AHhhh!! I feel like we're SO close. I really hope it'll be done before Q2.. i'd be very pleased with an end of Q1 release. The game is pretty enjoyable in it's current state. =)
The next presser will be the investor conference call in Early Feb...which is where we will get the release date unless it is before then. Can't imagine they will release the 'release date' after the conference call because that is bad news for investors. Bad news is not what they need because the stock price has already taken a significant hit from the last quarter melt down. So if its delayed from the first quarter projection (which was the last conference call in Nov.) its bad.

Sometimes you don't always know where you stand... until you know that you won't run away.
With all that Blizz has put us thru, starting from the original announcement up until all the recent delays, I think when they know for sure, they will give us a release date.
Once said date is told to us, Im pretty confident that it will 100% be released on that date and no further delays will occur.
At this point, even Blizz knows what we as fans have had to endure, and they dont wanna push us any further with more bad news.
Thats why they are waiting so long to announce it .. they need to be 100% sure before opening their mouths.
Second, their betas are usually the entire game, so this is a demo at best, and very cut down from their usual handle on things.
Actually only wow has betas like that (Referring to blizzard).. SC2 had no single player, d2 was also not more than act 1. So I wouldnt take the content of it as meaning of anything, other than what they already said about why they wanted a beta that is.
Anyway just pointing out that one part is all
The company that developed Diablo II is virtually not the company that Blizzard is now. I don't think anyone that worked on the original two Diablos is still working there.
Secondly, the WoW betas have comprised 4 out of their last 5 releases, with Starcraft 2 being the only exception to my beta statement, and they only left out the single player campaign to not spoil story, the rest of the game's mechanics were present. That can't be said of Diablo III's "beta". And technically a beta/alpha build is the entire game, so this is indeed just a demo.
When Max Schaefer and Bill Roper left Blizzard awhile ago, they took alot of Their team with them, but most of them went to the main studios when they expanded to that huge building of thiers, they are all give or take 1-2 whom may have been fired or quit, working on Diablo 3, so yes, there are some of the orginals still working on the Diablo franchise...just not the main ones like Max Schaefer or Bill Roper
Secondly, this is a beta through and through, if you played any more of the beta after the Skeleton King, it would be a major story spoiler that they just don't want getting leaked to the public just yet, although they are doing a good job of that themselves with a various accidents like the cinematic spoiler that got taken down, the only thing not added into the beta yet were high level skills and runes, but now that the rune system is near completion, they will probably impliment low level runes for beta players to try out, and near beta end they will probably increase everyone to max level and let them test out all the new skills.
I think this forum needs an additional forum section called "D3 Release Speculations and ASSumptions" - emphasis on the ASS part.
People make statements about the game's release like it's fact, or they work for Blizzard, when it's all just speculation/guesses and asshattery. We all want the game but jeez, if news got out of someone on the Blizzard dev team getting the flu, there would be another thread topic pop up that the game is delayed because of the common cold. It's becoming a running (for far too long here) joke that's no longer funny.

If only facts were discussed, this website (and any other like it) would be dead.

I'm counting on a June release. Not trolling. At least then I can hope for an awesome Diablo 3 by giving the devs to throw together another good idea or two with what they have now and make a solid game. I don't want Diablo 3 to be a nice placeholder for an expansion that's supposed to be the real deal.
Also, hey! Be excited for a june release! We all could have a 12 year celebration since D2's release and a 15 year one from D1. Okay, maybe that was trolling.

What's stopping them from really making that segment super awesome? You know, like allowing for harder difficulties during that segment, or adding more levels/abilities for testiing? Maybe some beta only items, content, encounters? A single PvP arena with a nice dislcaimer pop up at first load up stating it's just for fun content and that lv 1-13 isn't final content of serious business? You know, something fun and different to spice things up?
And if your answer to that first question is "They are lazy," I don't want to hear it!

Some people tell me I'm going to hell. I just let them know that I've already packed my bags!
I am willing to bet that Blizzard wants this game out on the market more than we do. From the book singing video the first question asked to Chris was release date. You could see his face like OMFG not again. lol They diffinately want to move on to the next project.
