I thought of a possible tweak on loot/drops that I wanted to run by everyone. In response to a Bashiok post:

There is also currently no loot management in place in Diablo III. If you were player two and you wanted that legendary bow, you would need to talk with that player one and hope that they are willing to trade it to you for either a price or even for free if you are lucky : )
But say Player 1 is more advanced and wealthy than Player 2 and has no need to even bother picking up the "legendary bow." Unless P1 spoke up out of the goodness of his heart, P2 would never even know about the "legendary bow" that dropped. P1 doesn't need the item, and doesn't care if P2 needs it (let's face it, not everyone will care), so the item goes to waste and disappears into the void of forgotten items with my old nerf guns and batman action figures.
Could there be some sort of in-game message that is displayed for everyone in the chat pane when Legendary/Uniques and Set Items drop: "A mysterious Legendary Bow has been uncovered.
As long as you don't specify who found it, there won't be a concern of that player getting harrassed by some eager beaver amateur who wants the item. It just gives the opportunity for people to say "oooh who got the Pork Sword?!"
I'm no game designer, and I trust the D3 dev team, but I think that this would generate net positive player interaction and cooperation. It also would wipe away the constant feeling that that shiny new item that you really need right now just dropped for someone else, but you'll never know.
I think that if you include a feature like that, there would be NO downside to the new loot system. Anyone else feel strongly about this?
If you're not intersted in picking up unidentified legendary items, then I think Diablo might not be the game for you. Pretty much the entire point of the game is to collect loot, so at least the player will inspect an item before deciding if it is valuable or not for him or his companion.
I read another thread like this trying to describe a system where it mentions in chat (toggle-able) if something high end drops. Personally I wouldn't hate the system, but i think what is in place is good enough, at least for me. If the person doesn't want the item and is kind hearted, they can just pick it up and drop it again for you or anyone. But if the person doesn't care if you need it, having this system in place only makes it worse; Now you KNOW it dropped, and can't get to it lol.
If you want to share loot the best option probably is to play with people you know, no matter what Blizzard did.
Are you really better off knowing that a legendary bow dropped for another partymember, if that party member doesn't want to trade/give it anyway. Sounds like it could lead to frustration knowing that other guy got exactly what you wanted (With RMAH such a scenario is probably not unlikely to happen after all).
On the other hand it would indeed be nice with a setting to show what everyone looted, not specifically for trading/giving items, but just for the extra information.
Or maybe a button beside the chat which tells everyone the last few items you looted. Which would make it more voluntary to share the info.

Not necessarily true. I'll put it in D2 terms (assuming the logic still stands). There were 3 tiers of items within EACH class of rarity. Normal, Exceptional, and Elite. What if a "unique" exceptional item drops that would be a godsend for a lower level player, but the guy who gets the drop is beyond that and only needs "elite" items. Please correct me if the system is no longer like that.
But if the person doesn't care if you need it, having this system in place only makes it worse; Now you KNOW it dropped, and can't get to it lol.
Touche, salesman. Although I think most people are lazy by nature, not outright dicks. I reckon even if a guy ignores a drop, usually he's willing to grab it for someone else if they ask. Of course every once and awhile you got the lone wolf in your game who was there for the XP and MF bonus of multiplayer, but wanted nothing to do with other humans.
Overall it's not the end of the world. I just think that it could add a bit of comradery, help people have greater access to useful items that may otherwise be ignored, and give you a sense of comfort in that if a "Windforce" drops, you'll know hah.
Implement a keybind that you hold and click on the item that you don't care for. This would release the item from only being seen by you and become visible to other party members.
what if there is only 2 people? then you already know who got the item and that person gets harrassed ?
Honestly, is this really such a big deal? put the person on /ignore and no harm was done. I swear sometimes gamers expect too much coddling. Not you, Valkray, i understand where you're coming from and that is the first thing blizzard would say, but i wish they'd let some slightly imperfect features in like that when the advantages so outweigh the disadvantages.
Seriously? who gives a crap about 2 player item management. If the other person has something they think you want or you know them, they will probably speak up (otherwise you got a dic for a friend). Other than that use the auction house then you can find all of the items you so desperatly need. End of story.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Blizzard used to care about releasing Diablo III, then they all took an arrow in the knee...
