It's been a few days since I have played D3. Part of the reason is lack of interest. I felt like I was playing to grind gold to buy better equipment from the AH more than I was playing for my character. Then I started wondering how this was different from D2. For one, in D2 you had a chance to make your character better by what dropped in game. Whether it was a better rune or those trinkets that you kept in your bags to boost stats. So I began thinking on how we could apply a D2 style into D3 without interfering with the AH.

D2 Mode would work something like this.
1. All characters in D2 Mode are offline playable and cannot be brought into any public (online) games.
2. Items/gold found in D2 Mode cannot be sold on the AH
3. Items can only be traded between players with characters who are both in D2 Mode.
4. Item drops (Rare, Legendary, Sets) will have their drop chance increased. To offset removal of AH shopping.
So, offline play which means no Auction House, which brings the game closer to the feel and replayability of Diablo 2.
Honestly I don't really care for the AH either, but my simple solution to that problem was not to use it... I occasionally break and maybe buy one or two things, but that's on me and my willpower at the time, however I mostly avoid. it Is it really that hard? The game is 100% playable without it.
Might have mislabeled "online". Should have said private games (offline solo or online generated games with friends that are playing this new mode) vs. public games
I'd be willing to give Path of Exile a try. I have been trying to watch some videos of it in action but my crappy work internet connection can't get any videos to buffer/load.

I'm not going to bash on your idea itself, saying I don't like it or anything.
I'm just going to leave it here that implementing something remotely similar to what you suggested would certainly take an absurd amount of tweaking to the game client, and definitely would be a huge technical challenge to the team, without even mentioning the whole internal testing that something like this would have to go through.
So, I might be crazy, others can correct me if I am, the chances of something like this happening is less than a legendary dropping (0,0001% ? :P)
I was going to close this, as it will probably lead to another "D2 vs D3" or "D3 sucks" discussion, but I'll let it open for now. Just know that debating whether or not the idea is good doesn't change the fact that the team will very likely not make it happen (it's like discussing whether Unicorns can solve world hunger when they don't even exist).

It would also expose a LOT of server code by allowing a single-player offline mode. If you think the hacks/bots/dupes are bad now then you probably don't want to see what they look like after all the people who play this game for $$$ have that information.
I know people don't believe it, but not allowing hackers to see server code does severely limit how the game can be hacked.

Hate to break it to you
I don't want to play D3 Your Life Depends on Auction House Purchases Edition
But thanks for contributing to the discussion.
What.
Except for it is also online only. But I agree - PoE has D2 mood.
[edit] Reminds me that I still have two closed beta keys. OP, can share one with you if you want.
When does PoE plan on being released?
Sent you PM.
