"Diablo 3's endgame is far, far more dynamic, intricate and engaging than D2's was. You just... can't argue that farming 1 extremely easy boss over and over again is anywhere near better than farming whole acts at a time, with different encounters along the way every playthrough."
Dynamic? How exactly, please elaborate.
He said how it was dynamic: You get the best loot by chaining fights against different kinds of Champions with different skill sets sprawled over entire levels within time limits of each other. The fight changes from pack to pack, some harder, some not.
D2 was not dynamic, it's static: You get the best loot by fighting bosses who have the same resistances/minions/skills every time you face them. You solve the same riddle every time you get to it. There is zero variation in the enemy (the boss) and once he's dead, you reload the game to do him again.
There was many things you could and did in between runs. You traded, , dueled, mulled, experimented with different runewords because a lot of them were equal in many different ways, rushed your friends, chatted on b.net etc. Idk about you but I leveled to my lvl 95 barb maybe in 1-2 months, didn't regret it all because it wasn't the only thing I was doing, I was getting actual good drops, many times different drops that I could trade for different things, not just equipment.
I trade, mule, experiment with builds, rush my friends and chat in D3. That leaves duels and runes, and PvP is coming so you're just down to runes. Yes it was kinda interesting to "create" a piece of gear through materials (runes) you gathered in the world, if only the kept that feature in. Luckily they did but they renamed it and grossly undertuned it. Just as some of the best runewords were added later, so the blacksmithing shall be fixed. So that's all of those points countered.
2000: D2 Launch
2003: Synergies, first global rebalance, 70+ leveling penalties, doubled runeword lists, doubled recipe totals, Uber Diablo.
2005: Pandimonium Event.
2008: You don't need the CD in the drive to play. 2010: Respecs.
The game most of us loved in D2 took years to come about. Jake even said he started after most of these things were in the game so I imagine when most people say "Diablo 2 was better than Diablo 3", they're talking about "2005 Diablo 2 was better than Diablo 3", which I might accept, but I'm still leaning towards D3.
Basically it was the nuances and variety that made Diablo 2 sexy. Diablo 3 simply got dumbed down to hell.
Again, it tooks years for most of those beloved "nuances" to get put into the game. I posit that week #2 of Diablo 3 was better than year #2 for Diablo 2.
1. Are you serious? How does it change? All you're doing is kite>die>kite>die>repair>kite>die>get shit loot, hurray. Even if you're doing everything right, it's impossible to not die at least once. Yes, the animations etc are pretty and stuff, but that's it. The only way Diablo 3 is better than Diablo 2 at it's current form is the graphics/animations(skills/spells etc), I'd say the skill system does provide more of a tactical approach, but the way we're forced into one build right now pretty much dwarfes that, most 'runes' on skills are useless. Stat system is horrid. Maybe I want to increase energy(maximum fury) on my barb on certain level ups. And the elites are just annoying, their affixes are just annoying in different ways. I mean that's the only thing that really changes, is it going to be extra fast douches with firewalk and fire chains and vortex or is it going to be extra fast douches with freeze bomb, fire chains, and firewalk. Oh how dynamic, hurray! Even the environment is more randomized in D2. Yes, D3 has some edge over D2 by having the randomized events, but it's like 1-2 events per area. In normal, that is fine, because you do tend to explore more. Later, you just don't care and rarely even come on one. Even if you do, they're just there for looks, you don't really get anything worth while. And the path is mostly the same, the end objective is always located in the same direction the entire time, kinda like the monastery in tamoe highlands in d2. Diablo 2's elites/bosses are still somehow funner to farm, it's sad really. I'm doing baal runs as we speak right now, and taking couple of breaks, why am I not doing Iskatu runs or elite runs in Diablo 3, explain that to me? It's not nostalgia, it's just THAT boring and unrewarding.
2. You can't possibly trade like it used to be, because you can't create games that other people see in the lobby, which is also nonexistent. But yeah, you can trade when already in-game. But that is NOT the same thing, lol. It's more of a personal auction house when there is only 3 other people that hear you and it's mostly gold for item instead of runes/other items/equipment for vice versa. Blizzard did this so that we mostly depend on the AH and the RMAH(which is laughable), I mean it's plain as day light that was the reason for taking out lobby and freedom on creating/joining and browsing games. They want something back in return nonestop, $60 one time payment is not enough for them, it must be milked, financial stream must remain secure at all times even if at expense of their fanbase.
Wth is there to mule even? Everything is shared. Like I said, everything is dumbed down in this game. From stats to small things like identifying and teleporting. Why even identify an item really? When you have infinite invisible identity scrolls and TP scrolls. The TP system just adds to the more anti-social element in D3. Or why am I repairing at the common bartender or merchant and not at the blacksmith? The game's tiny nuances show how lost the team was when developing this game. "Oh we'll add the repair option to the bartender so that people must walk more and visit other places and listening to the dumbest dialogue ever so it doesn't become repetative and boring". The game feels rushed, why did it take them 6-7 years to develop it?
Chat is not the same as well, you can't even create channels. Believe it or not but b.net 1.0 has less bot spam in public channels than Diablo 3 does now, LOL. Back then you could chat to anyone, even get trades going just like that or runs for gold or the hellforge etc. Here it's just derp. I didn't even notice there was a chat the first time I installed the game. I only found out about it on the forums. Even beta D3 chat was more noticible. Everything blizzard does now is make the games more simple, anti-social and just improve their revenue stream by all means necessary. How you people don't see it is BEYOND me. Once I login, it feels so cold and remote just like SC2 was in the beginning. There is no community inside the game like there was in Diablo 2. We could even create our own clan channels ffs.
3. Oh so if Diablo 2 made the mistake, let's do the same. Point is that back then Diablo 2 improved a whole lot from Diablo 1. I played the demo and already then saw huge potential and it wasn't even boring. I did endless andy runs, lol.
Blizzard had more than 6 years to see what was wrong and went wrong at the start and not make the same mistake, they already had a successful foundation on which to build up on. Instead they dumbed the game down in many aspects. And you guys sit here saying, "oh look it happened to D2, so why should we be worried here lol derp I feelz so calm now :DD". Blizzard is jerking us around. The entire Diablo 3 development was centered on the RMAH, that's why it took so long for them to release this game, that's why they take out the social aspect, the free trading aspect out, even the chat experience. And RMAH is not even operational yet. Be there no shitstorm of pissed off fans, they would wait another year just to implement it prefectly. BLIZZARD DOESN'T CARE ANYMORE. Since 2008, they have been going down hill even in WoW(which I don't play but I hear of it's suckage from couple friends), SC2, the new battle.net 2.0 and now this. All they will do is nerf, nerf the sh*t out of everything and then say, 'see, its balanced, enjoy. Now just pay these 60 bucks for the expansion, it has new content :)'. Personally I find it disgusting! So, yeah, lets wait YEARS for Diablo 3 to come about. Diablo 3's release is even worse than Diablo 2's was.
How long did it take to develop Diablo 3 and how long did it take to develop Diablo 2? Even at that, Diablo 3 had a foundation left by the Blizz north team that left. This is utterly pathetic.
Me writing such long paragraphs pretty much proves how upset I am as a Diablo fan. That says something and there are similar posting on the game's official forums. But I won't argue anymore, it seems pointless really.
Kinda wierd with all the "Inferno is fine, if you don't like it go play something els" posts, seeing that far under 1% has actually hit inferno and prolly even less that's past act 1...
You gotta be freakin' deranged to think inferno is fine as it is now! Yeah maybe some classes are doing better than others but if ur playing a barb or a monk past act one, ur pretty much screwed unless ur sitting on shitloads of gold or the "best" items available at the moment..
Unless you wanna corpse-run and just skip every pack and kill bosses, this game is pretty much downright boring in it's current state.
Only thing you can do is just find a good farm spot and wait it out because vortex/teleports champions are plain stupid.
Don't get me wrong, I love when it's difficult but this is just difficult in the wrong and least fun way..
Just my 2 cents.
You have five other classes to play the game with, sync them up and the game gets "easier" in the sense that you will getting gear that is "useful" for you. Having seen what can happen with items of the same level regarding stats range randomization, it is pretty much normal that is pretty hard to come by what you really need.
Having one class or five, doesn't make it any more rewarding... At best it will kill some time while you wait for some fixes but in my opinion, thats not what makes a game fun!
Don't even get me started on legendary/uniques! After hitting level 60 nothing feels rewarding and if you don't agree, ur lying!
Just wanted to tell you I read your entire post, and have little to add/counter, but it was a good read, and I agree with most of what you say. It just comes down to, the important resource here is time, like you said, and I think they miss used it. Its especially obvious when you have 10 overhauls of the skill system in a row and a point where they started from scratch after years of work.
I understand the concept of creating a game is way more complex than just putting every gigantic ideas you can think of in it, but I definitively think they could have done more with the time they had.
With any luck, they will in the future, use their expansions for major improvements/overhauls.
I'll leave that -chance- to this game regardless of what I say, but I won't hide my opinions of the moment just because it might change. (like some people here think we should be doing)
God help me for throwing my hat in this ring but some of the stuff i have to comment on.
There are a lot of vaild opinions in here and I won't invalidate them, but my own is that right now I am digging the game. Do I wish the loot would be better as it dropped for me? Yes but there are ways around it and finding a good farm spot is nice when it isn't the same boss over and over. This time the elite is a fast-waller-horde, ok. Next time desecrator-jailer-arcane, come at me bro, this makes me think and learn more dimensions of my character than I had already learned about.
As for the whole "make a game with your trade wants in it" I have found between 'General' and 'Trade Chat' I have made a few good deals on some stuff people post on there, if you can avoid the spambots(my biggest complaint). Just link it up with what you're looking for, or heck use the forums here or b.net to advertise, it can still be done. I would rather not just sit in a empty game hoping someone sees it and stops in.
I played D2 for years and spent so much time on it that yes I have fond memories of it. But this is an entirely new experience and is a nice way to move Diablo as a series forward. The future patches and expansions will only make this better as most of the time Blizz's game have been improved.
But if they could just tweak the loot system a bit it would be nice.
I love how all of the Blizzard fanboys are still trying so hard to latch onto their dream that Diablo 3 is better then Diablo 2.
Let's see,
People STILL play private games over public games by a TON (Something most of you said would be different in D3)
Hell isn't hard at all, if anything it is even easier then Diablo 2. After 1 little upgrade of gear I went from dying every now and again, to face planting everything with no regard.
Itemization blows, uniques are worthless, set items are insanely hard to find, and magics and rares dominate the playing field easily.
PvM is well lack luster, been there done that. Can fly through the game and hit max level with no problem, and they honestly expect me to sit there and waste my time trying to grind through inferno? Inferno follows the same shitty set up that the other difficulties do, gear up and faceplant it.
Good thing this game owns D2 though, ha. Good luck keeping this garbage running for half the time D2 did and is.
Better hope the PvP patch is better then what they have shown so far, otherwise I can't see many sticking around. Nothing challenging or remotely addicting in this game once you hit max level.
I love how all of the Blizzard fanboys are still trying so hard to latch onto their dream that Diablo 3 is better then Diablo 2.
As soon as you say something as ridiculous as "blizzard fanboys" I know not to keep reading. I love this game. I also loved D2....those are the only two Bliz games I've ever played.
If you don't like it....fine. Stop trying to convince others not to like it.

But if he stops, he won't get the validation of his own insecurities, ruksak.
While I can understand some people not liking the endgame, I feel that it is sufficient endgame for me because I'm still in Hell. Though I wouldn't mind them adding like Inferno only quests that give a much tougher challenge than current Inferno. Maybe like an infinite dungeon that gives you better loot as you get further down. But also gets more difficult as you progress.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I don't always burn. But when I do, I use hellfire.

lol....well if it's any consolation to him, I AM a Diablo fanboy...................guilty!
lol....well if it's any consolation to him, I AM a Diablo fanboy...................guilty!
I just find it quite funny that the whole crowd that was all talking about "Oh, Blizzard will make Inferno too easy!" is now calling for nerfs, and the game's not even been out two weeks, even after Jay warning people that they wouldn't be able to do it that fast. Sure, some have chain-died and chain-resurrected their way to finish the quests and the act-bosses, but that's not the same thing at all.
Fact is, there's really *seven* difficulties in D3. Act II in Inferno is to Act I Inferno as Hell is to Nightmare, so it's Normal, Nightmare, Hell, and Inferno Acts I-IV as the seven difficulties. You're not going to just linearly clear that. You're going to have to farm between each Act of Inferno to make it all work w/o the 'wonder skills' that are being nerfed.

The thing is, everyone posting that thought they were gonna be the elite guy smashing through the game laughing at all the newbs who couldn't do it. Now that isn't the case and since they get facerolled, it means the game must be nerfed. I'll agree that a few things such as some of the useless skills and items need to be changed around but I find it hard to believe that they wont change some of it just based on d2s history. All of that aside, for those of you actually trying to say d2 is harder, that's laughable, people were beating hell mode in less than a day, my record being between 14-15 hours with a sorc start to finish from scratch. Try playing HARDCORE mode on d3, it's ridiculous fun/challenging.
Skyrim end game sucks, I mean after you beat the story, i started over on the next difficulty, yeah took longer, but when I beat it, there was nothing else to do.
That;s right, you killed the lords of hell several times on several difficulties, and guess what, that's the game, that's it. The only thing to do is to perfect your gear, and guess what, that's how we knew the game was going to be.
Diablo 2 was more about skills and interesting items than this game is.
Made my day..... *sarcastic golf clap*
99.9% of people playing D3 most likely have played another diablo, or blizzard game...
Ya'll are seriously suprised at this?
If it wasn't for the AH and the free MF buff (that I can see being nerfed soon), then everybody would still be farming hell mode and wiping or glitching their way through Inferno... As it is now, (wizard, as an example) get some 1k dps blue weapon cheap on the AH, stack int in every other slot and you kill anything before it touches you.... Wait, why does that sound like D2?
PS..... forum search hates me apparently.. someone PM me where to get the stuff for pony level.. Only know of mushroom/bell. D:
1. But the thing is that you will die anyway, no matter what, even if you're a total pro. It's a turn off, honestly. It's like WoW.
Hardcore must REALLY suck in D3. In D2 you can actually die if you make a fatal mistake in combat. And no I'm not talking about end-game boss/elite runs.
2. I hope so.
3. I don't hate the elites in Diablo 3, they're just an annoyance to me. Two different things.
4. Yes, gold and that's pretty much it. Even if a rare drops, it sucks 95% of the time. I even had whites dropped as reward, WHITE ITEMS, BRO! Talk about useless. It's a one time thing. There is no real incentive in hunting for the events.
Numbers speak louder than words. The vocal majority is disappointed by this game. You can see it everywhere. It's a shit-storm. I was on the blizzard-defense-league wagon 5 days ago and now I realize how bad it is. If they would've named it 'Azmodan' or some other title then I wouldn't be so upset. This was supposed to be a Diablo game. It's FUBAR.
5. Why not just implement smaller charms that take one space in the inventory, why completely take them out, or the super good ones that take 3 spaces in the inventory? Stats are hard enough as it is to squeeze in. This would've been a great balance and would add to the variety of itemization in game.
So by that lazy logic, let's take out health potions as well. It's such a drag running around collecting pots, going to vendors to buy them. Let's just have a key pressed every 20 seconds to heal. But they did give some way to that laziness by adding the health globes :D.
In D2 you actually had great incentive in saving Cain in act 1 quest 3. He would identify everything for you at 0 cost and all at once. Or you bought the books if you're on the go, your choice. There was work that paid off. Here it's so lazy and simplified that I wonder why does the ESRB rating is an 'M' instead of an 'E'.
6. Glad we agree on the chat somehow.
7. 'For instance if RMAH does give them money then there is much more incentive to patch, add new features, improve on complaints and add new content to keep players in the game.' - oh come on. Why in the first place is that the only way they will get incentive to do anything for us. That's so redundant. We already paid for the game, not a half-assed open beta test, sorry to say.
8. The only possible tedious complication would be the RMAH, that's it. They had experience, they had a successful foundation to go from, they had almost a decade to develop the game. They pretty much took almost everything that wasn't broken in the previous installment and scrapped it, WoW-ified it and sold it. WoW is like their only mindset now, they don't know how to do anything different. They think WoW's mechanics, dialogue and graphics is a standard for every single game they release. There is 10 million subs, so we must be doing something right, derp.
Here is a thread on official forums of how much of a bummer the end game really is. http://us.battle.net...opic/5151722468
4 days ago, that OP would've had his head turn off by multiple fans for disrespecting Diablo 3 and blizzard's infinite wisdom, but look how many people agree and say the same thing. The beginning is fun, sure, like any game. But that's it. I don't know what blizzard was even thinking with the RMAH, who will even use it? Not even Chinese farmers ffs.
Some kid on forums yesterday wrote, 'Diablo 3 is great, I will be playing this game for 5+ years', the whole friggin thread laughed. We thought he was trolling. That's how much a joke the 'longevity' in the D3 is. It's not anywhere close to where D2 is.
lol....well if it's any consolation to him, I AM a Diablo fanboy...................guilty!

Whos calling for nerfs? The shit was beaten in less then a week. All it takes is to run past mobs and get to the bosses, it isn't even hard ha. It is all about gear, and nothing with skill. Get some res all gear and high vita and decent dps and Inferno is same old shit.
I just love how all you were saying it would take MONTHS to beat, MONTHS...was beat in less then a week. It would take WEEKS to hit 60...60 in a day tops.
Like I said, better hope PvP is good, cause the PvM is pretty shit end game.

Try playing hardcore, then come back and post that, Also, the gear part seems to remind me of d2 that only took about 14 hours to beat on hell mode on hardcore....
I don't waste time quoting excerpts from tl;dr posts anymore, I'm already wasting enough time as it is arguing with people in denial. Besides, it was self-explanatory of what I was responding to, no need to be a format nazi about it.
You will understand what I'm saying in a couple of days. The game is not made for replayability. No matter how faithful of a blizzard fan you are, it is inevitable that it will get horribly boring. And I doubt you'll keep logging on just to stick it to the 'haters'. I personally fear of logging back in due to that I might actually fall asleep on my chair for the first time i my life.

You have five other classes to play the game with, sync them up and the game gets "easier" in the sense that you will getting gear that is "useful" for you. Having seen what can happen with items of the same level regarding stats range randomization, it is pretty much normal that is pretty hard to come by what you really need.
Don't even get me started on legendary/uniques! After hitting level 60 nothing feels rewarding and if you don't agree, ur lying!
Let's see,
People STILL play private games over public games by a TON (Something most of you said would be different in D3)
As soon as you say something as ridiculous as "blizzard fanboys" I know not to keep reading. I love this game. I also loved D2....those are the only two Bliz games I've ever played.
If you don't like it....fine. Stop trying to convince others not to like it.

But if he stops, he won't get the validation of his own insecurities, ruksak.
lol....well if it's any consolation to him, I AM a Diablo fanboy...................guilty!

That;s right, you killed the lords of hell several times on several difficulties, and guess what, that's the game, that's it. The only thing to do is to perfect your gear, and guess what, that's how we knew the game was going to be.

Weird.....I think the game is tits.....I love it and I can tell I'll be playing for about 8 more years.
Ii'm sorry you didn't like it though.
