Try dueling on hardcore, and consistently winning, MEANWHILE maintaining your high lvl and xping on a regular basis... that'll wet your taste buds.
I did, but everyone just town hugs or sits by their tp. The second they even might take damage they run in, tp, or just leave; it's absolutely pointless.
? The only thing I experience is picking up ears lol
Hardcore was not all about Cookie Cutter builds, it was about having that extra stress in gameplay making it gripping to play, even more so when you played experimental build making it even greater to have victory.
Yea uh huh. Tell me how many pure Bone Necros you saw, or how many melee sorcs, or charged strike amazons. At least for me, there was nothing gripping to the game play. You die, you lose your levels but your buddy would salvage all your gear and you can easily remake your character in a few hours.
Like others mentioned once you seriously played Hardcore it was impossible to go back to softcore it felt so pointless
I couldn't wait to go back to SC. HC felt so pointless; what else is there to do when you can kill Hell Baal? You can't go PvP; you can't go farm keys for Pandemonium event; you can't do anything that you haven't already done a million times in SC.
Well the difference for me is that I played purely Single Player Hardcore in Diablo 2 and will continue that into Diablo 3, so I've never been interested in PvP or duel's in the Diablo series, i'm all about builds and items. But the "you can't do anything you haven't already done in SC doesn't really hold any water, thats a fundamental game design problem not Hardcore problem itself. Once you have done so much of a game you will eventually "run out of things to do" regardless of SC or HC.
At a basic level you cannot argue that HC is less intense then SC, forget pvp forget, boss fights, forget mf runs they are all general game decisions on what you prefer to do. The simple fact is HC IS a GREATER challenge BY GAME DESIGN to play, and some people enjoy that challenge thus making it a BETTER game to them personally.
HC gives the feeling that your character Means something(like he/she special), and progression it self have its own much bigger value then on sc. As well as Items that u find.
U can of course play sc for some testing or w/ever.
P.S.: My imho that BLizz gives opportunity for HC players to play arena as well as sc.
But leave Deadly duels as it is in d2.
edit - I WANT a RMAH on HC because of the fact there will A L W A Y S be a premium on top tier items due to the fact that there WILL in fact be player deaths, and item deletion, thus keeping the value high, and a chance to make some good cash while enjoying the game... People still paypal for D2 HCC items $100+ bucks for a solid item ie 304 martel I found... I mean that's 2 hours of real work for me but still, why not make some dough enjoying the game? I really think it'd be good for the HC economy to be honest.
I agree with this 100%, and also - if Blizzard puts in the RMAH for softcore but not hardcore, the sites they are trying to "squash" will still be around because of the hardcore player base. It will not be as convenient, and as such probably not as lucrative, but hardcore items will always have the upper hand in terms of value. This is why I was one of the upset when the RMAH was announced and excluded from hardcore.
Hardcore is the only real way to play the game, but with no RMAH I am truly stuck on whether to play HC and forego the RMAH or play SC and work the RMAH like I know I can.

Also real Hardcore players killed Nil.
Like others mentioned once you seriously played Hardcore it was impossible to go back to softcore it felt so pointless, next to no repercussions to death unless you were going for a lvl99 or something.
The REAL diablo experience is Hardcore.

I had a 90-something WW barb that died to whirlwinding through a pack of oblivion knights (in NORMAL mind you) who decided to cast IM on me just before I finished the WW. Good thing that didn't actually kill me..... the ranged auto-attack from a random Oblivion Knight that I did not get with my WW did.
That said, Hell Nilathak was not too difficult with proper positioning and pulling - but he still made your nerves ache and heart rate jump through the roof every time you fought him.... similar in nature to (but on a much grander scale than) the final mini-boss before Baal.
I did not play long enough to start farming Annihilus charms or what not, stopped at 1.09
Duriel as a hardcore player gave you nightmares, one of the most deadly bosses... you keep asking yourself am I strong enough yet? Maybe I should go grind some more.
Hardcore players kill everything, every little bit of experience is another level that might just keep you alive. With the changes to the TP and game quitting I think Hardcore has just taken a long look at itself, and decided to man the fuck up even more than it had already.
lol @ this - I was level 20 before killing Andariel most of the time, and 30+ before Duriel. Yeah, I was a hardcore player through and through.... I watched people go down into Duriels room at 14 and get insta-killed by load lag (fun times) and laugh as I went down and my merc tanked for me.
It was this kind of leveling that hardcore players (early on) did to be safe. My barbarian that died in normal Chaos Sanc was 20+ after act 1, and 30+ after act 2, because of how attached I was to him. When he died, I decided to go frenzy barb 2h axe wielding instead. Yeah, no exploration et.al. WW barbs were risky (because of what happened to me), but so much fun - ESPECIALLY in hardcore.
I resurrected my account just cause this entire discussion seemed crazy...
HC and SC characters don't compete together, theres no point in comparing the two as they will never interact... I don't see how any diablo fan wouldn't want additional aspects of the game to explore... Hell, if the set of unique items for HC and SC were completely non-intersecting I'd be happy with that, its like 2 different game experiences.
How SC players could get their panties in a bunch about HC, when they have no intention of playing it is beyond me, and I think were the situation reversed HC players would be just as uptight about not having some impressive SC only item. Both parties have lost sight of the fact that HC doesnt impact SC and SC doesnt impact HC, play whatever you like best.
Personally I hope there are hardcore only items, and softcore only items, this would make my personal experience better because then it wouldnt be like playing the exact same game in SC as in HC, I'd get little differences to look forward to in each.
Looking forward to it and likely there will be many times where you will mentally fight the urge to use your best weapon or best armour... just in case you do get permakilled :).. but how can you feel confident of defeating the hordes of demons without your precious piece of shiny loot?? heheh well there lies part of the fun of HC gameplay for me
I also think a lot of ppl will not play HC with public groups... mostly due to the fact they might die because of someone else's mistakes so reliable friends will be much more important...
I'm a bit of a sissy HC player, in the sense that I will start with by playing softcore until I have a general idea of what to expect from Inferno difficulty. As soon as I'm done with that, it's hardcore all the way.
One thing to remember is that once you experience the adrenaline rush of almost dying in hardcore mode, it's very (if not impossible) to enjoy softcore after that. Atleast it was for me.
Duriel as a hardcore player gave you nightmares, one of the most deadly bosses... you keep asking yourself am I strong enough yet? Maybe I should go grind some more.

Agreed
Why would I make this up? Lol I could care less...
