As much as I love calling myself a nerd, there are still things I can't keep up with, until I see it on a front page somewhere. I made this thread real quick to let people know about the newest GPU from Nvidia =D At the moment they are claiming it is the fastest GPU card available, and the most power efficient. It's also able to support three monitors off it's one GPU, and I think they said it's like 499$.
Anyways I'm more excited than anything because I'm going to buy one as soon as I can =D I'm also super stoked I kept my GTX 470 until something MUCH better came out around the 500$ mark. (The GTX 570 is only a little better than my 470, and the 580 and 590 cost so much damn money, for the same fermi architecture, where the 680 is using the kepler architecture =D )

Edit: For those who don't want to read the article, here's a list of the major features they put in it.
Gamers told us they want GPUs that are cooler, quieter, and more power efficient. So we re-designed the architecture to do just that. The GeForce GTX 680 consumes less power than any flagship GPU since the GeForce 8800 Ultra, yet it outperforms every GPU we or anyone else have ever built.
We wanted to make gaming not just faster, but smoother. FXAA and the new TXAA does both. Games get super smooth edges without tanking the performance.
Adaptive V-Sync improves upon a feature that many gamers swear by. Now you can play with V-sync enabled and not worry about sudden dips in framerate.
Finally, a single GPU now powers a full NVIDIA Surround setup plus an accessory display. There is simply no better way to play a racing game or flight simulator. Add in NVIDIA PhysX technology, and the GTX 680 delivers an amazingly rich gaming experience.
Really want one but can't afford one right now and I think I read somewhere that they are already sold out.
Mainly I want it because it's a revolutionary card for those who game in 3D. Normally 3D mode takes half your normal FPS, but this card seems to mostly perform on par, sometimes even better, rarely a bit worse in 3D mode. When I first read that my jaw broke. Really making me want one.
I just found out about it today lmao, but atm it does seem like they might be sold out, none on newegg and I can't find any on the nvidia website atm. That's fine I'll buy it whenever it comes out =D
The new 680 isn't designed to be the fastest card out there, but it keeps on par with the best and often surpasses them by mentionable amounts. What the 680 was designed to do was be a top performer while not becoming a burden on your electric bill like the other top of the line cards. There are tons of reviews currently up on tons of tech review websites. Read them and be amazed.... not at its ability to stay on par and surpass its contenders, but to go all out while draining only a fraction of the energy.

That's actually one of the biggest selling points for me (besides the 1 gpu to 3 screens, TXAA and adaptive V sync). I've got a 470, and it runs everything I throw at it at LEAST 30 fps in the most consuming games, and around 100 fps in stuff like MW3 and whatnot. But DAMN is it noisy when that fan reaches about 75% to cool off its GPU. I ran the 560 TI for a day or so just to test it, and it was MUCH quieter, so if the 680 is even more power efficient than that, I'm stoked =D

Yea man, I've got a 470 as well but I don't seem to notice the sound of the card at peak performance. Next year I will be rebuilding my rig... have to wait till then. I love my 470, though!
One thing to note though:
Coming with a hefty price tag, you will get more for your buck by choosing a cheaper hard, such as the 560 TI.
That being said, it does come with a really exciting new architechture. (talking about their new AA architechture, which truely seems amazing)
Yeah. Film quality features. It's smth. I don't need it as I plan to play D3 only and my gtx570 is great for it but in the feature when new games come along (like maybe Titan) I will give it a go. Good choice nonetheless.

well see the 560 ti is only SLIGHTLY better at performance than my 470, but it doesn't come with the new 600 series features, such as Kepler architecture, TXAA, adaptive Vsync and 4 monitor support (you can use up to 3 to game, and 1 for desktop at the same time.) Also according to the, the 680 is better than their 590 =D

I never noticed any noise, until I downloaded EVGA and noticed that even when my GPU went up to almost 100% usage, and about 108 C, the fan never kicked on past 30%. With EVGA I manually put my fan at 70% so my temp doesn't get any higher than 70 C.
Also, damn the 470 must be tough. I spent a good 3 months playing it nonstop at 108C without any problems lmao.

Yes indeed it is. By a long mark too. Efficiency/watt is up 144% compared, which is pretty crazy, and the TXAA architechture looks so nice.
My point being though, that you can by it at 500$, which is alot, or you can spend a whole lot less, on something that you will get just as much joy out of, and which can be replaced in a year or two, for the same amount, amounting to say, the same as the 680 costs now.
New technology will ALWAYS be pricier. You won't get the same value for the buck. Just take HDD's as an example. Sure you could get a 4 TB disk. But it will be freakishly expensive, while 2, 2 TB's won't cost you even nearly as much.
All that said, it IS a great card, and it's selling points will definitly be the increased monitor support, the TXAA and the lower power consumption.
I know I would rather buy one or two 560 TI though, or even wait and see if they make a cheaper version of the 680, that incorporates the new TXAA.
Yeah you don't need to be a hardware enthusiast just to want the 680. I certainly wish I could get one for myself but I'm not budgeted at all for that kind of hardware right now. My next big investment is a second ssd so I can do RAID 0 on my desktop.
i think im just going to go with the 560 ti with the recent price drop due to the release of the kepler series graphics cards. would now be the optimum time to buy, or should i wait another month?

560 Ti is still an amazing value and will be for some time. You can easily find it for 200, maybe less, and it's a great card. Some of the pricing on the 680 goes toward stuff I'm still not sure sure I'd utilize, especially the 3D stuff. But yeah the 560....eh, it's about a good time to buy it I think. I don't think any time soon the price will drop dramatically though. It's about where it's gonna be for awhile but that's still a good price.

@ StraightOuttaCompton
There are no games that support TXAA yet, so no rush

And yes it is indeed the fasttest card out there right now.
