I just don't get why that dev team has struggled all these years and only produced a bare-bones arpg at release. They had so much to pull from and improve and they ended up with a very diluted game. Great combat and visuals and not much else. It could be amazing, but I'll just wait until the expansions to see if they sort their problems out.
They want the game to be great, but they don;t seem to agree on what that is. Even at the basic level of design.
They catered to the idea that a lot of players would get through act 4 normal and stop and it shows.
I don't even know what to say about this. When I realized that itemization was so bad back not long after release, I would never have guessed it would take two years to see *significant improvement.
Go kill yourself, Diablo 3. You fucking slow minded sloth motherfucker.
I personally don't have a problem with them taking this long at all. The problem is they take a LONG time for these big patches and they end up screwing it up and/or create more problems. With so little content released with the game they need to do something to keep me going. Farming items is worthless, Ubers is only fun every once in awhile, and paragon leveling is about the only thing you can do. I need more content to play or more items to farm.
"We calculated how much damage monsters needed to do for Inferno...", that clearly means they didn't test inferno properly. Not that we don't know that by now.. just saying.
I felt like punching myself in the god damn face when I found out about this.
I feel very strongly that this console endeavor is stepping in the way of a more expeditious retooling of itemization. That makes me a very sad panda.
Y'all please excuse me. I just had dental surgery to remove excess bone from my upper jaw and I have gratuitous amounts of sand in my vagina. I'm a huge supporter of this game. I just didn't think a redo of itemization would be so long off. I'm an exceedingly patient person, and have been so in regard to Diablo 3.
My patience took a rather large blow with this news. Makes me not even want to play a game that I've really enjoyed, just knowing that significant change may be a FUCKING YEAR away. Another year for items....really? I'm just going to walk away from this train-wreck for some time.

I'm not sure where you read one year.
All I read was that the patch won't be live til after Blizzcon. That's 5 months. If you're going to tack on 7 months to that and make yourself more upset, that's your perogative... but it's not going to have good results!
5 months isn't good news at all. But DOUBLING IT in your mind is not going to do anything, at all.
I guess I could go back and play Diablo 2 for 5-6 months... or maybe just jump ship entirely and play PoE. At least those developers release speedy updates and arent afraid to fundamentally change the game..

Good, good... let the rage flow through you, young padawan...
Thankfully someone shares the amount of frustration I got from this.

Certainly not until Blizzcon, on Blizzard standards, means that we probably won't see it by the end of the year. Certainly not until Blizzcon means that they're not confident they can do this in 5 months (which IS a lot of time).
And I doubt they won't take a break at the end of the year (as they do every year) to test and release this. They might also be very busy fixing bugs on the console version, so who knows.
So, best case scenario, considering we probably will see a long lasting PTR for such a big change, we would be seeing this by February/March next year. Best case scenario, in my humble and sad opinion.
One thing I am highly annoyed at is that this information was not/still has not been put up on D3 forums officially by Blizzard. - Or the thread that is in their hot topics list has not had an official blue comment yet..
I remember that they wanted to increase the amount of Developer Journals/Updates on what they are working on... Blizzard is just Beliel in disguise.
List of things that people have wanted or waited for since release: Rant coming...
PVP - Brawling =band aid bull sh#t fix.
End Game Content - Inferno (not tested on release properly), Monster Power is not content, Bosses drop crap loot still, Paragon levelling (band aid). Then we had Ubers which was a step in the right direction but still not enough by any means.
Enchanting - Nothing.
Character Customisation - I look like you and have same skills as you.. Yay i feel unique!
Ladder system - I don’t want it but plenty do.. - blizzard response "we have talked about it". Just make a god damn Self-found Endless Dungeon Ladder mode(separate from the story/ACTS) for those people. Solved
Skill/Rune improvements - YOU HAVE A FUCKING PTR BLIZZARD, USE IT! radically change the power of underpowered skills/runes and you have an arsenal of elite players at your disposal for testing. Instead they opt to double life regen of skills for an entire patch...
It just feels like they work on each of these half-assed, release band aid fixes and move onto another one on the list for a while..

It ain't happening until 2014, that's what I took from the information available. I'm with Zero on this. Guessing Spring/late spring 2014. It's the console shit that's draining the resources needed to fix the PC versions terribad items. Teasing me with their dumb shit console-only items is only making the rage worse.
I certainly haven't given up on D3. But I am walking away for a minute to reaccess whether or not Diablo 3 is worth fucking around with anymore. I'm done waiting on it. It can wait on me.
Sometimes I just don't get why companies such as Riot can bring out patches every 2-3 weeks but Blizzard can't. I know LoL is a much smaller game, and they obviously need to focus more on balance because of the competitive nature of the game.
Still, I just can't stop having the feeling that the Diablo 3 Live-design-team consists of less than 5 people. I mean honestly - how long does it take a few people to do a first pass on the items, get feedback, and reiterate a few times?
Then again, I have never understood why Diablo 2 had such a huge variance in skill viability (so many weak skills), even after the synergies had been added.
I love the Diablo World and D3 has a lot of cool aspects - but I haven't been playing for months because the game is just unfinished.
Haven`t played in months, checked today to see if there are any news.
Welcome back.
How many months? If you haven't played since 1.08 (or even 1.07) just give it a shot, it's really kinda fun. Try random monster slaying public games on your favorite MP, or go to areas you previously neglected because of mob density, and craft new stuff (1.07 stuff that is). Took a ~5 months break as well (semi-forced due to work) and having a blast since I came back.
I guess I could go back and play Diablo 2 for 5-6 months... or maybe just jump ship entirely and play PoE. At least those developers release speedy updates and arent afraid to fundamentally change the game..
That's because no one gives a shit about their game. xD

I might start a self-found Hardcore character soon. Just gotta gather some survival tips and make sure my internet isn't gonna have any hiccups. The frustration would kill my desire to play for a looong time.
There is so much poison in this thread, I now regret going back to read every post.
Here's a thing, and I'm not trying to insult Blizzard or anything. But by now, people who have paid any attention to Blizzard's way of putting out products and services should have realized that they don't release things until they're ready. And instead of releasing something they (as an entertainment company) feel isn't ready, they straight up won't release it. I'm looking at you Starcraft: Ghost.
Well that depends entirely on what you feel constitutes "ready", doesn't it? To me, D3 wasn't ready because it suffered from crippling design flaws that should have been apparent to experienced designers and developers. When patches come out for a game that reverse the initial design intent, that should tell you the game wasn't ready. Oh, and patch 1.08 showed that Blizzard is perfectly willing to throw in changes whether they're ready or not.
And while many consider Diablo III to be "incomplete" or still in "beta," it's a fully functional game. In regards to patches, this is the same deal. We've seen how long it took for some patches to come out, even weeks or months after a blog was published. Or how long PTR sessions last before the actual patch hits the live servers.
Thsi is an apologist's take on Blizzard's handling of D3. Yeah, D3 loads just fine on my computer. I guess that means it's fully functional and I shouldn't gripe about anything. And what is your point regarding how long it takes for patches to come out?
PvP in whole may not be ready, which is why it's not out (IIRC PvP was meant to be released in patch 1.1. We're in patch 1.08). However, brawling was ready and that was released first. Speaking optimistically, you can't rule out that some "aspect" of revamped itemization can be released before the next major overhaul a la 1.03 legendaries. We can be disappointed, but that's not going to change anything. Gameplay comes first and that's what they're working on. They're committed to quality and there's no such thing as quality without time put in. Even if time means months after months.
Soon™
Again, more rose-coloured specs. PvP, as in Team Deathmatch, was ready. Or at least that's what Blizzard told us. But in their arrogance they said it wasn't enough fun, so they withheld it from us and gave us Brawling. Which also isn't very much fun...
It's not gameplay that they're working on either. The actual mechanics of D3 are one of it's few shining points.
The D3 community has yelled at Blizzard since the summer of 2012. This infographic was released in August 2012 - http://i.imgur.com/zkPUu.jpg.
And it's not like all the patches have been glorious bursts of innovation either. The 1.03 legendary patch un-sucked some legendaries, but left the vast bulk largely in the same sorry-ass state they were in at release. It also did nothing for itemization in general, only reversing the view that Bashiok had infamously espoused - "randomly rolled rares are intended to be BIS gear". Lol.
The Uber patch and the most recent density patch have been warmly received, if only because the former gave us something other than paragon farming to do, and the latter because it gave us other places in which to paragon farm. So... yeah we're pretty much doing the same thing we have been doing since the paragon system was introduced.
Itemization still sucks, the endgame is lacking, the UI is lacking, Brawling isn't PvP, skills still need a rework. All this well over a year after release.
It would have been nice had Blizzard held to the standards you claim they do in the spring of 2012. We'd have much less to bitch about had D3 come out near the end of 2012.
I might start a self-found Hardcore character soon. Just gotta gather some survival tips and make sure my internet isn't gonna have any hiccups. The frustration would kill my desire to play for a looong time.
Imo it is the best experience D3 has to offer gameplay wise, even though the current loot distribution is not designed for the self-found characters. It's flaws and shortcomings becomes quite evident as you try to progress further into the game. On the other hand, I've never been so excited to see a rare upgrade drop than on hardcore self-found. A very satisfying feeling, that is perhaps the heart & soul of a good ARPG.
If Blizzard could somehow work it out to have a separate loot distribution system for a self-found ladder in the expansion, that would be the biggest improvement they ever could have implemented to the game. Still, it's not something to be very hopeful about, because it seems that they are trying to figure out a way to keep the AH relevant and make farming items viable, most probably by making the higher level legendaries bound on account.
