Diablo 2 - 99 levels.
Diablo 3 - "We aren't going to do 99 levels. We're going to do 60."
Patch 1.0.4 - "Okay, here's 100 more levels."
Diablo 2 - No DR on MF at launch. Patch gave DR to MF.
Diablo 3 - No DR on MF at launch. They will remove MF entirely.
They aren't removing it, they're makign it easier to get while helping players stay powerful while having it. They are trying to move away from MF ON GEAR but it will still exist on your character. Since it will take some time to get these levels, you still have reasons for having a MF set untill paragon level 100. This is also on a per-character basis so any alts you have will enjoy the MF as well.

You still won't admit they made the same mistake, 11 years later.
You still won't admit they made the same mistake, 11 years later.
Probably because they didn't think it was a mistake. Maybe they thought it wouldn't be a problem with a whole new game and new gaming mentality. Too bad it turned out to be.
I think the real important part is the 300 cap pre neph valor.
They said nothing about shrine but I'm going to guess like neph valor thats over cap.
What that means is while 100 is not attainable quickly what about 50?
150 mf/gf is not bad leaving 150 for your gear.
Good pieces of mf gear will still be very valuable while the helm/amulet + another piece is all you need, replacing one of those mf pieces though will take 6 paragon levels which just might be enough time to find that elusive upgrade.
On the other hand, +Exp gear is suddenly going to become veeeeeery popular...
Assuming that both ruby socketed to your helmet and +exp on gear works:
4500 exp per phasebeast + 3375 from nv + 1395 from star ruby (worth 20M) + 352 from gear (yes, flat - that's the maximum according to http://www.d3rmt.com...-maximum-values already including merc) = 9622 (9270 without +exp gear)
Thus ruby makes up for 14.5% of the total earned xp and a full set of +exp gear only adds 3.7%. Is the latter really worth basically exchanging all your pieces? I hardly doubt that. That's 1.086.510 vs 1.127.767 killed mobs or a total difference of only 41.257 kills.
Some guy mentioned it, you won't find +exp gear on high ilvls, thus you'll have to use subpar low affix pieces further crippling your killspeed, can't enjoy the new legendaries with their +skills or fancy setboni...
To the 600h /played boy: 2500h sounds good to me, giving us an almost unobtainable goal - something to work over time. Even if you keep playing at your pace that's another full year of fun, great! And for the rest of us it should be enough until the expansion hits the shops.
Hmm, I see. Didn't know about the stat not rolling. Well, according to your math it's not worth it anyway. Which is all for the better.
You still won't admit they made the same mistake, 11 years later.
I'm not sure what mistake they've made again that I'm missing...
Are we talking about "doing things one way then having to double back and change it"? That's just bound to happen at some point. It's hard to predict the way things are going to go sometimes. You go with what you think is the path people want then you find out their oppinions weren't what you thought so you change it in order to make it right. It can't be called the same mistake because it's technically a different issue they were wrong about.
Maybe I'm missing something here... I usually will admit I'm wrong when I can see it, but I'm just not seeing it here.
They made a different mistake, and like a rational, reasonable company, they made a change that improved upon their mistakes, thus acknowledging it wasn't (and they aren't) perfect.
At least I know I'm not crazy if someone else doesn't think there was a "same mistake" made.
So you don't think no DR on MF is that big of a deal?
It's like they went backwards in that regard is what I'm saying. I know the the levels of MF in D2 were much higher, and they probably thought that if they limited the max available MF to a lower number they would be fine. It didn't work out that way.
I can see where they may have thought it would work, but it clearly didn't. 11 years of development, and the players found out for them within a few months.

Well there's a difference between a Diminishing Return and a Cap. Now I'm not sure how much MF you could get in regular diablo 2, it is true you could get insane numbers of MF with LoD. Of course, without knowing the inate drop rate of items, it's hard to say if the 300% is sufficent or not. Of course this is just paragon+gear, with NF you can get 375% and a shrine will make that 400%. This is, of course, still lower than LoD in regards to pure MF percentage, but it doesn't seem to suffer from a Diminishing Return like Diablo 2's MF did. At least, no one has put up any numbers to substantiate this claim.
I can see where they may have thought it would work, but it clearly didn't. 11 years of development, and the players found out for them within a few months.
So they had an idea... a slight change... that didn't work, was identified by the players, acknowledged by the devs, and fixed all within 2 1/2 months of launch.
Sounds like something we probably should bitch about more. Damn them bastards!

Like I said earlier in another thread, I'll give the patch a shot. If it's still bad (in my opinion), then that will probably be it.
There are other things I don't like about the game, that won't change, such as the story and Diablo's voice, so it's not just the loot that gives me a bad taste for it. But, I'm willing to try because I want it to be a good game. I want to have fun with it.

No, we should continue to make excuses for them. Damn those who call a spade a spade!
What Jay meant to say: "We know you all wanted to work on leveling to 99 while looking for lootz, but we dropped that ball. So here's 100 more levels for you! Also, we have no earthly idea how the team at Blizzard North made their magic find system work so flawlessly, so here's some MF with those levels, so we can remove MF from items, because we are clueless of how to make it work."
Reason why it worked flawlessly:
Only stats i ever cared for in D2:
+All Skills
+Class Skills
+Magic Find
+All Resists
+Faster Cast Rate (but that had a cap...)
..There were no main stats (that mattered...) and no main dps stats. ... I basically wasnt losing anything from having MF on gear. So why not.
The MF system back then wouldve sucked too if the OTHER stats didnt sucks...
I think magic should have never made a return in d3 from the get go. It's idiotic, makes you weaker, takes you even longer to kill monsters, switching from real gear to mf gear is a pain in the ass.
What do I care tho I stopped playing about 2 months ago.
With the reveal of the paragon system they created a cap of 300% MF. Which is obtainable at level 100 paragon. So Magic find on gear I now believe is just a worthless stat. I imagine it will take about 30-45 hours TOPS to get to level 100 Paragon. Which is obtainable easily in less than a week. Unless someone has some other information, I believe it will be the end of magic find.
Thoughts?
<3 Nimo
Lol@30-60 hours to complete it.
To put it into perspective, you need to kill roughly 8,000,000 enemies to reach the cap of Paragon Level 100. I have 300 hours played, I have 115,000 life time kills.
Granted some of that was afk/sleeping/chatting, still... 10 BILLION xp is no small amount.
For a non-hardcore player that has a family and can only play a few hours a week, this is a fantastic change. I have been hoping for a system that allows players that cannot farm to get gear as their only "end game" to have some sort of other goal to achieve that will eventually make them strong enough to progress through the Acts. Leveling through Act 1 will make people who cannot find the right gear to get them over the hump able to achieve that through increasing their stats through "leveling", to a certain extent. That and all of the drop changes they made, I am really happy with the changes.
The only question that I have is...for those of us that enjoy multiple characters, does the Paragon level "stay with your character," or is it account wide?
Also keep in mind that if you farm the way most of us have been the past month with the NV stacks and clearing 10+ packs you will be getting +75% EXP after you get 5 stacks, which is pretty significant. Might want to look into putting my leveling helm on that can give +bonus EXP instead of my MF gem in there...could get more out of it.
hmmm .. I guess it will take someone here that actually lvl'd a toon in D2 to 99 to see if you 30-45 estimate is accurate. My guess is that you are not even close.
Yes. Where did you get your 30-45 hour estimate OP? It sounds to me as though you simply made it up without... you know, thinking. Did you look at the level chart? It will take far longer than that.
