I have a gtx 460 sitting around from another computer I never upgraded. Should I switch out the 5550 for it? Or are they pretty similar? I did some searching on tom's hardware but just wondered what some tech-heads around here thought. Thanks
Yeah. Def gonna switch. And really, the 5550 has been pretty darn good. Tho BF3 was run at mid/low cause that was too much. Mk. Gonna switch it out soonish. Thanks everyone
Yea i've got the GTX 470, those mother effers are loud when the fans like 70%, but damn they work nice. Just with my 470 I've ran every game at max settings without issue, including games like BF3 and whatnot. I would buy a 500 series since they run cooler and quieter, but the 560 is weaker, i can't find any 570's and 580 + is like 350$ +, so I'm just waiting around until I absolutely have to buy a new card.
Quick tip; Download EVGA for your gtx. There you can see your GPU temp and mess with your fan speed to get it down. Don't worry these cards are made to handle running hot. Hell I had this card sitting at 108 C for like 3 months before I knew about EVGA (my card doesn't like to raise the fan speed on it's own >< ) but at ~70% it'l sit at about 60C or so with D3 and SC2 (both actually are far more intensive than you'd think =P )
TLDR; GTX all the way, and grab EVGA so you can make your bedroom sound like a turbine motor =D
Why dont u just go for a used video card from some one else (some gamers just want to have the best of the best) Thats how i got my gtx 570 for just 150euro (thats 170-180$?) and i havent regret it for a day
Man go with gtx. I had 2 ATI cards before and 2 nvidia and in speed they probably comparable but ATI is f... when it comes to writing drivers. If you want to have plug and play experience and much less problems with your card go Nvidia or experiment with ATI. But IMO it feels good to try both producents. This way you won't have a problem deciding in the feature.

I just switched my HD 5770 for a GTX 560 TI. The Difference is huge, and it works incredibly good.
Oh defiantly, the 500 series is the nice, cool and quiet run =D I'm still rocking the 470, which although powerful, was pushed out before they put in all the cool quiet stuff. Also on the subject is it worth it buying the TI version? From what I read it just stands for titanium, but as far as performance isn't much better than the standard version.
That is a load of waffle. A regular GTX 560 doesn't stand a chance to a GTX 560 TI. TI versions are always immensely better performance wise. A regular GTX 560 is pretty crappy in it's price range, to be honest.
The difference ain't that huge between a regular and a TI version, more like 10-15%
Can check some quick numbers here: http://www.anandtech...tom-overclock/9
But yeah, I would ofc. go for the TI, or throw in a few more bucks and get the GTX570.
While you can pick up a Geforce GTX 560 starting at $180-190, I don’t recommend it, seeing as it performs on par with the much less expensive Radeon HD 6870 recommended above.
Simply put, the $210 Geforce GTX 560 Ti doesn’t have much competition at this price point:
- It outperforms the $175 Radeon HD 6870.
- As for the Radeon HD 6950, which outperforms the GTX 560 Ti, it starts at $258, $48 more. So why are you recommending the Geforce GTX 560?
Well, the Geforce GTX 560 Ti isn’t that far behind the Radeon HD 6950 and costs $30 less, making it a good choice if your budget is closer to $200 than $250.
Also, the Geforce GTX 560 Ti has a reputation for being a card with a lot of overclocking potential and this particular Gigabyte card, with its dual fan cooling system, has enough cooling to accommodate quite a bit of overclocking without sounding like a turbo jet.
This card will run pretty much any game at 1920 x 1080, including Crysis Warhead (At Gamer overall settings, with some Enthusiast settings) and other demanding games, with less or more AA/AF, depending on the game.
While this is somewhat a true statement, if I buy a 6950 and flash it to a 6970 which has a really decent success rate and cost cheaper than a 6970 than it is actually better to go with a 6950 over a 560 TI. They're both good cards though.
