Hello to every Diablo Fan out there! After noticing a few introduction posts popping up in the last couple of hours, I started to feel it was borderline rude from me not to have introduced myself. So...eh, ehm...here goes.
Hi there, I'm Marcus and I'm a semi-long-time reader of Diablo Fans. I have been jumping in here to devour yet more Diablo related info ever since D3 has been announced. However, recently, I have noticed an onslaught of topics and posts that I felt the need to reply to and thus, finally, I have dragged my lazy, game-torn fingers over to the keyboard to register.
I am what you could call a devoted Diablo gamer, having played through Diablo 1 multiple times, running scared like a little kid - but then again, I WAS a little kid. When Diablo 2 came out, I was so wholly sucked in by the epicness that up until about a year back, the game stuck with me to no end. Apart from several periods when I just had to take a rest from the game for a few months, Diablo 2 and LOD has been my (almost) daily bread for around 8-9 years. First, in my teen years, I played the game casually, testing out various skills just for the heck of it, paying no heed to serious gaming and simply running through normal just for the fun of reaching level 30 and screwing up my build just that little bit more for the perfect mixture of death defyingly miserable attribute allocation and as many skills on as low a level as one's mind can handle.
Finally taking a more dedicated approach to the game after about 4-5 years of playing, I have set out on the mission to finish the game properly (i.e. on all difficulties with all characters without tweaking in any way). After many years of trials and errors in trying to get the perfect build (or at least a build that could survive for a period longer than 20 minutes on Hell) I have finally completed my voyage a year ago...and suddenly found myself ridden of what was almost my life's purpose :-D After accidentally discovering and playing through Hellfire (also almost accidentaly), I wholly set my sight on what I'm sure will be the future of my gaming for at least the next decade...Diablo 3.
So here I am, filled with eloquent archaic English phrases that I considered quite common until my English teachers told me otherwise, my head crammed with Diablo quotes that for me are so automated at this point they almost lack any meaning, just waiting for my next fix of that wonderfully addictive gaming experience. So, um, yeah...just, just my way to say "Hi!" :whistling:

You actually sound like you have a very similar story with Diablo that I do. I use to just play casually enjoying normal with hundreds of play throughs, venturing into nightmare only when I particularly liked a build.
About a year ago, I decided that I wouldn't be a true Dfan if i never beat the game through hell. So, I recently beat it with a pally and a wind druid through hell on SP. I was going to continue with other classes but I don't have much free time.

I'm quite sure it would have me scared stiff every time my health globe drops below 1/3  I always found the idea somewhat frustrating to be honest, not because of the daunting difficulty, but unfortunately because of the various WTF moments the game has put me through over the years (fire enchanted lightning bugs anyone?). I think except for one death against the Hell ancients (Talic's fire explosion bug this time) my Amazon actually made it through all the difficulties without dying. I had incredible luck on gear though (Demon' Arch just as I was having trouble with Immune to physical + lightning, raven frost before the ice caves etc.) Now that some of the stuff is fixed I may bring myself to try that someday out of pure nostalgia.

Nice to hear we have similar gaming styles:smile: Maybe we can co-op in D3 one day  I must say it is really tough with some classes, assassin and druid probably being the toughest for me. I'm sure there are some pretty powerful builds out there but since I insisted on training and experiencing the various builds myself, I never really hit the best configuration (and of course, since none of my stuff is traded over the b.net, I can't get some of the necessary gear). I sure hope you get to playing a summoner necromancer. A lot of the time on hell, I was getting really frustrated with some of my chars. With necro...well, I practically lauged histerically the whole time
You can try a few mods of D2 if you want to try something a little bit different.
Sacrilage! No, seriously, I have such reverence for the game that even though I'm absolutely positive there are some awesome mods that could provide me with bzillions hours of fun, I just can't bring myself to jeopardize the pristine perfection of that game
Just today I listened to some of the sound files that appeared here on the site. I can't believe how many jewels I overlooked in all those years.
"So this is daylight...eh. It's overrated."
And don't even get me started on Alkor. Who would have thought that cranky old geezer, who's stuffed permanently in that old shack of his right on the other side of the city than where I usually shop, could crack out such brilliant gags. He had me in tears...seriously. I hope D3 has some similar hidden treasures for those who seek. And for once I hope I find them myself

How did you beat the ancients on Hell with a summonmancer. This is something that always confused me. If/when I do it with a necro, I was planning on going bone.
Also, feel free to share your builds with me and everyone. You can also upload your build on our wiki: Class Builds (Diablo II)
I assume these were all SP builds?

It has been a awhile since I played a summonmancer in vanilla D2. I would think Clay Golem and Decrepify would slow the Ancients enough to allow your skeletons and Merc to slaughter them and depending on what monster you revived they can kill quite well. Mages would make a good support summon.

On Strike and supporting Fallout 4 Mod Makers

Hello to every Diablo Fan out there! After noticing a few introduction posts popping up in the last couple of hours, I started to feel it was borderline rude from me not to have introduced myself. So...eh, ehm...here goes.
That's right, cave in to peer pressure already :sorcerer:
I have noticed an onslaught of topics and posts that I felt the need to reply to and thus, finally, I have dragged my lazy, game-torn fingers over to the keyboard to register.
Indeed, a mighty... two threads by the looks of your post count. Still, it is more than most lurkers (okok, it is more than all lurkers), so it's good enough.
Finally taking a more dedicated approach to the game after about 4-5 years of playing, I have set out on the mission to finish the game properly (i.e. on all difficulties with all characters without tweaking in any way).
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.
Supporting big shoulderpads and flashy armor since 2004.

Yes, well, I read through some interesting posts that I felt I could contribute to, but sadly because of lack of time (damn exams) I didn't get round to registering and typing something until those threads were somewhat "passé" :ermm:
As for my fave class...that's a tough one. I would have to say...ummm...necromancer, since just from the selection screen this guy grabbed my attention the most and I have been struggling to make a solid necro ever since. I failed a lot (venonmancers just didn't work the way I planned :ermm: ) but in the end it payed off incredibly.
As for the builds, I'd post them gladly as I'm keen to hear what you think about some of them. Maybe I'll even include the gear just for the heck of it  As for the acients, I was surprised myself but they barely did a thing. Decrepify plus the swarm of undead plus one heck of a mercenary with Bonehew in hands (yes, I had to have it socketed and get a Hel rune in that thing for the idiot to use it!) were simply too much. They did however kill more of my minions than any other encounter in the game. Baal in comparison didn't even cast a single spell...for some reason when he was constantly frozen and decrepified, he always did the casting animation like every 8 seconds...and no spell came out  I'll get working on those builds straight away...dang, I just joined and am already in the middle of the commotion...or...at least...the outer brink of it.

If you would like to post them up in the build section of the wiki I'd be overjoyed. The fact that they're done for singleplayer is even more interesting. It's quite easy to do and I'd be happy to help you out with it if you want to.

Alright, here goes. Note that I have played most of the time with patch 1.10 (or 1.10s) and only about half a year after finishing the game with all characters I updated to 1.13. Thus I was given the option to respec all my skills which I, unfortunately, did. Thus these are more like the ideal builds rather than the exact builds I used. The changes were more cosmetic than anything else but two major changes stand out that I will mention in those respective builds (assassin, paladin). I'll be adding in the list of items as well (except for charms), and screenshots for the items where the name doesn't suffice. Since all these characters are strictly SP and untwinked, if you stumble upon an item I used and ask "Why in the world would anybody use that?", it's simply that I had bad luck on that item and simply didn't find anything better (or didn't have the nerve to gamble for an hour).
The allocated number of points in avoid, evade, dodge was slightly higher before 1.13 and Valkyrie was thus on a lower level when I played this character.
Gear
Harlequin Crest
Nokozan Relic
Demon's Arch
The Ward
Skin of the Vipermagi (+ Tir Rune)
String of Ears
Raven Frost
Emerald Greaves of Luck (just for the MF...my Amazon had incredible luck on stuff even befor that) Havoc Knuckle Death Whorl
In the other set of weapons: Headstriker (purely for Prevent Monster Heal)
There was a major change in this build after 1.13. Previously I poured points into Cloak of Shadows equally with my other skills of Phoenix Strike, Dragon Talon and Shadow Master, (got it somewhere like lvl 17 or so) but in the end it made little difference and the enemies were usually dead long before the Cloak expired so I reallocated the points to the aforementioned skills instead. It was however still one of my most used skills. I dare say I depended on it throughout the game. Don't be fooled by the poor damage of the attack, with Tiger Strike fully charged, the Dragon Talon's fist kick dealt somewhere around 4000 damage IIRC (the other three about 2000 dmg in total).
Gear
Duskdeep (+ Jewel with +something to all resists)
Chromatic Amulet
Crescent Moon (War Sword) (wouldn't get through the Hell Ancients without it!!)
Rhyme (Grim Shield)
Skin of the Vipermagi Grim Loop Shadow Touch Hailstone Hold Grim Lash Loath Track
(Balanced Knife of Amplify Damage in the other weapon setting against the stronger Immune to Phys monsters)
Barbarian Hireling:
Skin of the Flayed One
Scintillating Circlet of the Sentinel
Swordguard
The number of points allocated into Summon Resist and Golem Mastery was slightly higher. After 1.13 I used those extra skill points to boost the Fire Golem directly instead.
Gear
This character wasn't gear dependant at all. No need for resists, armor or the like since the cca 30 minions I had around me took care of everything. Thus I dedicated most of my items to +skills and magic find to get better gear for my Might Spearman.
Andariel's Visage Corruption Talisman
The Vile Husk (upgraded to Balrog Blade via Horadric Cube; no more fear of Unravellers)
Cloudcrack
Skullder's Ire (sometimes swapped with Dusk Shroud against cold enchanted)
Sander's Taboo
String of Ears Dread Spiral Order Loop
Tearhaunch
Blackhorn's Face Ghoul Beads
Griswold's Heart (+Ko,Io,Io)
Dangoon's Teaching (+Amn) (sometimes swapped with Black (Battle Hammer) against fast aggresive enemies with strong regen...crushing blow and knockback neutralised them; this weapon single-handedly carried me through nightmare since Nightmare Arcane Senctuary)
Rhyme (Gilded Shield - had around + 70 to all resists in total)
Immortal King's Detail
Scintillating Ring of Fortune Blood Band
War Traveller
Lore (Wolf Head with +2 to Molten Boulder, +1 to Werebear and +1 to Werewolf)
Gaean Amulet of the Vampire
Smoke (Chaos Armor)
Earthshaker (+ Io) HELL YEAH!!!
Rhyme (Round Shield) Gale Claw Doom Circle
Coral Ring Glyph Strap Grim Tread

I'll give it a shot tomorrow. I'm kind of tired now...the last post took ages with all the images and stuff. I'm sure there was some easier way to do it but...what's done is done. In case I get stuck and I don't know what to do with the wiki, I'll PM you or ask here on this thread, ok?
My builds are far from the best; a few of my characters really struggled and died a lot sometimes because of the fire enchanted bug, sometimes because they just came across a really tough section, but I'll post them anyway. Heck, I could upload the characters somewhere for others to try them out on their own

Alright, I have to admit I don't know what to do. I have logged on to the diablo wiki and found the builds section. However I don't know how to add a new build to the list and am unsure what to do if I want to add in another build to an already existing archetype (my amazon for example is practically a javazon from the looks of it).
Alright, Elementalist Druid is in the wiki. Only when typing it all up did I realise how dreadfully confusing that build is but anyway...it's in :whistling: It could definitely use some formatting but I can't seem to figure out how to make those neat tables or post pictures directly on the page etc. If anybody would like to help me out with that, I'd be really grateful

There was a major change in this build after 1.13. Previously, I have allocated about 14 points to Fist of Heavens in the foolish hope that it might actually deal some solid damage. As we all know, that's BS and I used it practically only to finish off Fire Enchanted bosses from afar. I had a major regret about having wasted so many points, so after 1.13, I have removed the skill completely and instead boosted up Zeal and Holy Shield. Here is a little illustration what my character was actually about (hint: look at the defense rating)
Blackhorn's Face
