I was thinking after you reach level 30 you have unlocked all skills and abilities, so your only drive force to level is to get better gear. What blizzard add a 4th passive slot when you reached max level, not level 60 but max level so it the level cap ever changes you will still need to level to max again to get the 4th passive. I think this addition would not change the balance that much and keep players level and using the RMAH a lot longer.
I don't think it is necessary, Though it is not a terrible idea. In my opinion if the cap is raised in the future with expansions the 4th passive would still stay at 60, I feel like it wouldn't be right to move it.
I think after beating Inferno you can go into kick-ass difficulty, where every enemy is only 75% their normal size and they are all--even bosses--level 1. They don't offer experience or items.
Well, that would be one incentive, I guess. There's definitively a huge problem after 30 when it comes to rewards from leveling up, in fact I consider that problem big enough to try and find something to fix it.
A passive at 60 is a bit radical. It doesn't make the steps toward it more satisfying, but at least gives you another point to be 60. I think between 30 to 60 would be the ideal point for some stat customization options beyond gear. But heh, not going to happen.
The whole reason that everything is unlocked at level 30 is that you should finish normal / be into nightmare by that time. They are doing this because the majority of people who will buy and play D3 probably won't finish nightmare (like the 90% that never did in D2). This is so people can experience the whole story, and unlock every skill and passive without feeling like they HAVE to get to level 60 to do those things.
Max level still has the biggest perk: Inferno. The hardest part of the game, the best bragging rights, and drops the best loot. Another good example of how D3 can balance casual and HC =)
I think they should not let us see all skill runes till lvl 60. So these more tactical ones should be available on higher levels. Another option is to make them work slightly different depending on their level.
Also Blizz may add new skill runes after game is released. These skill runes could for example be only found on nightmare and higher difficulties. It would be good as new skill runes are basically new skills.
I just couldn't stand the fact that you looked like a bum again. Biggest turnoff ever! It's a good thing this will not be the case in D3.
What do you mean looked like a bum again? You didn't loose your gear from normal as you proceeded into nightmare difficulty. Monsters just got harder and you lost some resistances.
Well your items from normal quickly weren't worth that much anymore and in nightmare you get the nightmare version of those act 1 items. Those make you look like a bum again. It was a bit irritating having to save decky again and stuff.
Heh, look like a bum. That's a funny way to state it, but yes, I hated that as well. In D2 early nightmare and hell always meant better items cause you to have a start of the game appearance, and that was idiotic to say the least. I'm so glad the progression in D3 will at least be on going, not a backtrack process between difficulties.
I guess blizzard thinks the gear and the dificulty challenge to be enought to get people to other dificulties. Still we have the rune question, since i guess the best ones will drop in the harder places in harder dificulties.
Its just me but I think they'll tweak the best runes so that most can only be bought using the RMAH (extreme small droprate).Anyhow I don't care about achievements this isn't xbox, ps or wii it should be an ARPG. May be just me but looking at 30 levels without sorry customization save for gear luck is not my idea of progression. Yeah Diablo has always been a loot first game but I just played through it with different builds and sorry but auto-stats doesn't do the same thing for me. I want to custom them the way I prefer not a predefined one.As it stands now you are pretty much done after with level 30 so whats the point of playing till inferno? If they would have made level 99 with tons of customization despite all the gear and runes yeah that would have been awesome.
Really? Did you play D2? At level 30 you would have any skill unlocked you wanted so you were "pretty much done" so the only change after that was the skills getting more powerful. If you considered after 30 just putting 5 points into vitality customization, I don't know what you want out of D3.
Edit: Also nobody's stopping you from restricting yourself to certain skill "builds" and playing the game through more than once on each character class.

I think the problem with this is, not all people who'll play D3 will be cut out to play untill the end. Most of the player base will be casuals, especially if you look at the D2 figures. That's where the problem comes in, you will feel forced to play all the way through, since there will always be that gap in your character that you'll feel is missing.
The fact that your character will be fully unlocked at the end of normal is a good choice. The most players who'll go challenge themselves all the way through hell and into inferno will be the type of players who like the grind sort of gamepley, who like doing the same content over just to get the best possible types of gear and runes. It fits that player base perfectly.
Higher level beyond means better runes (skill progression), and better gear (with the right affixes can completely change your gameplay). Nightmare and up is supposed to be about honing your skill with your full skillset. I'd be pretty pissed if I had to wait till Hell to get a certain skill I liked for my build but someone else's favorite build was finished at like 28.
Like I said if they feel forced then thats their own fault. Heck D2 had 99 levels and tons of customization but I never felt forced to do something. Maybe thats the difference between players and just entertainment junkies coming over from Blizzards first MMORPG...
Yes, but the skill trees in D2 ended at level 30. After that you have everything 'unlocked' just like in D3. There is a pretty big difference between accessing new skills and changing those you already ave.
If the D2 customization you're referring to is items, gems, charms, runes and atrribute/skill points, well in D3 we now have items, crafting, runes and gems (both of the last two acting as attribute/skill customization). If Blizzard left the mystic in game then we'd also have enchanting...
Both games still have later game options to craft your character the way you want him/her to be, but unlocking skill slots is not it and that's best left for early game when you're still learning to use your character, not late game when the fine tuning starts.

I agree. By nightmare I'd love to have everything unlocked so I can spend the rest of nightmare / hell figuring out exactly what build I like. Then when inferno comes I've got my playstyle down. Plus it's a good decision on Blizzards part for new players; Most won't beat nightmare, but at the end of normal they will have seen the whole story / have every skill and passive unlocked. Now of course they won't have the highest level runes, or their artisans maxed, or any gems that they have upgraded, or inferno unlocked, but those are rewards for hitting level 60.
