It's been 18 days after entries were closed and there would only be a simple voting between the staff. Also in those 18 days, owner of this site has changed. I'm wondering if the logo contest is cancelled or going to be cancelled. I tried to post this in the announcement thread but it was locked. So I polluted the forum with another thread.
Dunno...I made a thread 10 days ago asking what's up. They have already started voting, how long this will take is anyone's guess. Maybe they announce it tonight?!?!
I hope they choose one of them. There are many people's efforts in those submissions. And there are many logos way better than the old one. At least some information can be given about the contest, about what will happen. I'm sure I'm not the only one checking the forum everyday for the winner.

agreed.. at least i think we are entitled to some info regarding to WTF happened to this contest

It's only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything.
Ok, calm down and let's not break the chairs, we don't have a lot of those.
The logo contest is kinda cancelled, yes, mostly because I don't want to announce a winner if we're not going to use his logo anyway. I requested a redesign of the site when I took over and there's no way we can just use someone's else logo, first because the chances that it will fit the new design are pretty low, and also because there's a shitton of potential legal issues.
Let's assume we start selling Diablofans t-shirt tomorrow, or Diablofans branded plush puppies, and whoever was the winner of the logo contest can sue our ass. Let's assume we have tons of Diablofans promo at the next Curse Party at Blizzcon, same problem, etc ... There's just too many issues with that contest and I can't go through with it, it wasn't my decision but feel free to yell at me anyway.
On a sidenote, future contests (assuming we have something interesting to give away) will be much simpler, I don't really like situations where picking winners is purely subjective.

Hhhm? It's always subjective.

really ..? potential legal issues ?? if you haven't requested redesign of the site, this issues would still remain
so what's the point of this contest at all ? i suggest you go back and read rule number two :
"The logo must be unique, original and reflect both Diablo III and DiabloFans"
all those guys in Submission Thread devoting their original art work to this site without any EXPECTATIONS therefore
you can pick the winner and register his/her logo for this site and i dont see any "potential legal issue" in it.
can anybody else see problems ?
this is not cool man, at least for sake of all those entries you could announce that we are going to dump your work so don't waste any time checking for the results. and by the way what the heck do you mean the chances that it will fit the new design are pretty low ??

What he probably meant by legal issues is that it's possible that the winner may sue DiabloFans for using his lego on items that gives money to DiabloFans and not to creator of the logo (royalties). Yes the rules says that the person is not suppose to ask for money but in court that is not enough to save DiabloFans ass if there was a sue case.
When you do contest like that it's really hard and long to make proper legal stuff that will prevent any problems...
Also what he probably meant by the chances that the logo design as pretty low chance to match the new website is that when you create a website design you often have to redo the logo with it to match the design. You do not do a design of a website around a logo.... So if they do a website design there's few chances that the logo will match perfectly with the website.
On another note, Boubouille you should at least say which logo you prefered out of the lot (Staff vote), just so people who spend many hours doing it won't be pissed and felt it was a lost of time.. And that even if their logo won't be used.

so you are telling me that staff probably not aware of all legal stuff when they submit this contest ??? it sucks..
actually when first time i saw this contest i think about those problems but then i think they probably have solution for that, what a waste of time...
i agree with you 100% they should show the winner it's the least they can do.
Boubouille "took over" administration of Dfans after the contest was started, but before it was concluded.
As it goes with all changing of management, not everything falls in to place right away and some changes will be made.
It's regretful, but it doesn't mean we don't appreciate the entries we've received and there's not one of us that don't wish the whole thing had turned out differently (in regards to the competition).
the only way you can appreciate the entries is showing the result of voting and give some reputation to the
winner it is free, no potential legal issues and 100% fit to the new design

It's only after we've lost everything that we're free to do anything.
When I submitted the logos for the contest I assumed I would be signing away all rights to the design if chosen..
I had no issues with that at all..
However, that being said here's something else to think about (as if you don't have enough to think about on this topic! ) I wouldn't be very happy if the new logo that is being created for the new site design imitates the ideas or styles of any of the unique designs submitted, without consent from the artist and recognition giving to that artist.
I do look forward to seeing the new design though! The site could use the updating!
Im sure later we will say, we had it down to three, and had a winner, but as said, we are getting something much better than a logo, we are getting a full redesign, which is something none of us could have predicted.
Ok, calm down and let's not break the chairs, we don't have a lot of those.

WTF is this? Why did you(admins) make many of the designers here to create a new logo then? What will all of these efforts do? If you say what effort, just look at how many times I edited my entry post, If it's under 40, ban my account forever. And look at all these other efforts. There are many other efforts here which will multiply my efforts for many times.
And for the competition, you gave your word, you said this:
You may not use a logo from this contest but at least announce a winner, and give a beta key as a price so everyone will be happy. This is way too lower than placing it as a logo, but I think it'll make the winner happy at least. Also admins said this is a possibility before(not a must, just a possibility):
You started this contest, you promised you'll give a prize, so I say at least give a prize.
It is rather understandable for both sides though. We did unfortunately come under new management between the contest. But...The contestants have a valid complaint as well. For the record I was also a contestant.

I think it's only fair that a winning entry be chosen and compensated in some form, even if not in the way previously specified. However given the 'legal' situation, I doubt we will see that outcome. There was no legal binding contract, the new site owner(s) has no obligation to honor a site contest started by the previous owner(s), and therefore there isn't much we entrants can do about it. In this regard, we are subject to the wishes of the site's new owner(s).
For the record if you re-read all that, I said if we got more fan invites, which we haven't. Also Boub didn't start the competition and now that he's in charge things have changed since we're getting a site redesign.
We're not going to name anyone has a winner or potential winners. I'm sorry but I don't think that would do any good and just make the others feel more alienated. All of your efforts are greatly appreciated and I enjoyed looking through all of them but with a redesign now in the works (it wasn't when this started) using one just isn't an option.

Anyway, I'm totally in for some radical redesign!
