result is that now, I play a wizard, farming A1, finding close to no upgrades, but at least, I HAVE FUN. A1 with the barb was ok, but the WW + WotB + Critz build gets boring after a while.
You know what is sad?
I'm playing "melee" wizard, and it has the same armor and the barb does, and with shout, reaches 1800 resists all, which I could NEVER get with the barb. So, yeah... squishy wizard is the best tank I played so far. =p
I blame this on barbs being the only class who use strength...... strength items always seem to be so expensive!
I still think the WD is the most expensive to gear, despite the unique primary stat barbs have. Sustain via revenge and dreadnaught was plenty for act1-2 inferno allowing me to get by without the super-expensive secondary stats like LoH and build tanky with reasonable dps. The WD can't build as naturally tanky and has extremely spotty sustain by comparison, thus necessitating perfect itemization earlier on (unless you actually enjoy splinter kiting and skipping a lot of elite affixes). That is not to mention the almost-required tertiary affixes like mana regen on builds like PtV VQ Bears.
The barb is still head and shoulders more enjoyable and capable for farming A1-2, but hitting the glass ceiling on my wallet was demoralizing.

Indeed, I did several public games with a CM melee wizard who out-tanked me in every way (save vs. mobile ranged elites). I don't begrudge the class for having such a cool and unique build style, but I certainly don't like the fact I'd have to pay 10mil for an LoH weapon to accomplish similar to his <1mil equipment setup.

You'd think being the only class to use a stat would make it more common. I bet they just made it so Int and Dex occurs twice as often as Str does.
Interesting. I had noticed that trend, but wasn't sure if it was just my luck. That's good to know.
Anyhow, I am staying positive on this and looking forward to a new character experience. If anyone has a normal mode alt they'd like to join me on, add me today and we'll make an afternoon/evening of it.

CM Wiz equipes are not cheap at all. You need IAS, crit%, armor, int and AR in almost all pieces of gear. Without IAS and crit% you can't recast diamond skin very often. W/o good armor and ar you can't make diamond skin last enough.
Barbs are one of the most gear independent class imo. You get enough armor by stacking STR, you reach the AR thrashehold easily with War Cry and Frenzy + LoH is pure win. Any halfass loh weapon is enough to finish act 2. I awre you already did it, then i'm assuming you're hitting the Act 3 brick wall ?
If thats the case, almost all classes hit it. Kite class-build need some "godly" gear that combines enough resistance and 50k+ DPS. Melee need combine good LoH and dps which is pretty difficult, i agree. I'm just saying, in this patch i don't think barbs are harder to gear up then other classes...
As I said, I think barbs are actually easier to gear than WD at this point. Admittedly I don't know enough about the other classes to say with any certainty who's got the best shot in act3. Wizard just seems easy to farm with while stacking mf, which simply wouldn't work on my barb, to say nothing of my wd. Monk and DH could also be viable options too, but I see more threads about successful wizards on the cheap than DH (where the threads are dominated by "100k+ dps," residents whom I couldn't hope to emulate).
I rarely hear anything about the monk, perhaps I should read more into that class.
Computer blue-screened on me shortly after I put some time into my wizard and gave me a little time to reflect. I've decided to put the wizard on hold for a bit and make an effort to see the WD through act2. Feels a bit shameful leaving him stuck half way through it.
Wonder of wonders! Today I found my first legitimate upgrade in a week or more. 1250 dps 2h mace with decent primary stats. I've rather enjoyed trying some harder hitting builds to farm act1. Act2 is still a dicey situation.
95% of people are happy with Diablo III and are in-game and playing.
5% of people are unhappy with Diablo III and are here at the forums and complaining.
When something works for you, you enjoy it. When it doesn't, you whine about it. That sums up the situation.
95%? I'd love to see those figures... Game went from having 20k+ in public games to less than 2k in what feels like overnight.
He was over estimating, it is probably 1% of people are posting and complaining, 2% don't post or left the game, the other 47% don't care and continue playing, the other 50% love the game.
The public games went down because it is filling up games that have been open longer then 10 seconds rather then creating new ones, so that 20k was just a myth, it is probably in reality higher than it was before.
I found 4 yes 4 legitimate pieces of gear that are AH worthy (first time ever)!!!! A Yellow ring, 800 DPS wand with decent stats, 1200 dps monk staff, and a top end butchers sickle (legendary) sold for a easy 200K. It was a good night, too bad none of them were for my class. Hopefully they sell and I can get a one hander better than 800 dps!
Act 1 is officially face roll fun farm now. The barb still kicks ass just haven't played him much lately
I too, just got my first big break in the form of Andy's Visage. It sold immediately for a few million and finally gave me the spending money I needed to pick up some ~500k LoH upgrades (ring, amulet) and snag a steal of a 1h mace (830 dps, 306 LoH, 100+ str/vit, all for less than 600k).
Feeling uncertain about just how much I would notice ~900 LoH I took the new kit out for a spin in act2. Long story short, I was absolutely floored. I did a clean sweep of act2, minus belial (whom I still probably wouldn't beat the enrage on) with only 2 deaths. I always thought LoH was a rather OP stat, but it appears I underestimated just how amazing it could be in small doses.
My only remaining problem now is getting enough AH slots free (I admittedly try to sell too much of the semi-useless junk I find) to sell off my old weapons and equipment that were replaced and recoup enough gold to give act3 another try.
Inspired by another thread I took it upon myself to clear act3, by all accounts undergeared for the task. After a long day of multi-death elite packs, utilizing WOTB to clear white trash (phase beasts, i'm talking about you), and generally hauling ass to the next waypoint I finally completed the death of azmodan.
Now with my foot into the door of act4 I'm beginning to realize why even the most geared of the geared farm act3. Elite packs in act4 tend to stack atop one another. Curiously enough I have yet to come across one in the pair that wasn't nightmarish or knockback along with arcane enchant. It appears act4 will be all about loading a new instance of the game to try for less-than-suicide elites. Bosses are absolutely anti-climactic at this point.
Welcome back my friend. Basically, the game shipped and a lot of people had unrealistic expectations, expecting some sort of second coming of gaming, but instead received a fun, solid game. If you haven't yet started playing, fear not, you can go get it, and be ready to have a good time.
Granted, Blizzard did botch up here and there, and they're busy fixing the cracks in the structure, but like I already said, the foundation is very solid. When the first expansion ships, we can all be assured that the experience will skyrocket and we will all benefit from it.
