How many Diablo 3 players do you think went back and played D2, or were even playing PC games back in 2000? Probably not very many. But when you have huge games like the ones I mentioned above, D3 fails in comparison. With the hardcore fans, who were expecting Diablo 2 on steroids, better graphics, improved everything else, were left with this broken, "test as we go" version of the game.
So your amazing criticism is... the graphics aren't good enough.. even though they weren't game breaking for D1 or D2. You also seem to think D2 was a smooth launch without any issues and seem to forgot about all the QQ about the exact same BS from D1 transitioning to D2. Like I said stop saying you played D2 from the start you have no idea what your talking about.

Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
I notice everyone is comparing alot of the features that Diablo 3 lacks, in it's infancy, to what Diablo 2 had in it's age, development, and expansion.
Give them time. It's been one MONTH. Games don't evolve and update like magic overnight.
To the comment of the map randomization:
Yes, the maps were bigger in Diablo 1 and 2, and more randomized, in a sense, but equally, there was far more "pointless construction" to them. How many pointless, doorless, dead-end hallways did you need in a man-made building? Also, Diablo 1 and 2 were developed using sprites. Sprites are alot easier to manipulate than a fully 3D rendered world. They had to structure the world somehow, and then made it so the content within each section was randomized from a pool of "tiles" that would fill out the map each time it is seeded. Bigger is not always better. This is also partly why the game seems "lighter" in a sense of lighting... they had it darker previously, but the way that light works in a 3D environment is alot different than a sprite-based one, and it was making the game very hard to visually see everything, without turning your gamma way up (which shouldn't be needed by everyone).
Right, they had since 2002 to brainstorm, then say around 2007-2008 to start building the game (PC graphics jumped up at this point). It's not like D2 came out 2 years ago, Diablo 3 shouldn't need a "feeling itself out" phase. I understand bugs and all of that, which is normal with any game, but this is one that should have had STRONG ideas to implement starting years ago.
I honestly think the huge surge of MMORPG's is one of the biggest comparison's to any game coming out like Diablo 3. I mean, Skyrim (I haven't played), is still going strong, tons of new content coming out, and mostly because it is just a larger game with more to do.
I tried Skyrim. Yes, big world... it's a big, EMPTY world though. It didn't even captivate me. Skyrim has been out since November, Diablo since May... how much content did Skyrim get in it's first month? How much since then? And how much did you have to pay for (I believe this one is answered with "All official DLC")? Third-party, fan-made mods are at a total exclusion IMO, cause that isn't content from the developer.

What I do know is that when Skyrim came out, there wasn't a huge set of die hard Oblivion fans complaining in official forums and demanding immediate patches for what they thought were game breaking problems. That right there shows a stronger development phase, and probably listening to the public since Oblivion was released in order to make sure and improve their next product.
I never said D3 graphics weren't good, I never said I was unhappy with them, I never even brought up Diablo 1 or 2 graphics! I don't care about graphics in this type of game, I have my settings on low for D3 because I need to upgrade my CPU, this way I can play smoothly for the most part.
Stop telling me what I was or wasn't doing back in 2000.
What does it matter. Diablo 3 was released as a single player game with a co-op component. There are people that have dumped 200+ hours into the game, farmed gold and items so they could gear up with the best gear they possibly could and are now upset because they feel they didn't get their money's worth. Their 200 hours of entertainment for $60 just isn't enough. There needs to be more!
Well, there's not... that's the game folks. Perhaps it's time to stop pointing the finger at Blizzard and start looking at yourself if you're bored with the game. Diablo 3 is not the -only- game out there. Play something else, take a break, quit the game... Stop trying so hard to make the game into something it isn't.
Someone who understands!
People don't get it that your ability to consume products grows with experience, skill, and age. Think back 12 years ago. How quickly did you demolish the latest N64, PSOne, or PC title? Go back and play that game now, and tell me how much more quick and efficient you were at it. I will almost guarantee you will shave hours off your gameplay, complete it under-geared/powered, collect stuff ahead of schedule (cause you know how to handle obstacles or puzzles better), and in general, just demolish it based on skill and experience, NOT because the game was made more poorly.
Games are made with the intent of being accessible to a new player (to a relative point of course). If games were marketed exclusively for the highly-experienced, highly-skilled, life-time gamers, the industry would be barely kept afloat, cause that crew of us, is SMALL. We might be vocal, but there sure isn't alot of us in comparison to the rest of those playing casually. For fun.
Fun... there is that evil word that most people don't understand the concept of. Fun is when you enjoy something. If it is not fun, stop doing it. If you see something wrong with something that should be fun, don't just complain about it, consolidate your issue in a constructive manner, and provide feedback.
Complaining that "this game sucks, that game is better" etc. is not constructive. Saying "I don't feel this system works well because of...." and giving a well-thought out and formal reason WHY something isn't so good, IS constructive.
I notice everyone is comparing alot of the features that Diablo 3 lacks, in it's infancy, to what Diablo 2 had in it's age, development, and expansion.

The only thing broken was inferno mode, everything up to Hell was just fine. Now they are fixing it, yes they really did drop the ball on that, no go /wrists because its the end of the world.
EDIT: I forgot random maps... those do really suck they f'upped that.

That's not entirely true.
The Blizzard North team began working on D3 in 2001. Blizzard North became defunct in 2005. New people had to come in and take over the project and take it in a whole new direction, as it's been mentioned that Blizzard North actually wanted to go the MMO route with D3. So, to simply say that they've been working on it for 11 years is exceptionally misleading.
I expected much more from the release myself, but I'm not going to fault Jay Wilson for having to step in and deal with re-doing the work that others left either. That is life, that is business. Everything cannot be perfect, and sometimes things are much less. You'd be a fool to think that they're not hard at work trying to make everything better, though.
Frankly, I'm hugely pleased with the graphics/artwork. I never really liked the D2 graphics, and even if the D3 graphics caused us to lose some randomization of maps I really like how they look. Although the pony level makes my retinas burn, I think that was by design.
To beat inferno before the 1.03 nerfs required 150 hours of gameplay off me. And I enjoyed myself immensly. It was very hard, very demanding and gave a lot of satisfaction. It is quite a bit easier now, but I still think it's fun.
Not many games out there make you enjoy 150 hours of gameplay. I am sure I will play a lot more as well. Diablo 2 was very limited when it first came out. I look forward to all the things they will add to Diablo 3.
The one thing I miss is having no level cap. Gaining something other than gear felt good in previous Diablos. However I presume they could never balance pvp without an easily reachable level cap.
You seem to be the most level headed in this thread so far. I haven't played D3 as long as you, fine, but I didn't need to beat the game 3 times before I realized that I was tired of going through the same motions. Yes, collecting runes would be nice, other types of trinkets or whatever to socket or charms or something to give you other abilities beyond the skill set and normal attributes. Automatic fright or blindness or hypnosis when monsters see you coming...something along those lines would be interesting.
Oh, and games with a TON of hours would be Morrowwind(sp?), Oblivion, Skyrim, WoW, Battlefield 2/3, Starcraft 1/2.
Different genres I know, but you get what I'm saying, there are games out there that give you the chance to play forever, if you wanted to.
Baldurs gate series was also really fun for me, especially when you added in certain mods later on.
That aside....my theory on why is there so much hate? It's because diablo 3 has gone the madden approach. What's the madden approach you ask? It's the removal of systems from previous years in order to use them as a selling point later on.
Here's some examples:
Mystic = Cut
Socketing = Cut
Death animations = Cut
Imbue = Cut
Quest rewards = only gold/exp...really? after all this time, that's all they could think of?
Item affixes(cant be frozen? cast on hit etc = Cut
Legendary Items = mostly terrible (yes I know patch is coming for buff but I don't see how they could have missed that in testing)
Skulls/diamonds/saphires = Cut
Charms/Jewels/Runes = Cut
Monster variation in areas, similar to patch 1.10 and on = Cut
Many skills seem untested (my opinion)
Dueling = Cut (yes I know arena, possibly team only...is a few months away)
Only 10 character slots, you can't even have more than 1 of each class if you want to play all of them on HC/SC
Not enough stash space to fit sets/uniques/leveling gear etc...
Blizz talks about how tons of builds would be viable and then if you play hardcore or don't want to die 1000x times on SC, you get pigeon holed
Terrible mfing/crafting
The sad part is that there is many more items that could be added to that list which is where alot of the hate/disappointment comes from. D3 did improve on some areas and by itself, is still entertaining for a while. The fact still remains that it's a stepback in many ways from D2 and it's frustrating to hear the, "wait till they add expansions/patches, it took d2 10 years to get where it is!". Long story short, I feel that with the years of experience they had, D3 should have been an immediate improvement in all of those areas and sadly, it is not.

First valid post against D3 (in this thread). While you are right on most aspects we can't assume that an entirely new team with a different background is going to reproduce similar results and have immediate improvements. By this thinking there should never be any defects in the automotive industry because they SHOULD know everything from before, new model = new problems, simple as that.
EDIT: I was hoping for more but were stuck with the product we have and I know in time it will be "better".

Playing Diablo since 97. I know nothing and having nothing good to say, I be a troll.
You can’t be number one forever anyway, so I really don’t see a big deal.
As for replay value, did you beat the game on normal and then quit? If so then yes you didn’t get your money’s worth. Did you play all the way to inferno (with or without beating inferno)? Then I would like to point out that you (re)played Diablo 3 at least 3 times (if you only have one character), and you spent at least 100 hours on your first character (unless you exploited and/or paid real money for goods and services). ANY game that can give you that much game is worth $60.
Now that you’ve spent 100+ hours maxing out your first character you said you don’t know the reason for additional farming? Well let me list some things off the top of my head in response to this rather asinine remark/question.
First and foremost, we can all conclude from this remark that Diablo 3 is the first game of the Diablo series you played. Not that this is your fault, you merely jumped on the band wagon not really knowing what type of game this is.
You farm to get gear for 5 more potential characters you can create. I find that the sheer diversity of hundreds of deferent builds each class potentially has to be very enjoyable. It seems like you are playing the game for the first time every time you change up a build and/or re-gear.
You farm for the PVP coming in the near future.
You farm to sell gear to save gold to buy even better items that you have now because you don’t have “best in slot” for every piece of equipment you have – I can guarantee that.
I have 2 characters, Barbarian and Demon Hunter (main), with a combined total of over 150 hours of game play and I am still farming for the perfect gear for my main. I haven’t even touched on the other 3 classes yet either. So, if you rushed all the way to the end of the game, good for you. That isn’t what Diablo is all about.
“After beating Diablo 3 inferno what is there left to do?” Well, I don’t know. What do you do when you “beat” ANY OTHER game? You play it again or you move on to the next. Good riddance, see you around.
Baldurs gate series was also really fun for me, especially when you added in certain mods later on.

The problem with that logic is this. Most new models of vehicles will have issues with parts/changes to the model which is understandable. They however are going to keep in features such as cruise control, air conditioning, cd player etc,
The way I see it, graphics/story/classes are part of the model of a game. There will be bugs, disagreements on taste etc. Socketing, imbue etc are features. There's no reason to get rid of them when they make gameplay better whereas features of car make the car experience more enjoyable. If blizzard could give me a legit answer besides "we didn't think it was polished enough" or "we thought it was tedious", then ok. I highly doubt however that they could give good reasoning to it.
For fuck sake with QQ threads.
If you don't like the game, just fucking quit it or stop complaining.
is there anything normal we can read on the forums except this garbage ?
Are you feeling better swimming in the void of QQ, getting supported by more QQ'ers ? You feeling bad to cry alone and need to get supported by million of other tears ?
Game is currently fucked up, after some time it will get fixed. Live with it or quit. Bye. ffs
You're on the Euro gamespot? In the US, it isn't on the list.
Gamespot and Xfire don't mean a damned thing, anyway.
Well, since those are casual gaming sites, and if Diablo 3 isn't on a top 10 list, that must mean that the general PC community is losing interest.
By that logic, Diablo 2 must have been forgotten within months of release.......
Comparing the releases of Diablo 2 and 3 shouldn't even be brought up...there wasn't a decade of anticipation between Diablo 1 and Diablo 2. There were other games similar to Diablo around 2000 also, Baldurs Gate being the best one, Divine Divinity, Never Winter Nights....
If you put in 100 hours of play, you've paid approximately $0.60 per hour for entertainment. For comparison's sake, you pay ~$3.00 or more per hour for a movie. Jack that even higher for bigger events like live shows, carnivals, etc.
You can’t be number one forever anyway, so I really don’t see a big deal.

Who is this aimed at? Not me, I'm certain, if so, you didn't read my OP.
I didn't need to play through the game 3 times to realize what I was doing was boring and dull. If Act 1 was different each time I played, then yea I might want to play it again.

EDIT: I was hoping for more but were stuck with the product we have and I know in time it will be "better".
“After beating Diablo 3 inferno what is there left to do?” Well, I don’t know. What do you do when you “beat” ANY OTHER game? You play it again or you move on to the next. Good riddance, see you around.
Bye. ffs
More reality checks at 11.
I didn't need to play through the game 3 times to realize what I was doing was boring and dull. If Act 1 was different each time I played, then yea I might want to play it again.
