You can still get new skills. But regarding items imagine situation that you are grinding around and after a year you have found your lvl 60 ubber item and you are so happy when 1 day later they release an expansion and your ubber items is not ubber anymore and you have only two options now of either grinding for another year just to meet another expansion or to buy new ubbers on RAHM if you want them to stay ubber. I think it would suck, don't you ?
You're right I'd rather get a new expansion with no new items at all...
What a ridiculous hypothetical situation, are you actually saying you don't want to see newer and better items in the expansion, because you don't want to have to try to earn them.
Can you even read what I wrote! Do you want to get an item which is useless as soon as you find it as it was replaced by a new $%^£& difficult to find another item from the expansion? Do you?
Personally, yes I would. I would not want a stagnant item pool across expansions.
I'll propose a hypothetical situation to you too. Would you like to find your "uber" item the first day you hit inferno. Then you have to wait an entire year to ever get new gear again. But lets say they do what you want, and introduce no new items with each expansion. Well, stinks for you. You now have nothing to do in the game after you see the new content once because you've had all the best items since day one. Do you want that?
Did you ever experience D2? (that's not a troll question, honest curiosity) They added a ton of new items in that with the expansion, yet kept level cap and difficulty the same :-) And because you didn't reach 99 by a long shot after just one playthrough of Hell it all worked out with the extra act. Personally I'm hoping for the same. Don't really see the need to go higher than 60 really.
Yes, I did play D2, for many years actually. But the level cap was not the point that I was arguing against. The point was that NOT adding new gear in each expansion was an awful idea. D2: LoD added new items. So should the expansion of D3.
As to Rozmata, there should never be an end to the addition of new items with expansions. What you are saying is like if in real life, you will never get a smart phone because a couple of months after you buy the best one, they will come out with a new one.
Also, while my situation is improbable, it is not impossible. Yours, too, is hypothetical. While as time goes on it is more likely to drop, that does not mean that my situation is completely moot because you don't think it will happen. It WILL happen to someone on some character, whether it be their first, or there 10th. While it won't happen to everyone, it will eventually happen. The situation is still completely possible and technically just as likely to happen as yours is. An item has the same chance to drop on any kill at any time. The more you kill does not change the drop chance of the item, given your stacks of valor remains consistent.
Can you even read what I wrote! Do you want to get an item which is useless as soon as you find it as it was replaced by a new $%^£& difficult to find another item from the expansion? Do you?
Yes I read what you wrote, and pretty plainly stated I thought it was a terrible idea, based on a silly hypothetical situation and went on to say why. I'll do it again, since apparently I wasn't clear.
Why would I buy an expansion for game that is almost entirely based around itemization, if they didn't actually introduce any new itemization into the game. I don't care if the expansion comes out one day after I find some uber item, I'll just use that uber item to find me some more.
You're suggesting that they literally not add new content to an expansion, which is exactly what I would expect from an expansion.
You don't seem catching the point here which is that you will never ever own any ubber item unless you buy it as every ubber you possibly get will be instantly rubbish as soon expansion hit the market. It may be even that you won't be able to find item you want till expansion hit and all your drool will be wasted. I don't expect you to understand as it seems you can't.
No you don't understand that the game is about Items.... If they don't add items then really it leaves a lot to be desired. and so what if the ubers one day ago are no longer uber the next, it's the wonders of RANDOM properties. If I have the extact same sword as you I can still get better stats. So while yes the item will no longer be "uber" it was, and therefore he can say he'd use that *old* uber item to find the new uber items. You're not understanding the fact that with the expansion they're supposed to increase content so it gives people more incentive to stick around and play more.
Back on topic. They can easily raise the level cap. Just make everyone level cap raised in a patch then with the expansion you just get the new content. extra act, extra skills, extra items, whatever else they try to include.

Not even Death will save you from Diablo Bunny's Cuteness!
Fair point, they are indeed two different types. But I'm not really fussed about the level cap in itself, I just hope it doesn't make the endgame items from vanilla D3 obsolete compared to endgame items in an expansion.
I agree with you, I'd be pretty sad if I managed to obtain a Grandfather on my Barbarian and it became relatively useless once an expansion came out.
But if they did this particular route of raising the level cap and simply adding new items, as long as the new higher-tier items were interesting and unique, I think I could learn to live with it and put that Grandfather in my stash.
We can have new types of heroes, skills and items complementing those new skills and some old ones which didn't get enough love but I think that super rare items should stay super useful. For all WoW fans. Let's say there were times were in Vanilia you were happily grinding for your Blessed Windfurry for a year or two and then you have found it just to realize that Burning Crusade come to the market and made your Windfurry a nice looking toy.
Diablo is about luck and not about items loosing they usefulness after a while like what happens with most items in WoW except some legendaries. And not like in WoW I don't want high level ubber legendaries to be useless after an expansion unless they are going to make them drop after a 3 months time and not a year of grinding.
I don't have a quote, but I thought they mentioned at some point that the way they were making inferno, it wouldn't be difficult for them to scale it up with a new level cap if they decided to raise it. People who don't have the expansion would just have an inferno still scaled to 60, as they would likely not be able to join expansion player games anyway.
Expansion makes the past game's final obsolete, it's natural and will happen. If don't want to play it, don't. But you will naturally stay behind as you didn't bought the rest of the game.
Did you ever experience D2? (that's not a troll question, honest curiosity) They added a ton of new items in that with the expansion, yet kept level cap and difficulty the same :-) And because you didn't reach 99 by a long shot after just one playthrough of Hell it all worked out with the extra act. Wrong.
The difficulty in D2 was raised when LoD was released in order to match the items (rune words and superior/elite set/uniques). D2 classical gear was turned into obsolete crap as monster got ridicously buffed and the new gear outdo the old one by thousants %. D2 had power creep, it's the fate of all games made to be played through many years. You will never have permanent results in this kind of game, deal with it.
As to Rozmata, there should never be an end to the addition of new items with expansions. What you are saying is like if in real life, you will never get a smart phone because a couple of months after you buy the best one, they will come out with a new one.
I didn't say I don't want new items. I just don't want them to overwrite effectively previous lvl 60 ubber items. Old ubbers should still be ubber for new content as well as they took years to find.
Regarding your phones example. If you are planing to buy or just bought an older phone than the newest one (ubber one), you won't be able to experience a new content (as your phone is not ubber anymore) and if you have money to buy a new one every couple of months you do not belong to this thread. Go use RAHM and buy every new item which is released. But remember Blizzard didn't implement chat and pub well enough in D3 for you to show off your bought items to others.
Also, while my situation is improbable, it is not impossible. Yours, too, is hypothetical. While as time goes on it is more likely to drop, that does not mean that my situation is completely moot because you don't think it will happen. The more you kill does not change the drop chance of the item, given your stacks of valor remains consistent.
You should go back to school or read about chances of getting the best items by luck in Diablo games. In 3-6 months the best items may be owned by let's say 10 ppl per million. Do you still we should still be discussing the pitiful situation of those 10 lucky bastards as you propose? You have jumped from one idiotic statement to another.
For me its like this. Either they put 99 levels and make the leveling similiar to D2 or you make it like in WoW. Well they did the "WoW" way so Im cool with that. I guess there will be a reset when new expansion comes out? It's not like you can play D2 expansion with non-expansion characters right? There surely has to be a way to reset the economy and prepare it for the new expansion. Otherwise it will be a mess.
A reset to what? Our characters? I doubt it very much. Unless I misunderstand you.
I just don't think they will force us to level new characters and abandon our old ones.
No you don't understand that the game is about Items.... If they don't add items then really it leaves a lot to be desired. and so what if the ubers one day ago are no longer uber the next, it's the wonders of RANDOM properties. If I have the extact same sword as you I can still get better stats. I'm talking about ubber items here ppl. 1 per 1 000 000! Not some good lvl 60 rares. I'm talking about ubber stuff. They can increase amount of items and all but ubbers should still stay ubbers as ubbers means that some of us will grind for them for 3 years if needed just to wield them proudly as they look cool and are extremely powerful and difficult to find. They should not stop to be ubber because new expansion hit the market.
I hope the level cap will get raised to 99 eventually and just as much time consuming to get there as D2. I can wish, right?
If you wear 5 ubbers on you I will know you put a lot of time in game (wish blizz give us a way to know if item was found or bought). But if I see you in your ubbers when they are rubbish cause new expansions just hit the market I won't give a $%^&. Just another reason now to keep ubbers ubbers in D3.
I don't want Blizzard ever introduce lvl higher than 60. I want all lvl 60 legendary and set items to stay difficult to find and for them to be wanted forever and ever and not to be useless crap as soon they introduce new expansion with lvl 65 cap or smth. Expansions should be like in old D2, just a content and new items 60 additions where new items should be different but not superior to other items already in the game. They should just make all the best legendaries to be very difficult to get (like if you play for a year you should find one, any one not necessarily a weapon).
Do anybody know about blizzard plans regarding above for current Diablo? If you have some blue posts it would be great.
If they don't make new levels and gear then the same old gear will flood the market, and inflation will go WILD.

One is never hurt by being given additional choices, only by taking them away. A QUADRILLION MAGIC FIND is worthless if you can't kill shit!
If they raise the level cap, they have to add a new difficulty level. They can't raise inferno in case people don't get the expansion. So I'm fairly sure they'll never raise the cap.
No they won't. Inferno is just all the content, with every monster 1 level above you. It would be very easy to keep Normal, nightmare, hell, inferno. If you buy the exp and level to (let's say 70) every time you go into inferno, the monsters level would be 71. If you're still level 60, then they would be 61. They don't need a new difficulty mode, because that's what the new content in the expansion pack will be.

This is to cryptic in content of this thread. Ubbers may still stay ubbers. But this make me worry slightly. This should be asked on blizzard forums.

This is just one mistake I don't want them to repeat from D2. I don't mind items which you find every 100k drops but those supper ubber which drops once per million or less should always stay ubber, expansion or not.
But I don't suppose such an item ever dropped for you in vanilla D2 close to LoD expansion or you wouldn't be so enthusiastic dealing with IT.

True, but pointless exercise. This way they may just give all those who want lvl 99 now or even 999. Let's keep this thread realistic and not smar ass, pls.
No point to talk more about it. Let's w8 for first expansion and see how excited you are loosing your $500 item go worthless when expansion hit the market (as you will never find it in time before that time).

I'm having a difficult time figuring out just what the heck you're talking about. I don't see him as being a smart ass at all, what he's saying is both sensible and realistic. As an example, if they were to raise the level cap to 70 in Diablo III.2, logic dictates that Inferno difficulty for those with the expansion would have monster levels of 71, just as we know that Inferno for Classic Diablo III consists of monsters of level 61.
They just add the new content for those who own the expansion and make it inaccessible to those who do not own the expansion. You will also be unable to level past 60 if you do not own the expansion. These people's Inferno difficulty will consist of the whole game, minus whatever content is released with the expansion, containing monster levels of 61.
They just have to separate those who own the expansion and those who do not, this isn't a stretch of logic by any sense.
