Wow...skill runes really are just going to unlock as you level...lame.
Agreed, I liked the random drop system. This is why I shouldn't follow a games development, get so used to the idea of how something will work only to have it changed later down the road :/, the price you have to pay I guess.
I also agree that the dropped system is extremley nice but maybe now there is base runes and maybe there is drops for the jeweler that would upgrade the runes that we have. I can only hope since I do like the fact that there was another thing to work for to make your chr the best. If they just cut out the drops completley i will be one sad panda.
The question is, why are they using random rune drawings instead of colors now. Sure, we'll easily learn which is which, but it kinda of doesn't fit the "let's make it easy for new people" concept. This surprises me a bit.

I'm pretty sure those are not 5 levels, but 5 button states. One would be for an unavailable rune, one for a mouse-over state, one for an active, one for a mouse-over AND active... Maybe not exactly those states but you get it.
The question is, why are they using random rune drawings instead of colors now. Sure, we'll easy learn which is which, but it kinda of doesn't fit the "let's make it easy for new people" concept. This surprised me a bit.
Maybe because at some point it became a colorful rainbow of puppies and ponies? After all they did remove the scroll of companion because it "didn't fit with its cuteness". Just saying. This new system looks mighty nice.
I will go out on a limb here and speculate that we won't have rune levels. We will have modifiers on gear to improve the effect on the runes alá +skills from D2.
That's what the reddit leak was saying all along. So that guy wasnt trolling and actually has inside info.

what if you never find the rune you want? wouldn't that suck? I like the new system because i don't have to hope lady luck finds me that one rune i want.
This new Rune System - I wonder why they didn't just stick with the colours like Crimson, Indigo, etc? Diablo 3 is being designed in such a way that it'll be newbie-friendly while providing even more depth for non-casual gamers, so wouldn't making the runes look like this be less-intuitive?
It's unlikely that they're still going to be named after colours, and I kinda liked the idea that a newcomer could remember the names and effects of Runes in the previous system. If they give these new runes similar names to D2's ones like 'Zod' or 'Sur', then it's going to take them a while to remember which rune does what, or even what the name of the rune IS.
That Elective Mode loadscreen tip is the strongest indication so far that the reddit stuff might be true. I cant see them making a UI setting only for the potion button.
But got I hope it isn't true.
The rune screens aren't very indicative, as there are a million different ways they could make runes non-items, and people have predicted such a change for a long time now.
I'm very worried to how this new runestone system will work. I'm really hoping it's nothing too far from the old idea they had created. I liked the idea they had already. Only time will tell though. Hopefully soon....

I keep searching, or obtain it by other means -- trading or the AH. No. So you like that runes are automatically granted to you as extensions to skills you already have (which is really not much different from any other skill system).

Let's wait and see. I'm guessing the people who started those rummors also datamined the patch files and deducted these possible changes with the data they saw. It might be close to what they say but might be something else completely.
