Hey guys.
One thing that confuses me about the game is the gold needed to finish it then what?
People spend millions of gold to get the gear to finish Inferno then go back and farm areas for more gold and better items but for what reason?
The game is finished, what do you need more gold and better items for?
Whimsy is just the same so I dont get it.
I can understand why people farm prior and during Inferno but once its all said and done after the Diablo fight whats the point?
You can farm a zillion gold to buy what?
You can get better gear to beat who?
I've just gone through each act 4 times to finish the game, there is no fifth, and in honestly its rare you would play any game more than 1 or 2 times after completing it little alone 4 times.
So to me once Inferno is over I just dont see the point of farming and gearing up.

A big part of the Diablo game is making your character stronger and stronger. The hunt for the perfect gear. That isn't done just because you've finished the last boss on the last difficulty. There's also 5 different classes to play, as well as Hardcore mode.
Now that's certainly not for everyone. If you don't see any point of continuing after having killed Diablo on Inferno, then by all means consider the game finished and move on to something else.
The other issue I have is the AH, why put a low level item say pre lvl 40 on auction for 36 hours?
In 36 hours I'am going to be like 10 or so levels ahead of where I was when I put that bid down, I dont need it anymore.
If you want to sell lower gear stuff have a buy out price so you can sell it and I can buy it.
Sure there will be expansions but how longs the game been out now?
People are farming gear/gold thinking of that already?
And I dont know if it is fun playing the same stuff again and again, maybe a challenge moreso to get through Inferno but after that there is no point.
I play roughly 6 or more hours a day so I enjoy what it gives me, a feeling of achievement.
But for me I can see a finish line.

Your question is quite universal to some games. You beat the last raid boss in WoW, why do you keep doing the old raids again for gear every week? You already beat the final boss? Why play runescape when you have 99 in all skills, you can't level anything else? Why play maplestory when your max level, all your doing is grinding for better gear?
These types of games are meant to be farming intensive. Just because you beat the big evil guy doesn't mean game over buy another $60 game to waste more time with. People enjoy these farming base games to try to achieve the perfect gear. Diablo 3 is meant to be beaten pretty easily, but the real challenge is farming for the perfect gear and/or achieving what you did on softcore to hardcore.
Apparently OP you never played diablo 2 pre 1.10 or any gear driven game for that matter if your asking these questions. Why I myself play these games should not be your question. Why YOU YOURSELF play these games should be. If you cant justify playing these types of games for yourself why would our answers serve to justify them for you?

Mate I have no idea what you just said.
I play games for entertainment not a way of life.
And Abu you wasted 10 seconds of your life replying to my thread, your comments were worthless as well with no substance.
Guys I just wanted constructive criticism not rubbish, I have a similar post on another forum that actually had relevant information given as feedback.
If you dont agree for the sake of not agreeing then please find something else to do.

For me, waiting for guild wars 2. Gearing up as much as possible to make act 3/4 easy to farm, then anything I find sell it for cash even if its 5euro. Just need that damn release date from arenanet.
Perhaps i should have been a little more clear. Your question that stood out to me the most was "People spend millions of gold to get the gear to finish Inferno then go back and farm areas for more gold and better items but for what reason?"
You then finish the post by stating that you see the game as done once you have beaten Inferno.
What i got from these two points was you asking for justification to continue playing the game hence my answer.
I too play games as a form of entertainment granted i play more than the avg person i know.
Im sorry if my original post was a little confusing but you asked questions that only really you can answer for yourself
As to not replaying games more than a couple times. if you dont play them more than a couple times thats fine and your choice as an individual however there are hundreds of games ive played through dozens of times. Final Fantasy 1-10 Every Zelda game ever created 8 years of diablo 2 just to name a few

His post was perfectly clear and summed it up well. Why are you asking me why I play the game? Ask yourself why you are playing it. And if you can't come up with a reasonable answer to that, it's time to quit and/or find another game.
Ok well it seems the original core of this thread has either been completely missed or misunderstood.
If you have finished Inferno why spend time farming for better gear?
If you want to spend a week farming for that best of helm or a week farming to get enough gold to buy one thats great.
The first blue helm you pick up from a trash mob in any new expansion will have better stats so knock yourself out.
If your doing it to make money why, what do you plan to buy with it?
Oh thats right..better gear..you need it for.....again any blue item will have better stats in an expansion.
WoW is a good example of that.
No I'am not going to pay you 10,000,000 for that helm, I'am not playing to make anyone rich.
You could try playing the game using ability and good gear as opposed to buying your way through it.
I saw some guy on Youtube beat the Butcher on Inferno in 3 seconds, wonder how much it cost him to buy the gear or how many weeks to farm it.
Maybe make the game originally a little longer than 30 levels, which is all it really is, that might have made it a lot more interesting.
The time it took to make you would think that could have happened.
I'am a gamer, I play for fun, I play for entertainment.
I'am just sorry a lot of you seem to be lost with that.

You've answered your own question. Some people simply find the quest for better gear fun and entertaining, like playing the slots at a casino. Your inability to understand what they're saying stems from you not finding said quest fun and hence assuming that it isn't fun for everyone else too. They really should teach objectivity in schools.
Based on your observations, OP, like how the game should be longer, cause you hit level 30 (the mid-way mark in Experience) at the end of the storyline (Normal), devalues it... you clearly have never played this style of game at all (Diablo, Diablo 2, Titan's Quest, Torchlight, etc.).
The act of farming better gear to you seems to be a wasted point with you. You don;t like the idea? Cool. So this style of game isn't for you. Feel free to move on. Others, like myself, enjoy it. We actually derive entertainment from the process of min/maxxing our characters, to squeeze out every last 0.1 of DPS or 0.01% damage reduction. Anything to make our character better. And that is us. That doesn't have to be you. Find another game you can enjoy, for the reasons you want to enjoy it.
Personally, when it comes to video games for me, and I've been gaming for almost 25 years now, the games I want to own, are the ones I can go back to and play again, and enjoy again, should the interest arise. If a game lacks any replay value to me, then I have little interest in wanting to own it. Video games are not cheap, and should be an investment towards your entertainment. Some people might like to pay $60 for a single game, play it for 20-40 hours, beat the game, and call it a day, maybe pick it up again in 6 months or something. Myself, I greatly prefer being able to spend said $60 on a game, that I can play, beat, and go back and replay it again... and again... and again. Whether the replay value is because of additional unlocks like Chrono Trigger's New Game + mode, or just for the gameplay and storyline of Breath of Fire 3, or even the challenge of Diablo's Hardcore Mode, it is additional value to the game.
Well pvp will eventually come out. But like you said, I really had no motivation to play the game after I killed inferno diablo. I really wanted to like this game more than I did, but oh well. I ended selling my gear for over $200 so at least I made a little money off playing the game.
On the whole D2 thing, I just don't find farming in D3 fun at all, and for some reason I did in D2. I guess it may be that in D3 I feel like I am farming gold and not gear. Maybe I will come back for the pvp, who knows.
Well Zero I'am similar to you, been placing since I was 10 and into my 40's now.
I have favorite games but no I dont go back and play them, not this style of game anyway.
To me theres no point doing that, I enjoyed the experience at the time but the game finished and that was that.
Thats what D3 is, sorry but thats my opinion and it wont change.
I have one of each class so my goal, and we all have goals trying to reach a final target, is to have one of each toon finish the game at Inferno.
Once thats done then I go play something else.
I dont need that god like helm anymore that will be replaced next expansion.

But you ave the answer you seek now. Why do those of us who have killed Diablo keep playing? Cause we find some aspect of it fun.
Some play to min/max. Some play to try and make some money (be it RM or Gold) on the AH. Some people Just got nothing else better to do right now (see those who made mention of waiting on GW2).
Everyone has their level of interests. I won't play much of any FPS game, as it just doesn't interest me. But if that is what someone else enjoys, more power to em. Have fun.
